Just put together a very organic (another word for saying that I have no idea what I was doing:) arrangement of rosehips in an old urn on my front porch. Unless a strong wind carrys it away should last till the end of February. The wild look seems to be my style! Soon I'll fill an old galvanzied trug with pine branches and red apples - another thing that should last through the season. Anyone else go more natural outside/inside during this time of year?

I have a mini hay bale on an old microwave cart on my porch, but (true confessions time) I haven't unwrapped it from its plastic because it'll shed all over the place, and I think my resident rat might set up housekeeping. But it's obscured by three pumpkins and some wood and metal decorations. My garden still has some flowers in it that have a little life left in them (at least till the first frost).

Pumpkins are all I have out right now, along with a little scarecrow on my porch. The cats, initially afraid of the scarecrow my daughters made, have now taken him over:p.
I've been meaning to gather up some large acorns and see if I can't work them into some sort of arrangement with some dried gourds for my table inside.

Oh my gosh Rosemary, that is too cute! I have pumpkins outside right now, stuck here and there in my wheelbarrows, etc. My roses are still going strong. I love a more natural, rugged look also. Just don't have the time to take care of anything more manicured;) I like to use old wheelbarrows, wagons, buckets, etc for yard art. Danske, I would love to see a pic of your urn. I bet it is darling:)

Oh, the cat is a nice touch! How do you get him to stay there? :) I was hoping to get my hands on some cornstalks to prop in the corner of my porch, but I didn't see any at the grocery store this year like I usually do. I'll have to see if I can find something else autumnal to stick up there.

Hubby brought home some horse apples (osage orange is the correct name, I think). They look pretty neat so I'm going to use them in some sort of arrangement. I read that they will keep spiders out of the house~we'll see.
I'll tell Ginger cat about all the compliments:)~we didn't have to get her to stay there, she sleeps there all day most days! At first, all the cats were scared to death of the scarecrow--now they think he is a comfy spot for a nap.

Oh my gosh Rosemary, your post just made me laugh so hard. I live in a town with horsetrails, and we refer to their poops as "horse apples". My first thought was "oh my, those are going to stink up your house":p:D:D

Now I am laughing:p. I'm not sure what they call horse poop here, but it's not apples (at least I don't think that's it:o).
I found a picture online to show you what they look like.

I've been doing more research and found that they are called horse apples in TX, OK and AR. I'm going to get more of them tomorrow. We have too many spiders in our house~we had to spray last year for black widow spiders:eek:. If these work, I'm going to plant some trees on our property. These came from a neighbor.

I remember those things as a kid, but I don't think they were called horse apples, I will have to call my mom and ask her what we called them, hedge apples comes to mind, but not quite sure on that.

:D Horse apples are horse poop here too. ;) Or road apples. Does that give you any ideas about how rustic life can be around here .
