Do you find yourself looking at the houses and interiors more than watching the characters while watching tv or a movie? The one house that comes to mind is the one in the Jumanji in space movie (I can't remember what it is called off hand). Any show or movie that takes place in an old house I'm busy scouring the background for clues to the era for my house. Half the time by the time I start paying attention to the show I'm lost on what they've been talking about.:p My house is so stripped of most the details that really I have a blank canvas, decided that we're going to go with Gothic Revival and call it good. Figure that is about as close to a fairytale cottage as they get. ;)

All the time!!! Stepmom and You've Got Mail are two of my favorite movie houses.
However - my best friend just had a movie filmed at her house - it will be out this fall - "Welcome to the Riley's" starring James Gandolfini (Sopranos), Melissa Leo (who was up for best actress Oscar on Sunday), Kristin Stewart (from Twilight). Linda and her husband live in Mandeville, LA - on the north side of Lake Ponchatrain. The filming was done last fall and they crew was there for about a month. Obviously they moved into a hotel for a couple of weeks while they filmed the interior shots.

This is my friend that Memmey and I are with in the photo posted on another link at this site.

I love houses in movies! You've Got Mail, It's A Wonderful Life, Field of Dreams, the houses on Tales From Avonlea, Ladies in Lavender, Meet Me In St Louis, the aunts house in Skylark, Nero Wolfe's Brownstone. . .I could go on and on. I'm like you, Tanya, sometimes I'm not sure what's really going on in the movie or show!

YES!!!:) Right now "Message In a Bottle" comes to mind and I love all the 40's movies - even though in B&W I can just visualize the vivid colors in the bark cloth curtains, the over stuffed furniture, the wicker on the porch...

:D
Favs are:

Meg Ryan's apartments in 'You've Got Mail' and `Sleepless In Seattle'

The 1991 version of 'Father of the Bride' and the follow-up 'Father of the Bride Part II'

But my all time favorite is Andie MacDowell's apartment in 'Green Card' - the one with the indoor greenhouse. Gorgeous!

The cottage/house the character Dorothy lived in from the movie Summer of '42. Right on the beach and so charming.

Oh, I know what you mean! There are movies I watch just for the houses! How to Make an American Quilt, Hope Floats, any period movies.

I forgot about that greenhouse! That was a beauty.

I especially noted the Jumanji house. The author of that story had a kitchen featured in Home Companion years ago. He had lots of craftsman/cottage details that I copied in my kitchen. He must really love a craftsman.

In a completely different bent, I like the house in Nanny McVee. It was bizarre, but I'd have fun living there!

Maria ~ I'll have to watch that movie.

The house in Nanny McVee was awesome. I know the walls were supposed to be the result of very naughty children but they were so cool! :o:p

There was a made for tv movie a few years ago called Rose Red (by Stephen King) and I adored that house. I even asked my brother if there really was such a house in Seattle then looked it up online. The house does exist to a point, it is near a lake in a town in Washington. And no ghosts are killing people for revenge. :D Anyhow the greenhouse in it though over grown was just amazing to me. To be able to afford such a room like that would be wonderful.

I want to watch Rose Red again just to check out the house again. I don't even remember half of the movie except Bones is on there :o, and Stephen King does a cameo as a pizza delivery guy. But the house, oh I so loved that house....

Oh how funny that this thread came up. I was watching "The Family Stone" yesterday and I kept commenting to my husband about the home's cozy/lived in decor and my husband asked me if I was watching the movie, b/c if I wasn't, he wanted to watch something different!

But I love Meg's home in "You've got Mail,", Message in a Bottle, and Susan's home in Stepmom. I also liked what little bit we got to see of Helen Hunts apartment in What Women Want.

In the the movie Stepmom, I love the little restaurant they eat at. If I were to ever had a restaurant, it would have to look like that one. :)

At top of my list of places to snoop, the grounds and castle at Hogwarts. I got to watch the Harry Potter marathon with dd over the weekend and caught myself making mental notes about the grounds. :D

Another cool house - is the one from Alvin and the chipmunks. Dave's house is awesome. I think it is a new built cottage-bungalow looking house but man that kitchen is awesome.

I also love You've got mail, Hope Floats, many more..
so yes I am a stalker of home interiors..

How sad it this. Half of the time I go to movies, I'm more excited about the houses and sets and how they decorate them than the content of the movies.

And I love taking walks in the evening when people have their lights on in their house and you catch the warm glow inside and can steal a glimpse of their decor. I remember one Xmas night driving home from my mothers and we went past this adorable house with this huge picture window and everyone was sitting around the dining table talking and laughing. The lights were sparkling off the Xmas tree...it was so magical.

My name is Mary Ann and I am a peepette.
