I wanted to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. May you have a wonderful time with all your loved ones and have many things to be thankful for today. I will be making a small turkey breast in the crockpot. First time, so hopefully it will turn out well. If not, there is always McDonalds:p This has been a trying year for a lot of people. Economy has been bad, and some of us have had some personal losses of loved ones. But their is so much to be thankful for. Even in hard times, hope comes through. I am sitting here with 5 chiwi's all trying to get on my lap at once. They don't understand what is happening in the world, they only understand that you are center of their world and all they want to do is love you. My mom is having her first ever Thanksgiving without my Dad. We made it through his Birthday and their anniversary. My mom did it with grace, dignity and a lot of memories and laughter. My Dad would have been so proud of her. She is spending the day with her special group of friends who are all widows, and they will support each other and be thankful for their friendshop. My daughter is with her Dad and his family and I am thankful that they have a close relationship. Hubs and I will spend the day with dogs, birds and each other. I am thankful he is willing to trust my cooking skills:D I am thankful that I have made it through another year (almost), and sad that others in the world have not. Each day, even with all of its challenges is another day that you can find some small blessing in and rejoice in that. May all of my wonderful friends here have that day. Take care, eat well, laugh, hug loved ones and friends, take your dog for a walk, cuddle with your cat. Enjoy the moment.

Happy Thanksgiving:)

Thank you so much for a wonderful post, Vintagegirl!

This is truly a day to be thankful. I just put a 20 pound turkey in the oven and my daughters are doing the tablesettings and did a couple of pies. I'm thankful that we're all here together today. My brother and his family arrived yesterday. As you said, there is much to be thankful for. We live in a country where we are free to celebrate as we choose and I am thankful for the men and women who defend us and maintain that right for us. I'm thankful for my sweet husband, (who peeled potatoes this morning), and for our two beautiful girls. I try to practice thankfulness everyday, but today is a special day for memories of times past and how they have shaped us to be who we are today. Yes, the economy is bad and times are hard for so many, yet we can still be thankful for all we have and know that with family we can make it thorugh anything.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

I meant to add~yay that you're using your crock pot, Vintagegirl! I'm putting my mashed potatoes in my big one and gravy in the smaller one. I love using them whenever I can.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you (except the spammers, LOL). I'm sitting here in front of the fire watching the snow fall outside, and it's beautiful. I've got my coffee (with eggnog flavored creamer!) and the cat is lounging on the rug nearby. Life is good. The snow is supposed to stop and turn over to rain midday, so by the time I have to leave for my sister's house, the roads will probably be better. All I have to take is rolls (store-bought) and wine. My sister and her husband are fabulous cooks, so I'm looking forward to a wonderful meal this evening and an uneventful drive home. Hope you all have a great day.

Yes, beautifully said. You ladies are in inspiration to me.:) I hope you all had a Happy Thanksgiving.

Tuesday night, Ashley and I ended up getting very sick, and I had to call all my daycare families on Wednesday morning bright and early (5am) so that they could find alternate daycare. Not sure what Ash and I had, but we had it good. I have not been that sick in years. Ashley and I missed Thanksgiving at my moms, I fixed us mashed potatoes to eat.. By Thursday night we were feeling much better. I did take off Friday morning for 3 hours to do a little shopping, but didn't go far. We fixed a dinner with ham today. Plans were to put up the tree today, but it is 6pm and everything is still in the attic. Austin came home Wednesday evening very late, went to Grandmas on Thursday, and is going back home tonight. At least I get to see him for a little bit, he won't be home again till December 28 :(. Ashley is in the Christmas parade tonight, but I am not going, it is 14 degrees with the wind chill. I hope you all had a nice relaxing Thanksgiving weekend. Have a great night. Marie

Aw, Marie, I'm so sorry to hear you were sick over Thanksgiving! Do you think it might have been a touch of food poisoning?

Maybe you and Ashley can cook yourselves a turkey dinner next weekend or something and have a late Thanksgiving.

I had a great meal at my sister's house, and as I had hoped, the snow all melted away in the rain so my drive home was safe. I'm going to get myself a turkey breast here pretty soon, though, and cook it up with some homemade stuffing so I can have some leftovers. Tonight, though, it's chicken breasts in the crockpot with figs and apricot jam. onions, and artichokes. We'll see how it turns out.

I went to a crafts show today and bought several cute things to use as stocking stuffers and to send to one of my out-of-town friends. Lots of the crafts were kid-oriented, but I did find some great refrigerator magnets and earrings. I got home just in time, as it is now raining again. I think I'm in for the rest of the night. :) I can pack up all my Thanksgiving decorations tonight so tomorrow I can go find the many, many xmas boxes.

Marie, so sorry you and Ashley were sick for Thanksgiving:(. I'm glad that you two are feeling better today.

We had ten for Thanksgiving dinner and everything turned out great. I'm going to cook my potatoes early and warm them in the crock pot every year from now on! The best part of the day was the time spent together, laughing and talking. My neice and nephew enjoyed quite a few stories from their dad's and my childhood.

Shabbychick, so glad the snow melted for you and you got to the dinner safely! Sounds like you found a great craft show. I'm looking forward to seeing your Christmas decorations.

My son-in-law deep fried two turkeys, so we would have lots of left overs. Since this is the first year to have Thanksgiving in our new house near my daugher and son-in-law we had a small dinner. I have been decorating for Christmas since the day after Thanksgiving. Guess I'm getting old because it seems to be taking longer than usual to get all the trees up and decorated.

My daughter is so excited about being able to decorate her house for Christmas this year. They usually came to our house for Christmas (a 6 1/2 to 7 hour drive). Now they can drive their golf cart to our new house (1/2 mile).

koolmimi~isn't it wonderful to live so close to family:)? My parent's live next door, so they only had to walk across the yard to enjoy Thanksgiving with us!

I hope your daughter and son-in-law have a wonderful time decorating their home for Christmas! The first year in your own home is always special.
