Our home is new construction, thus we must follow current building code, and that includes white plastic hockey pucks -- I mean smoke detectors -- on the wall or ceiling of each room.

Are there any smoke detectors available that don't look like white plastic hockey pucks? Too much time and effort has been spent in painting with beautiful colors and using stain-grade wood work to endure the plastic.

We have them... we are obeying the code... just looking to replace them with something that will blend in better. Alternatively, if there's a way to stay within code and somehow conceal them (it said right on the packages not to paint them) I am open to suggestions.

I have seen a smoke detector by Jacob Jenson that looks very different than the tradition white fire alarms. It looks kind of like the Plymoth emblem instead.

I don't even notice the alarms and I have them in every room. They just blend in with the ceiling and I don't think about them until I need to replace the batteries.

I haven't seen anything but white- but it would think other "looks" would be a great market for smoke detectors, etc...

I'd be happy if they could just make one that doesn't go off every time I turn on the stove. You get a little splash of grease on an oven coil and pretty soon every smoke alarm in the house is going off. I hate that.

Shabbychick- ME TOO! My alarm near the kitchen blasts off every time I open the oven! I just wish it wasn't so sensitive :(
