Which is VERY dangerous!! :D ha ha...

Seriously tho.. I have been doing the regular middle of the winter daydreaming about what I want to do (insert paint) on summer break. I did quite a bit of painting last summer but I think I jumped too far into the neutral colors. I painted my LR turned billards room a very light gray called silver service. It's a nice color but maybe it's too cool? I have a pool table in there which is black with turquoise felt and it's the first room you enter from the front door. It also looks into the kitchen which has one dark chocolate wall and the rest are a avacado color. I will try and post pictures of this. I sort of like it but I'm not in LOVE with it. I wonder if my issue with it is because the front room is a cool color and the kitchen runs more to the warm?
I don't think I want the same color in both rooms but maybe I do? What about a darker grey color and then the one big wall in the kitchen, red? My cabinets are white with black knobs and the appliances are black

My plan is to get rid of the china cabinet and kitchen table. They are from the 60's and really not that super and they are more of an orangy color wood. OR could I paint them? I have a white shelf thingy (its huge, sits on the floor) I found that I can put on the big wall and put my fiesta in. AND my sister is giving me her HUGE jelly cupboard as well. what about leave the grey and then paint the kitchen in a pale yellow? I have lots of red accents, how would that work? OR...here's another thought. Paint the brown wall the green color like the rest of the room and put a darker warmer grey in the front room?

I'm just not sure what I want to do! I won't start painting until most likely June so you wouldnt think I would be in crisis mode would you?

See... it IS dangerous when I think. LOL..ok I'm going to try and take some pictures... hopefully this works ... Tell me what you all think! BTW, ignore the doggie bones under the pool table and the weird smoky thing too... I just blew out a candle  Ignore the messies too! I cleaned on Saturday, but you know that was 2 whole days ago!

Hi! Pictures-yah! I like the way the color appear now...it's good think about it though if you are going to change- did you say June for painting?

I think if you gave the table and china cabinet a new paint job- they would look totally different. There are plenty of gals on this board that have done so...

Very nice pics!

I would definitely paint the table, chairs and china cabinet! It will give them a totally different look.

Hey Never,
I typed you a really "inspired" ( LOL) post last night and I guess I forgot to click submit....duh :o.
I love the green very much. Why not unify everything with the green. The billards room would look wonderful green. The shade is perfect.
If it wouldn' hurt your feelings to paint your dining set then I think it would look great. You could add a black dining set to your green and white and it would look so great. Here was my inspiration last night...LOL....put some green and white toile in the back of the china hutch to showcase your dishes. THEN mail me the head vase on the bottom shelf.:p

How hard is it to paint the table/chairs and china cabinet? I have painted many things, just not furniture like this. Do you sand and use a primer? what about a top coat?

I was thinking about this last night ( ya know instead of sleeping ) Maybe I could paint the front room, kitchen, FAMILY room and office area in a very soft yellow. warm but soft. I have sage greeny furniture in the family room. would that look silly? However, I LOVE the idea of the toile in the cabinet... course I could get black and white toile too. I really kind of like yellow with black and red accents. Ha Ha..thank goodness I have a few months to decide. :D

Now sagey green and yellow would be so pretty. Now wait and don't paint yur furniture yet, it may be perfect with the yellow walls. It is a huge job and you may not need to do it.:D
Yep black and white toile would look so good in your cabinet. You may find wall paper toile. Now you have me wanting to paint inside;)

I like the kitchen/dining room color but would do something with the furniture too. I was thinking white but black would be good too. Or even a chocolate brown. As for the family room, it just looks cold in there. Maybe the grey is too light? Or maybe you need a warm toned grey since the pool table would be warm tone.

What kind of feel are you going for in the family room? With yellow it would remind me of a tropical room. You could really go all out with color if you went that route. :)

I think you're trying to bridge too many gaps in the room with the billiard table.

I'm assuming that the table can't be moved to another room, so the key is to work with the immovable objects. You have two immovable objects: the billiard table and the carpet. Unfortunately, the two aren't harmonious in color; one is warm and the other is cool. You'll have to pick one color tone.

I'd pick the warm tone of the carpet. Your window treatments are warm too. Grab a color wheel from the paint store. Sit on the floor and find the color of the carpet. Once that color has been determined, pick a color one or two shade lighter on the color wheel. That color should be your new wall color.

Next, you want to make the blue and black of the billiard table look like it's not an accident. Find artwork with blue in it and use a black frame. Add little bits of brown, black and blue all around your room.

I did something similar in a condo that I staged. The owner wouldn't replace the turquoise carpet and he had black slate around the fireplace. I bet these colors would be nice in your house too.

Someone here at work mentioned soaking fabric in starch and then using it like wallpaper in the cabinet. comes right off too when you get tired of it. so that might be a thought. i have managed to corrupt many people today while we discuss my plans ! lol...I'm sure we have TONS of work we could be doing :D

I could do something fun like maybe a red toile in the china cabinet...hmmm...

what do you think of all that yellow? Will it be too much? all those rooms open into each other.

Lisa S

I think yellow would be really pretty. I love the shape of the table and cabinet. All the details will stand out when they're painted.

Ok..what do you guys think of this... Oh and just so you know, the carpet in the front room will be leaving soon( i hope) to a dark wood, as well as the kitchen floor.

front room..... pale soft yellow ~~ this is the room with the pool table . I have some cool prints in black frames.

kitche: same yellow. Try the table and hutch without paint first, OR paint it black. use the black and red accents

family room (no pictures of that one yet) I have sage green furniture in there. same yellow color.

office, can't really see it but right now its brown. same yellow color as the rest. the shelving in there is right now white but I thought I might do something different, red? I dont know yet. I will take pics....

I'm glad you are reconsidering painting the table and hutch. I did mine and am very happy with the results.
Heres a blog of a gal that painted hers black and also did the fabric/starch thing. Scroll down just a bit to find it.
http://www.gritsglamour.blogspot.com/

I also posted a pic of my hutch, table, chairs and small pantry I painted black. Yup I was on a roll. Didn't even prime just sanded a bit and painted with a satin black paint from Behr. I did prime the pantry because it was cheap pressed wood and had paint on it already.

You did a beautiful job! Did you paint the table top too? I'd like to get a better look at that.

How did you manage to find fabric to match your plates?! Good job!

Lisa If your talking about my tabletop yes I did paint it and used rub on decals then distressed it a bit. Heres a closer view. I'm not artistic in the least so any shorthand way is my way :)

Thank you so much Lisa.
You should of seen DH's face when I did this.
He has a fit everytime I have a paint brush near wood! He brought up the point "what if you grow tired of it", well duh, you sand it off and do something new.

so the black & turquoise pool table will look ok with yellow? I had yellow in the kitchen many years ago and I really liked it. There is no window in there so it helps to brighten it up a bit.

I want to start NOW :D LOL.... patience not really my thing....

Lisa S
02-03-2009, 11:52 AM
Patience isn't my thing either! I think a very soft, buttery yellow would look nice.

Annie...THATS IT! THAT is EXACTLY what I'm thinking! Ok, so is that more of a cottagy? primative? I have a few of those black trays too and some of those black mexican wooden plates. Oh I want to start today.... :D

Annie...you just sanded and then painted? how many coats did you have to do? Was it just a plain black color?

Neverfinished I can feel your excitement to get started, a girl after my own heart.:D

For the hutch I just lightly sanded, tacked off the dust and applied two coats of black satin Behr paint(can't remember the color off hand). I wanted to be able to sand off the edges and see some wood come thru. It will transform your hutch and table and breathe new life into it. I did it in a day and didn't even move the hutch, just emptied the inside top shelves and started painting....I have the impatient gene too. Can't wait to see the finished results.

So you'll be passing thru my town on the way to Billings this weekend? :p I love the idea of painting the hutch and so forth the black. I wish I had something to paint!!!

Well ok, I've decided to paint my blanket chest I've had since high school. Good idea Mom but really a cheap finish on it. I haven't brought it up to anyone yet that I plan to paint it. Sort of anxious about doing it since I don't know if my mom would be upset I painted it but really girls the poor thing is scratched up to death and no amount of oil or wax has brought it back.

By the way Neverfinished, what did you end up donig with that area between the house and the garage. Last time we all talked to you there was still plans in place and decisions to be made. Yes it has been that long!

chy..nope not driving thru your town this weekend. I have to do crowd control at bb games this weeked! Yippee!

I'm very excited to start my projects..lol..... But most if not all will have to wait at least till it warms up enough to open some windows AND I have more than a saturday...

Patio... well.. I didn't really get a lot done out there. We decided to enclose it to make it more of a 3 season thing. that is hubbys project this spring. I at least want to spray paint the furniture out there. I have a wicker set that is in serious need of paint and then I plan on painting the metal lawn chairs on the front porch. haven't quite decided on colors. I did pick up some great cushions on a FANTASTIC sale at pier one that are lime green and turquoise flowers. so.... I'm still trying to figure out the color for the wicker and the metal chairs. I plan on recovering the old cushions on the front porch to go with whatever color I choose to paint.
ha ha...I have TONS of projects don't I??? :D Oh well, what's summer break for !!!

How about a chocolate brown spray paint? If I remember correctly your house is painted in browns isn't it? I think the dark brown would be a nice foil to the bright color yet not black which could get really HOT in the sun. :p

Oooh Neverfinished!!! I found the perfect way to paint your cabinet. Leaf through a copy of Better Homes and Gardens "Creative Home". On page 34 is almost an exact replica of your hutch. They painted it a creamy ivory with blue accents. They painted the back of the hutch blue and stenciled a blossom pattern in cream on top of the blue. Little glass knobs topped it all off.

OHHHHHHHHHHH I bought the magazine and now I"M READY to get started...lol.... That china cabinet is almost exactly like the one I have! They took a door off the bottom part and put baskets there too! I never thought of that! So here's my idea NOW... (subject to change of course :D)

PAINT my dining room set, whole thing, china cabinet and table/chairs bright WHITE! Not sure about the back of the china cabinet yet, fabric? just paint? wallpaper? Take off the two doors on the bottom and get 4 baskets (one for each shelf) in a bright color..lime green, pink, red? Whadaya think?

That sounds beautiful! I looked for that magazine tonight while at Target and couldn't locate it :(.

Here's some more inspiration for you. I found another blog where a gal painted her kitchen table white with blue stripes and added some flowers, so cute! I'll post the link.

I've got to find me some furniture to paint now!

I'm glad you found it! It IS just like yours, isn't it? I loved the baskets on the bottom too.

Get started, girl ~ I can't wait to see the pictures.

Annie...I saved that blog so I can go and look at everythng! Wow, how cool does that table look~

Lisa... Thanks for letting me know about the mag! I'm excited to get started...lol...

HOWEVER...what do you all think about painting the cabinet AND table/chairs black instead of white? I want to do the yellow paint and I really really LOVE the look of black with the yellow and red... maybe throw in a rooster or two? BUT if I do the black, what color would I do the inside of the cabinet to show off the fiesta?

Lisa S
02-07-2009, 08:12 AM
What color is your Fiestaware? Is it all different? Yellow might be nice.

02-07-2009, 12:12 PM
Hi Lisa... yup, it's all different colors.

annielinz
02-07-2009, 06:25 PM
I think if you go in the black direction then paint the whole hutch black; including the back, then the fiestaware will stand out and your eye will be drawn to it.

Whole thing black! gotcha!!!

chyna
02-10-2009, 07:13 AM
I'm going against the flow here and saying that I would paint the interior a different color or you'll have a big black hole with dots of color. How about a creamy white (antique white?) for the shelves and back. This would be a nice foil for the dishes. :)

annielinz
02-15-2009, 06:58 PM
Neverfinished, if you're still undecided about what color to go with, you could get some foam board cut to size to fit in the back of your hutch and try out different colors to see which sets off the dishes best.
