I don't know if anyone is interested in a low-cost alternative to replacing their kitchen or bathroom countertops, but last summer we tried Giani's paint kit and love it. It's held up perfectly, and most who see it can't believe it's paint and not stone. I'm not affiliated with the company, and here's their web site:

We had ugly green formica in our kitchen and wanted a light stone look. We saved so much money that we were able to afford a nice new sink. Here are some before and after pictures.

Bungalove, I just noticed this thread~wanted to say that your countertops look great! I've heard of this product before, but have never known anyone that used it.

Nice. How is it doing durability wise?

It's doing great and it's been almost a year since we applied it. The clear topcoat is the same kind of thing used on car paint jobs, I believe. Very tough. The only ding in it came on a 90 degree edge when DH (dear husband or d*** husband, depending on my mood) hit it when he was moving a piece of furniture. Took just a minute to touch up.
Another thing I like is that if we decide to change the color -- sometimes I crazily consider mostly black -- it will cost $50 and not thousands.

Has anyone tried that countertop paint from Lowes? I'm dying to try it but a garage roof has now raised it's ugly head. I can only tackle so many projects at once. :D

I'm looking for paint to paint the bookshelves at school. They're some kind of hideous rust-orange laminate from the late 60s, and I hate them. Regular paint doesn't stick well to them. I'm probably not going to do the surface of the shelves that the books sit on, but the edge of each shelf and the sides of the shelves would look much better if I could paint them. I thought about looking at that countertop paint from Lowe's, but I imagine it's probably pretty expensive to try to use throughout a library (not to mention how long it would take). Middle school kids are rough on things, as I'm sure you know, and are destructive even when they don't mean to be, so I need something very, very sturdy. Any suggestions?

I know someone who spray painted a whole set of office storage furniture that was made out of the fake wood stuff, like ready to assemble furniture is made out of, flakeboard. They lightly sanded the pieces then spray painted them. The pieces looked very nice when completed.
