Ladies it has been ages since we've done one of these and it is time to get things stirred up again.
Copy and paste your answers in your reply and lets try to keep this going for a bit. Newer members will find that we tend to latch on to one or more of the questions and turn it into a discussion so don't freak if that happens. We expect it. So here goes....

1- What flower are you looking forward to seeing first this spring?

2- Will you be buying annuals or are you starting seedlings from seeds you saved?

3- Do you donate plants to your neighbors?

4- What plant can you hardly wait to see this summer?

5- Any yard projects in the works to be done this season?

6- Snow, are you about sick of it or is there some other part of winter you could do without?

7- There is legislation in the works to ban the sale of childrens toys and clothing if they contain so many parts of lead. This is affecting the resale and thrift stores. It isn't supposed to pertain to the resale/thrift stores but many are already pulling the children's dept out of their stores. What do you think of this?

8- If this legislation goes thru like it is what do you think will happen or can happen to outgrown toys and clothing?

9- Do you watch a tv show that you'd be embarrassed if your friends found out about?

10- Would you accept an offer to attend a class reunion that will be filmed and broadcast to thousands?

Bonus (new people, I rarely make it to 20. Our attention span is way low on these things. Bonus are regularly just goofy.)

If you had breakfast with one of the Disney Princesses who would want to see the most?

1- What flower are you looking forward to seeing first this spring? hyacinth, I just love the scent of them

2- Will you be buying annuals or are you starting seedlings from seeds you saved? will buy some annuals, try to buy plants that will reseed themselves so I don't have to keep spending money on plants and seeds

3- Do you donate plants to your neighbors?constantly, figure if nothing else I'm putting some color into the neighborhood. And I wouldn't get arrested for painting their houses instead.:o

4- What plant can you hardly wait to see this summer?I guess it would be the blue flax and maybe my roses. The flax because I just love the looks of htem and the roses because I've planted so many I want to make sure they come back

5- Any yard projects in the works to be done this season? building raised bed boxes for the side yard to plant our salad makings and herbs in. I also came up with the idea of tearing down the rest of the dinky deck in the backyard and maybe putting in a patio.

6- Snow, are you about sick of it or is there some other part of winter you could do without? Snow is good for covering the dead stuff. I am just so sick of the wind. Really hoping we don't have this stuff this summer and instead have breezes. Gentle breezes not blow the house away wind.

I think it is a good idea in theory but not well thought out. Much of my dd's came from resale stores and if donation stores won't accept the outgrown stuff I'm in deep doo-doo.

8- If this legislation goes thru like it is what do you think will happen or can happen to outgrown toys and clothing? I think it will be a horrible thing if this goes thru as is. Instead of recycling gently used clothing they will now be clogging the landfills. Great idea there people.

9- Do you watch a tv show that you'd be embarrassed if your friends found out about? Brett Michaels Bus of Love, it is like watching a car wreck except way more plastic.

10- Would you accept an offer to attend a class reunion that will be filmed and broadcast to thousands? Not on your life!!!

Bonus (new people, I rarely make it to 20. Our attention span is way low on these things. Bonus are regularly just goofy.)

If you had breakfast with one of the Disney Princesses who would want to see the most? I gues Sleeping Beauty or Cinderella. I've been enamoured with Cinderella for decades and so wanted my wedding to be 'Relly like. :)

1- What flower are you looking forward to seeing first this spring? My purple crocus are already up, but what I'm most looking forward to most is the dogwoods blooming.

2- Will you be buying annuals or are you starting seedlings from seeds you saved? Both

3- Do you donate plants to your neighbors? When I have them. I plan on sharing some herbs with my new neighbor and probably some rose campions:)

4- What plant can you hardly wait to see this summer? My roses and my four o'clocks

5- Any yard projects in the works to be done this season? Lots! We still have to work on our raised beds and I'd like to get a new water feature--but that is iffy.

6- Snow, are you about sick of it or is there some other part of winter you could do without? We haven't had much snow, but a lot of ice and YES, I'm sick of it!

I'm ashamed to say that a senator from my own state is one of the authors of this bill:mad:. I have done a lot of emails expressing my very unhappy opinion about this crazy bill. It is going to put a lot of people out of business and hurt a lot of low income people that depend on buying their kids clothes at yard sales, thrift shops, etc., not to mention charities. Our state has the 'coats for kids' campaign every year, where you donate coats and local cleaners clean and repair them and they are given to kids that don't have a coat. So I wonder what they'll do this year?

8- If this legislation goes thru like it is what do you think will happen or can happen to outgrown toys and clothing? They'll all end up in the landfills:mad: (This includes some children's books, so libraries will be tossing out a lot of books, too)

9- Do you watch a tv show that you'd be embarrassed if your friends found out about? I don't watch much TV.

10- Would you accept an offer to attend a class reunion that will be filmed and broadcast to thousands? Probably not

Bonus (new people, I rarely make it to 20. Our attention span is way low on these things. Bonus are regularly just goofy.)

If you had breakfast with one of the Disney Princesses who would want to see the most? Probably Cinderella--I'd like to see her castle!

Copy and paste your answers in your reply and lets try to keep this going for a bit. Newer members will find that we tend to latch on to one or more of the questions and turn it into a discussion so don't freak if that happens. We expect it. So here goes....

1- What flower are you looking forward to seeing first this spring?Daffodils!

2- Will you be buying annuals or are you starting seedlings from seeds you saved?Neither! I'm a perennial girl, and I don't have patience for seeds.

3- Do you donate plants to your neighbors? We're surrounded by rentals, so no.

4- What plant can you hardly wait to see this summer?Moonbeam Coreopsis

5- Any yard projects in the works to be done this season?Just managing what we have.

6- Snow, are you about sick of it or is there some other part of winter you could do without? We haven't had enough snow this year!

7- There is legislation in the works to ban the sale of childrens toys and clothing if they contain so many parts of lead. This is affecting the resale and thrift stores. It isn't supposed to pertain to the resale/thrift stores but many are already pulling the children's dept out of their stores. What do you think of this?Very scary! I understand that makers of handmade toys, handmade children's clothing, etc. are worried, too.

8- If this legislation goes thru like it is what do you think will happen or can happen to outgrown toys and clothing?
I don't know, but I give all of our outgrown toys and clothes to the crisis pregnancy center that helped us with our adoptions. I'd hate to think what would happen if they were no longer able to provide these things to the young moms that choose to parent their babies.

9- Do you watch a tv show that you'd be embarrassed if your friends found out about?Heroes. I was embarrassed when my hubby found out!

10- Would you accept an offer to attend a class reunion that will be filmed and broadcast to thousands?Absolutely not!

It will have it's trials and errors doing this-BUT a shame the cost will be to small biz, etc.
8- If this legislation goes thru like it is what do you think will happen or can happen to outgrown toys and clothing? Trading within the family, have to be safely creative.

1- What flower are you looking forward to seeing first this spring?
I'm really ready for the dogwood to bloom.
2- Will you be buying annuals or are you starting seedlings from seeds you saved? We will probably buy annuals for containers/window boxes, but we usually try to get perennials.
3- Do you donate plants to your neighbors? Yes!
4- What plant can you hardly wait to see this summer?
It's a tie...Hostas, Soloman's Seal, and our native grasses...
5- Any yard projects in the works to be done this season?
Of course! We would like to plant some arundinaria as a screen, and get the side beds and front yard looking spiffy.6- Snow, are you about sick of it or is there some other part of winter you could do without? Wish we had it!

I think it's great. Poor kids don't need lead in their toys either!

I have exactly two snowdrops right now, and they've been snowed on...I'll be happy to see anything out there!
2- Will you be buying annuals or are you starting seedlings from seeds you saved? I'm a perennial fan too, but will be planting zinnias, nasturtiums, dahlias, clarkias, etc.
3- Do you donate plants to your neighbors? Yep. I always have leftover tomato starts and other stuff.
4- What plant can you hardly wait to see this summer?
Mountain wildflowers!
5- Any yard projects in the works to be done this season?
Have a knockout vegetable garden at my house and at a neighbor's spot. Fix the drip irrigation system.
6- Snow, are you about sick of it or is there some other part of winter you could do without?
If it melted tomorrow I wouldn't mind.
I heard about this, but it's not really on my radar screen.
8- If this legislation goes thru like it is what do you think will happen or can happen to outgrown toys and clothing? ?
9- Do you watch a tv show that you'd be embarrassed if your friends found out about? Don't have TV, but my close friends know about the SpongeBob DVDs...

1- What flower are you looking forward to seeing first this spring?

Hopefully it'll be the narcissus bulbs I planted last fall which are now coming up but haven't opened yet. Most of my flowers die when they're just about to bloom, so I'm waiting with bated breath.

2- Will you be buying annuals or are you starting seedlings from seeds you saved?

I was supposed to save seeds?

3- Do you donate plants to your neighbors?

Nobody's ever shown much interest in my plants, probably because most of them are dead.

4- What plant can you hardly wait to see this summer?

With luck, it'll be my hydrangea with more than one flower for the first time in three years.

5- Any yard projects in the works to be done this season?

Do container gardens count as yard projects? How about scrubbing mildew and mold off my back fence?

6- Snow, are you about sick of it or is there some other part of winter you could do without?

I think I've had about all the snow I want for the winter; I'm ready to move on.

7- There is legislation in the works to ban the sale of childrens toys and clothing if they contain so many parts of lead. This is affecting the resale and thrift stores. It isn't supposed to pertain to the resale/thrift stores but many are already pulling the children's dept out of their stores. What do you think of this?

I haven't seen the actual legislation, so I'm not sure I can comment authoritatively. I guess before I panicked, I'd want to see how many parts of lead we're talking about and how much donatable stuff is affected. Perhaps there are ways to remove the lead parts and replace them with something safe before donating. Lead is toxic, after all, and I wouldn't want to give away something that could harm its recipient.

8- If this legislation goes thru like it is what do you think will happen or can happen to outgrown toys and clothing?

I think it'll be destroyed, though it could be sold with different packaging and warnings. For example, I bought some small figurines to paint that were labeled as lead and had a clear warning to keep away from children. Perhaps the government will set up recycle centers for lead-containing products and will separate the lead from the salvageable parts.

9- Do you watch a tv show that you'd be embarrassed if your friends found out about?

I don't actually watch TV, but I have some fun dvd's of old shows, and yes, I keep them put away so my relatives don't laugh at me.

10- Would you accept an offer to attend a class reunion that will be filmed and broadcast to thousands?

I have never been to a class reunion in the 25 years since I graduated from high school. If it were being filmed and broadcast...maybe I'd be tempted, though I'm not sure I'd want thousands of people to watch me stand along the wall and wait for someone to talk to me like I did in high school. The hors d'oeuvres would have to be really good to make it worth my while.

Bonus (new people, I rarely make it to 20. Our attention span is way low on these things. Bonus are regularly just goofy.)

If you had breakfast with one of the Disney Princesses who would want to see the most?

Hm...I don't really know much about the Disney princesses. Personally, I would want to have breakfast with Queen Elizabeth I. She was a princess at one time. She was kind of like Cinderella except without the prince.

This was fun!

1- What flower are you looking forward to seeing first this spring?

Trilliums!

2- Will you be buying annuals or are you starting seedlings from seeds you saved?

Hmmmm....I think I will only be buying vegies this year.

3- Do you donate plants to your neighbors?

I love to donate plants. I have 2 acres, many natives and many plants that just have not done well here. I often have cedar seedlings, salmonberry, red flowering currents and misc ornamentals that were unhappy here. I like to put them in pots at the end of my drive with FREE signs on them. I am always happy when I see they have gone to a new home. I do the same with furniture. :)

4- What plant can you hardly wait to see this summer?

I am going to do a salad garden this year.

5- Any yard projects in the works to be done this season?

Serious worm box work.

6- Snow, are you about sick of it or is there some other part of winter you could do without?

Yes. I usually take a winter break and go someplace warm and sunny but this year's travels are limited to a week in Palm Springs....but not until April.

7- There is legislation in the works to ban the sale of childrens toys and clothing if they contain so many parts of lead. This is affecting the resale and thrift stores. It isn't supposed to pertain to the resale/thrift stores but many are already pulling the children's dept out of their stores. What do you think of this?

I am not familiar with this legislation but I did see a presentation last year from a professor talking about the lead shot that birds ingest. One teeny lead shot (the size of a pepper corn or small allspice berry) can kill an adult Common Loon. I was also surprised to find out that there is lead in many things that we use. Like that plastic orange construction fencing. Or, there is lead in old paint.....kid's toy trucks, old cribs etc could have lead.

8- If this legislation goes thru like it is what do you think will happen or can happen to outgrown toys and clothing?

I was not aware that clothes were at risk of containing lead.

9- Do you watch a tv show that you'd be embarrassed if your friends found out about?

I don't watch t.v......but I always read Dear Abby on the Yahoo site.

10- Would you accept an offer to attend a class reunion that will be filmed and broadcast to thousands?

Yes......I love reunions!!!!!

1- What flower are you looking forward to seeing first this spring?
Wild Iris

2- Will you be buying annuals or are you starting seedlings from seeds you saved?
Neither. Transplanting wildflowers.

3- Do you donate plants to your neighbors?
No, we all have the same plants growing.

4- What plant can you hardly wait to see this summer?
Fairy Slippers.

5- Any yard projects in the works to be done this season?
Continue bringing plants in around the house.

6- Snow, are you about sick of it or is there some other part of winter you could do without?
We've had very little snow this year. Actually, I'm hoping for some 3 or 4 foot snows before May.

7- There is legislation in the works to ban the sale of childrens toys and clothing if they contain so many parts of lead. This is affecting the resale and thrift stores. It isn't supposed to pertain to the resale/thrift stores but many are already pulling the children's dept out of their stores. What do you think of this?
Pulling the Children's Dept. out of stores is over-reacting. If the stores want that customer base, they may need to reconsider that decision. Not everything contains lead!!!

8- If this legislation goes thru like it is what do you think will happen or can happen to outgrown toys and clothing?
"There is legislation in the works to ban the sale of childrens toys and clothing if they contain so many parts of lead." IF THEY CONTAIN LEAD, the legislation should include how to dispose of them properly. If they do not contain lead, outgrown toys and clothing will probably continue to be passed on to others free or through garage sales/flea markets.

9- Do you watch a tv show that you'd be embarrassed if your friends found out about?
I don't watch TV.

10- Would you accept an offer to attend a class reunion that will be filmed and broadcast to thousands?
Nope.

Bonus (new people, I rarely make it to 20. Our attention span is way low on these things. Bonus are regularly just goofy.)

Ummmm, not interested in having breakfast w/ a Disney Princess.

1- What flower are you looking forward to seeing first this spring?

I am looking forward to seeing what surprises are to be found in my new yard; however, right now, I am ready to see the spring trees (dogwoods, redbuds, and weeping cherry trees).
2- Will you be buying annuals or are you starting seedlings from seeds you saved?

I will probably by a combination of things; however, I doubt this will be a big yard investment year. I have a lot of maintenance to do first. I would like a couple of scraggly-rambly rosess though ... that would be nice. Plus, I was actually looking at the Park Seed catalog the other night and they had some tomato plants more-or-less meant for hanging baskets. So, well, I'll plant lots of stuff I don't plan on planting ... it will just happen.

3- Do you donate plants to your neighbors?

Sure ... but more likely to friends and work buddies because I don't really know my neighbors just yet ...
4- What plant can you hardly wait to see this summer?

The first ripe red sweet cherry tomato ... the first little yellow blossom is great as well ... aren't good southern women always supposed to grow tomatoes? I should learn a little more about canning them ... I tried freezing some last year ... that worked for short periods of time ... a discussion for later.

5- Any yard projects in the works to be done this season?

Chyna ... I'll type too long on this one ... does killing the ivy count?

6- Snow, are you about sick of it or is there some other part of winter you could do without?

I wish the groundhog could be more commited - - we are having pretty dramatic temperature swings around here from hot to cold and vice versa - - Aaahhhh-CCcchhhhHHHhhhooOOOooo.

7- There is legislation in the works to ban the sale of childrens toys and clothing if they contain so many parts of lead. This is affecting the resale and thrift stores. It isn't supposed to pertain to the resale/thrift stores but many are already pulling the children's dept out of their stores. What do you think of this?

If children's toys are KNOWN to contain lead (lead based paint specifically), then children do not need to be playing with those toys. They can gnaw on them and get very very very VERY sick. HOWEVER, if these toys are being sold as collectors items and antiques (like old penny banks and such) for the purposes of sitting on shelves ... well, that is just silly then.

8- If this legislation goes thru like it is what do you think will happen or can happen to outgrown toys and clothing?

I don't live in a state where this is happening, so I don't know a lot about specific legislation. It sounds kinda weird that all children's stuff would be impacted, but who knows these days.

9- Do you watch a tv show that you'd be embarrassed if your friends found out about?

Nope, not really. I watch a lot of television on DVD these days. Commercials annoy me - - a lot.
10- Would you accept an offer to attend a class reunion that will be filmed and broadcast to thousands?

Okay, it is easy for us all just to say, "Umm, no I don't think so" to this question. However, if something really cool was happening at the class reunion to make it worth broadcasting (besides just being an awful reality television show) then I cannot categorically say, "No." What if my favorite author was speaking? What if someone I really cared about was sick or something dreadful and needed me? On a surface level, my answer to this is "Yikes - - NO!" However, I categorically tend to think of all the "what-ifs" in the world.

Bonus (new people, I rarely make it to 20. Our attention span is way low on these things. Bonus are regularly just goofy.)

If you had breakfast with one of the Disney Princesses who would want to see the most?

Tinker-Bell - - She wasn't a princess, but she was pretty sassy!

They're your rules, Tanya, but since others have broken them(:p), I'm gonna change my princess to Miss Piggy. I've always loved her--she's a woman (pig) with a lot of confidence in herself and goes for what she wants:D.

I'm all for banning the sale of toys that have lead in them but the clothes part is what is blowing my mind. I'm sitting on loads and loads of little girl's clothes and if this thing becomes a law then there is little chance I'll ever get rid of them. That is the part that really peeves me to no end. This would end places like the Precious Seconds I usually buy my dd's fancy dresses at. They can't afford to test each and every article of clothing that comes in there and without the clothing they will close which would mean several parents out there can't sell or even donate their outgrown clothing.

To me it seems extremely shortsighted, in this age of living "Green" and being thrifty it seems counterproductive. I'm going to have to donate my stuff as soon as possible before it goes into affect.

Tanya, there is now legislation in committee to amend this crazy bill. It isn't that we want lead in children's things--but, while this law exempts charity/thrift/yard sales from actually doing testing, it would hold the store or yard sale seller liable for any damage inflicted on anyone from possible lead in a product they sold--which is why so many resale/charities are thinking about going out of business.

The new amendment will take all liability from charity, thrift, yard sale and handmade. (The way it reads now, handmade--such as buying yarn at Wal Mart and crocheting a baby blanket to sell on Etsy would be off limits, since your particular blanket hadn't been tested!)

So, if you want to keep the landfills from being overrun with clothing, toys and books, and you want to keep buying thrift for your kids and grandkids, contact your senators and congressmen to tell them how you feel~this issue is in their hands.

I'm just glad they've extended the deadline for another year. Don't know about anyone else but I would never have known about it except Jenn went thrifting and noticed the entire dept was gone at some of her haunts. Not sure if that has happended here yet but yikes!!! I can see not accepting toys but clothes?! I myself wouldn't buy a toy from a resale place if it looks old just because of lead and could it have been recalled. And only from certain manufactures.

Can you imagine what would happen to Etsy, craft fairs and other homemade venues? wow.
