I have been looking for flooring for my family room, and today we went to Lowes. I have checked into the vinyl wood planks, which I thought I could handle myself, until I found out I would have to put an underlayment under them because there is OSB board and they won't stick to that. My goal was to find new flooring, that was not real expensive, but would last for a few years. Lowes has Stainmaster carpet on the roll in stock. It has a 10 year wear and stain resistance on it. I can get a 16 x 25 ft room done, which includes the thicker odorcontrol backed padding, for approx $700 including installation. If I was to do the vinyl planks, it was going to be about $650 to $700 after buying vinyl, underlayment, and getting some help putting the board down. So, Dave preferred carpet over laminate or vinyl planks, and it is just as cheap.....So, that is my plan now. It is a darker beige carpet, low pile and not real plushy, a neutral color with a bit of pattern in it, which is what I wanted. I am just looking for something that looks nice shorter term.
