Did anyone ever see the movie "Chocolat"? Well, it is set in a small French village; I guess many would call the style Provencal. With that said, it looks a lot like the type of cottage vintage stuff we love around here. Anyway, the floor of the Chocolaterie (candy store) in the movie has the most amazing tile.

I am not sure if it is navy blue or black, but it is in an intricate star pattern. If I could find this tile (or something similar), then I would find a way to tile an entire room. I love it!

If you Google Images the following phrase: Tile from Movie Chocolat - - then, the third image that appears is "split" - - the image on the lower half is the Chocolaterie with the beautiful tile. If anyone knows what this pattern is called (or in general the "type" of tile we are dealing with here), then please respond.

Please be aware that the image appears to have been posted on a web-design message board by some other people who love this tile and are trying to re-create it in a virtual reality on-line world. I'm not endorsing that site in ANY WAY - - nothing against them, this is just the first Google Image that seemed "safe" I managed to find of what I wanted to show you guys.

Sorry about the long disclaimer - - but it seemed appropriate - - thanks for helping me search.

Great to see you on here, Jenny:). It's been so long since I've seen that movie that I don't remember the floor, but it's beautiful! It reminds me of a quilt pattern. I'd love to see some pictures if you manage to re-create it in your own little cottage!

Hey there Rosemary. As we have lived in our cottage, I have found that my sunroom has become more of a mudroom. I would like to put some beautiful tile on the sunroom floor. Then, I can put some pretty white wicker or sunroom appropriate furniture out there as well as a desk, but the actual "floor" could manage its job as the outdoor entrance a little better. There is a very crude painted wood floor out there right now that is just fine ... if I can't find or afford tile I may just paint a pattern on the existing floor and go on with my life ... but I LOVE that tile ... it would motivate me.

Anyway, best wishes to all in cottage land.

Cheers.

Painting the floor is a great idea, Jenny! You could even copy the pattern of that tile. I haven't looked, but I imagine that there are a lot of sites in the web that can tell you just how to do it.

Yeah, I have been searching for tile ... mosaic, provencal, etc. ... (mostly online) ... so, I believe I am just going to contact some tile people and get some information. For all I know, the tile in the movie was VERY expensive. My sunroom is on the proverbial "to-do" list. I have also heard rooms like my sunroom called a Carolina room. Sort of a closed in porch with drywall and glass as opposed to screens. However, it is an addition on to the back of the house. Anyway, I did some reading Rosemary and for floors like mine, boat-paint is actually suggested. I don't know a lot about boat-paint, but it is supposed to be pretty durable. No matter what, this is a project for spring/summer. Every best wish to all in cottage land. Work kinda took over my life for awhile ... so, I haven't been around much ... reading along though ... Cheers!

Nice to see you back here. I have been wondering how you have been:) I think painting your floor would be so much fun. Before I put down the wood in my house, I had my kitchen floor painted. I have cement subfloors, so it was easy to do. I did a brick pattern, and I loved it. Very durable and easy to maintain. I have a friend that I have since met that does murals. If I had known her back them I would have had her do her magic to my floors. I adore sunrooms and would love to have one. My parents had one in one of their old homes and it was wonderful. All the glass windowns brought in so much light and it was such a comfy feel good room.:)
