Yeah!
The Cottage & Bungalow Network is up and running.
It's a place to share photos, videos, projects, blogs, events and more.
Not to replace this forum by any means but a nice complement I think.
It's just getting started so if you can take a moment to come over and share some of your photos, make your home page, set up a new group or whatever you like, that would be fabulous.
There's a lot more to come but I hope you have fun coming into it early.
Also, any comments/suggestions are always appreciated.
Many thanks and best wishes,
Hillary Black

Hillary- I notice you are now Editor at Large. What does that entail now?
Hi everyone--- I joined last night- AND since you all know me as Gigi- my real name is Carrie G.- Gigi is what my grand girlies call me.
SO if you use a nickname here- it would be nice to know your real name for the network-if you chose to use it. An email would be great if you don't want to display your real name here ;)
It's going to be another fun, entertaining, informative place for all of us to gather-
Thanks Hillary!

Just joined and uploaded some pictures to share also. Nothing you all haven't already seen. I hope it gets larger with more input as this forum has seemed to stall a bit.
So, go join all-

Won't the C & B Network make this obsolete? What's the sense in us being at both places?

More work! LOL!
It is still unfolding but here's the scoop on that:
My heart is with C&B but my company needs me to grow other magazines now. So, I will work on C&B with Jickie Torres (new editor ) on projects and more for the magazine but it allows me to do additional special projects, too. (Like the Summer Grilling Guide that is on newsstands June 29--which I loved because I am also a foodie--and the Bedrooms & Baths issue out 7/6.) I am also Executive Editor of Romantic Homes magazine, our sister magazine that's been around for more than 25 years, which entails... more work!!

I hope not! It's meant to be a complement to the forums where, as you know, it's easy to chat and yes, share photos too.
But the network allows folks to set up groups (say we could have preservation groups join and meet others; or someone could start a group like Prairie Bungalow lovers or First Time Home Renovators or...). You can blog anew or offer your existing blog as a link on your home page, and so on.
It's also more of a landing site for the magazine (and sister magazines, too) where we can add content to give more photos/info on stories in the magazine, editor blogs, etc. and provide information about upcoming issues, etc.
I guess we will know more as it gets going. By all means, I hope everyone finds a way for it to be valuable.
Let me know if you have any ideas/suggestions, too!

I like the network so far. Hillary, How do you link up a personal blog/webpage on our homepage?
Carrie

I need to take more photos. I downloaded all mine to photobucket from my old computer and they are now only at Photobucket. Can't seem to use that on the new C&B site.

can't you export them to your computer. picasa is free and if you can export them to that then you can use them wherever you want.

Hi Tammy,
I think one way is to put a link to your outside blog in the first (top) text box.
If you use WordPress, I read that there's a way to link it so your post also hits the Cottages Network -- I can do more digging later if that doesn't help you for now.
Let me know how it goes. Thank you!

I'm just wondering...should we start our own little C & B group on the network? No groups have been started yet, and it would be fitting if we were the first. ;)

We'll have to think of a name for our group - the first thing that popped into my mind was C & B Originals...after all, each of us is an original AND we're the original C & B bunch! :D
Sooooo, if anyone has ideas, please join in!

I think it's a great name, CT:). I really hadn't thought about the name. Are you going to start the group?

Yes, I will start the group as soon as a few more people give us their opinions...I don't want anyone to feel left out. :o
Helloooo, everyone!
Please let us know if you agree with starting our C & B Network Group with the name, "C & B Originals"...(see above)
Tnx!

I was going to start setting up our "Originals" group, when this question appeared on the form:
Privacy
Choose who can join this group. Privacy can't be changed after the group is created.
Anyone
Moderated Membership
Members can invite other people to join.
Allow people to request membership
Which would you like us to choose?
Since we all know each other- and probably have a "trust" between us-
Member can invite others to join
Anyway just a thought- what do you think?
shabbychick
06-16-2010, 11:00 AM
I'm inclined to let anyone join since we don't moderate the membership on our forum (except to avoid spammers).
ChapterTwo
06-16-2010, 11:53 AM
I was leaning towards the option where members can invite people, too, Gigi. Maybe that would give us the opportunity to eliminate the spammers? Yet, we would still be open to new people.
memmey
06-16-2010, 03:45 PM
what does moderated membership mean?
ChapterTwo
06-16-2010, 04:13 PM
I think a moderated membership is when one or more people are designated as the moderators who make sure that the posts and topics are appropriate (not off color, spam, etc.) I think iVillage has that on their message boards.

06-17-2010, 08:13 AM
I like the idea of members being able to invite people. Would that be automatic, or would a moderator have to approve the membership?
Also, I'm wondering--what does a 'group' do on this type of site?
ChapterTwo
06-17-2010, 04:11 PM
Hmmmmm...I am sooo not an expert on these things, RoseMary! I would think that it's either we allow members to invite others OR there is a moderator. I tend to go with the first option.
I hope some more people share their thoughts here...I think by tomorrow night it'd be nice to start our group in the network! :)

I've been looking around the site and Hillarys done a fantastic job! Is there a place though to chat, like here on the forum? It seems to me we just post on our own pages and then visitors (and friends) comment - am I right?
yarborough house
06-18-2010, 12:22 PM
Heather that is the gist I get of the site. Kinda hard to follow conversations on there..it is more like we each have a blog and we comment on them and visit each others..not sure otherwise.

I'm "guessing" that's where the groups come in. I'm hoping to start ours, this evening...we just weren't sure which category to put our group in. See the above posts for more about that, please.

Sooo if we leave here to go there and then what happens here? Maybe there could be a link between the two sites OR maybe there is. Do you think they want to just have the page there and eliminate this site? Really I think that it is apples and oranges. I think( ha what I think..right haha) is the the forum was kinda the cart before the horse. They set this up for us without a main page and now there is one. Don't you think?
Maybe through our group we can link the forum. I believe this is the place we are suppose to chat.
Well what if there was some way to have live chat wouldn't it be wonderful????

I had asked Hillary if this forum was going to go away...and she said no - They will both exist. For me, I think it might be hard keeping up with both - sometimes I have trouble finding time to come here!
Anyway, yes, Memmey...I was thinking the same thing - it would be super to have live chat with our little group! :D
