My husband built beautiful window boxes for the back of the house. They looked beautiful all summer, but now they're empty. Does anyone have a suggestion for February plantings? It still freezes here most nights.

Lisa I can't remember what part of the country you are in. Maybe you could fill up the boxes with pinecones and some branches for some interest till the weather warms up a bit.

I'm in Oregon and have a plethora of sticks and pine cones. Good idea!

Lisa great!. Also not sure how they handle a freeze but I planted some decorative kale/cabbage and they have survived some frost and they look great in window boxes.

Around here, they are already selling those little daffodils in pots at the grocery store....they are usually pretty cheap, about $3 or so. Maybe some of those would survive since its getting fairly close to daffodil season anyways?

Also, primroses would look lovely....and I think they start selling them in February.

Anne I LOVE your idea pinecones and branches- and tuck some red berries in there---it would be so cute.

Nikki ~ I do love primroses. Maybe moss, primroses and pinecones.

How about some wooden flowers or something like that?

Maybe attach some Valentines to sticks and weatherproof them w/ Krylon to create a Valentine Garden?

Or, maybe create Fairy Gardens in the window boxes?

Very cute ideas! Can you all come over in about a half an hour? Memmy is bringing pound cake.

I have tons of red berries I could bring. If we don't use them in your window box, perhaps we could make some wine to go with Memmey's pound cake...

I saw a winter window box on Rebecca's Garden once. She used lots of sticks and berries and pine cones and placed a white pillar candle in a very tall glass in the center. Stunning!
