This is my glider. I am bad that I never finished it. Can someone guide me in the best way to clean it up and finish it so that it looks nice.

I am thinking power wash it first, then either staining it or painting it. I want it to be painted white, or whitewashed, or something like that. Not sure the best way to do it though. I would think that trying to spray paint it would be hard to get to all the spots, and that staining would work better. Is there a white stain available. Thanks for your help.

My babies are Holly on the left and Jackie on the right. They have been trying to "catch" the baby rabbit that appears inside the fence throughout the day. The rabbit lives under the shed.

I wouldn't touch it. It looks great as is!

Your doggies are adorable!
But - Ohhhhhh, noooooooo! Marie - please don't let them catch the baby rabbit!
They don't know any better - it's in their "make up" to chase, and the poor baby bunny is too young to realize the danger. I'm such an animal lover and don't like to see any animals hurt or killed.

Now, getting to your glider - do you think it might be better to just stain it the wood color of your choice and coat it with outdoor polyurethane? I'm thinking that if the doggies normally go up there, and sometimes they have muddy feet...well, you get my drift - the white will be hard to keep clean.

I have never used a power washer but have heard that some of them are pretty powerful (took shingles off my friend's house!), so you might want to be cautious. I think I'd use Murphy spray wood soap, let it dry, and then stain/poly it.

Thank you. good suggestions. And don't worry, I won't let my dogs get the bunny. Jackie, the Jack Russel, last year a bunny was eating lunch, broccoli, in Dave's garden, and Austin took Jackie's collar off so the tags wouldn't jingle and scare the rabbit and opened the door and let her out, and well, I won't finisih the story. I was so MAD at him for that and told him to never do it again. As gentle a dog as she is, I could not believe what a good hunting dog she could be. I love the wildlife too.

Jack Russells are bred to hunt. It is instinctual and they don't know any better. My chi's are the same way. I spend half my life saving the baby birds and lizards in our yard. Luckily no bunnies, or they would have them in a heartbeat. I never thought about the muddy paws. In that case, I think that wood color would probably be the best choice also:)

Two of our goldens are killers too. They prefer moles and voles though. No bunnies would dare enter our yard!

It's not exactly a glider, it's a swing...but I thought I'd share a photo of it with you. (I bought it with my saved up Discover CashBack $) My son put it together yesterday. :)

It's made of cedar, which they said withstands the weather...but I'm still not sure if I should spray it with some outdoor preservative.

I look forward to having my tea and reading the Sunday paper out there tomorrow! ;)

Chapter Two ~ I love this! What a perfect way to spend a day on your swing with a good "read" and ice tea! Hope the weather is good today so you may enjoy!

Thanks, Gigi! It was 46 degrees and windy when I got up, so my Mother's Day plan for sitting on the swing will have to wait 'til later today. ;)

I think I got such a bargain on the swing...it was $129 in a store that's part of a chain. I saw a very similar swing online for $275!

Cool weather here too ~ and soooo windy too! Your swing looks much more expensive than even the 275 price---- so nice!

Mac I kinda think it is cool the color it is . You could dilute some paint and make a whitewash of sorts. My neighbor leaves her things chipping and her stuff looks great.
Two, your swing was STEAL. You can surely enjoy that swing thinking the price was perfect and look how great it looks.

Thanks for all of your nice words about the swing - I'm really happy with it.

Of course, it's again 46 degrees, tonight, and we've got a frost alert until Tuesday. I'll be swinging out there with my winter coat on! :o

I've always thought the best place for a glider or porch swing would be inside the house where you could enjoy it in all kinds of weather. Here in the Pacific Northwest, it's too cold to sit outside (especially in the morning) nine to ten months out of the year, so an indoor swing would be ideal. I hope you get a chance to enjoy yours soon.

I agree. And you have even less outdoor time than we do here, in the Northeast. In fact, when I asked my son to assemble the swing for me, I said I only have from May 'til maybe a little time in early October to enjoy it! But my house is small and there's no room in the tiny enclosed foyer. I have only a small chair and a table and some knickknacks out there.

I'll just enjoy it when I can enjoy it, and when I can't...I'll look forward to the time I can, again! ;)
Some things are more appreciated for just that reason - you can't do them all the time.

I have two swings and one glider and I love them. It is so peaceful to sit outside and rock. The doggies love it also:D

Lucky girl! Now all I need is a doggy...;) My cats are exclusively indoors.
