Well, I bought a white kitchenaid dishwasher and a new 36" fireclay white farmhouse apron sink. Plus got the faucets for the kitchen and my contractor is building the cubboards and countertops with a very pale blond maple wood with windows. New tile floooring, granite countertops and a 36" garden window above the new sink. I will be sure to post before and after photos :)
It's finally happening!!! Yipee:D

Ok, here's my problem....the stove is white vintage 1945 Okeef and Merrit...cabs are going to be pale maple. What color should the vent hood color range be? I want chrome to match the chrome accents of the antique stove...but my mom says it would look better with a white vent hood...hummmm any thoughts?

I think the chrome will look nice and it will reflect the other colors in the room.

I would vote for white, fear that the chrome would look too out of place with everything else being white. Would look out of place with the stove too.

I think you could get away with white or chrome, especially since it will be above your vintage stove. I have a 1950 Wedgewood. Love, love, love the old stoves. Man do they cook. With all the chrome on these older stoves, I think chrome might be your best choice. It will really play up the stove and will look more vintage. None of my appliances match. I have a black fridge and dishwasher. Even though they do not match, it still really looks good. I like things to be not so matchy matchy. Especially in a vintage kitchen:) Here is a pic of my stove:

We have a vintage stove as well (a 1952 Chambers gas range), and my husband loves to cook. The house is small, so the smells fill up the house pretty quickly :(. He installed an industrial type stainless steel range hood in our kitchen, and it actually looks great with the vintage stove.

Thanks for your thoughts everyone :)
Vintage Girl, your stove, with all of your vintage things looks amazing!!!
I ended up getting a plain stainless chimney vent hood.
The backsplash for the kitchen will be beadboard and some of the cubboards will have glass windows and the beadboard will be visible through the glass doors.
The apron farmhouse sink is here in a big huge box!! Can't wait to see it!!:)

The farmhouse sink is like a bathtub!!! It's 36" across because the garden window is also 36" across. Cubboards and pantries are going in next week and tile floor is down now. whew

If only I had a 36" sink... I would give anything for the original sink that was in my house. A previous owner took it out and put a stainless steel little shallow sink :(. The neighbor still has hers and it is big like yours will be. It was the kind that goes up the wall in the back. Why of why did they take it out:confused:
I can't wait to see your kitchen finnished :)

You are going to love having a big sink. I have a large farmhouse sink and adore it:) Especially since my family cannot seem to figure out where the dishwasher is and leave all their dirty dishes in the sink:rolleyes: With a nice big deep farmhouse sink, your kitchen always looks neat, as you cannot see the mess:D
alene

Awwwww...didn't even think about that:) Deep sink means no one sees my dirty dishes!! LOL!! Another plus haha...
Although, I am getting a dishwasher. I have not had one in soooooo long. I will be using it happily...until the novelity wears off ;)

I went years without a dishwasher or a garbage disposal. We used to be on septic, and could not have either one. Once we hooked up to the city sewer and water, it was like Christmas and my birthday all rolled into one:D Actually hubs gave me the dishwasher and garbage disposal for anniversary presents one year. I didn't even care. I was just happy to have them. Especially the dishwasher.

It's looking great~love the sink! And what a sweet looking dog!
I've never had a dishwasher. Our kitchen is small and when we built the house I decided I didn't need one. I kinda like washing dishes. It's a good time to think~sort of like hanging clothes out on the line:).

I love that mirror, Alene. Do you have a theme in the rest of your house that you want to carry over? You could certainly get away with a beach theme or, with all that stone, do something that evokes Tuscany or ancient Rome. Of course, a shabby chic theme would work, too, with all that white. Let us know what you decide. It's a gorgeous room!

heeheeheeheehee At first I thought you had a bear rug on your floor! Awww sweet doggie. :) Things look as if they are coming along nicely. And that sink is, as my son used to say is, THE BOMB!

Thank you all so much for the kind words :) I was thinking with the bathroom, to go with a lightly colored beach theme. I would like to make the house as "cottage" looking as possible. :)

My bathrooms have the same neutral kind of stone and cabinets (but are not nearly as pretty) as yours, and when I did one of them in a beach theme, I was pleased by how much flexibility it gave me to decorate seasonally. The neutrals and the seashells I used went just as well with the pastels I put in there in the spring and summer as they did with the stronger autumn colors I used later in the year. And there are all kinds of neat beachy-themed Christmas decorations now, plus you can never go wrong with shiny gold.
I still adore that mirror. :)

Oh I love all these pictures. I love me some demo and then redoing it. The kitchen is so pretty. Even though we demo'd it and then redid it - I love it and think knocking it all down and starting from scratch is my way of doing things. Love the bath- can't wait to see the other one- all whtie - my kinda place.

I love what you are doing in both the kitchen and bath. I have a mirror like the one in your bath except mine is gold. I was planning on painting it white, but found a perfect spot for it in my entry. Love, love, love your farm sink.

Love that sink, wish we had room for one that size, I have to put in a single small sink because of the dishwasher. I tell ya, if that dishwasher wasn't already there, I'd not put one in. Have to hand wash all the pots, pans and my vintage stuff anyway, we only run the dishwasher once every 4-5 days.
The stove! I want it! Where did you get it, been searching for one, but haven't found one with all the gorgeous chrome yet.
