I first looked at my 1921 Craftsman style cottage on November 15, 2010, and closed on Christmas Eve!. The move-in process has been a bit slow, but I'm loving it!

Congratulations on your beautiful house, Carissa! The snow cover makes it look ever so cozy.

I moved into my house last fall (LOTS of TLC needed) and I'm still not done with the work or the unpacking...there is much in the attic, so please don't get discouraged. Just remember that slow and steady wins the race! :o I wish you all wonderful things in your new home.

Thanks again everyone for the encouragement and compliments! I love my little cottage and it's starting to feel more like "me." I finished painting three rooms last weekend, and it will be a while before I paint again - I'm still sore :D

Thought I'd post some photos of the finished work. I'm happy with everything but the "Pearl" treatment in the bedroom is outstanding. It came out better than I could have ever hoped :)

Absolutely beautiful! I love the colors you chose, and that pink wall (is it pink?) is stunning. I can't wait to see what else you do. I hope your soreness goes away soon. Maybe a nice hot shower in your beautiful bathroom will help.

Thank you! I do think you could call the bedroom pink :-) It started with that deep red base coat and then they give you a goopy, pearly, pink-tinted "treatment." My friend and I put that on with brushes in a swirl pattern and now it looks like you're standing inside a pearl. I am really happy with how it turned out! Now, if I could just find someone to help me move my bed!! :-)

How far do you need the bed moved? I have a huge, heavy four-poster in my bedroom, and I slipped super-sliders under the legs, so now I can slide it from one place to another whenever I need to clean under the bed. I've ended up putting them under almost all my furniture. Would that do it for you? You can find them in most hardware stores.

The pearl finish is incredible. I'm going to have to try that on something. I wonder how it would look on a piece of furniture.

Thanks everyone so much for your input and encouragement! Since the painting weekend I've been focused on moving my things in from my previous home. I have made some progress, though, and am posting a few pictures to show it :-)

These show an inexpensive but beautiful bookcase from Target that Daddy put together for me (I helped!), a mermaid stained glass art piece that my son and Daddy hung in the bathroom window, my Mom's silhouette picture, and curtains in the kitchen. I'm planning to paint the kitchen red :-)

Oh, I love your stained glass window. How sweet! I can't wait to see the kitchen pictures when you're all done painting it. What will you use for accent colors?

What a lovely stained glass piece:) I have a red kitchen also, but I only painted the cupboards red. The rest of the kitchen is a soft green. You will love having a red kitchen. It is so bright and fun and of course red stimulates the appetite also:D I am looking forward to more pics as you finish getting your stuff moved in.

Thanks everyone! My plan is to leave the cabinets and a built-in shelf white. Then I'll have blue kitchen towels and so forth. We'll see how that works, but I'm definitely open to suggestions :-)

Made some more progress this weekend!

:D

Hot red in the kitchen. I wanted a red kitchen from the first moment I fell in love with the cottage.

My son picked the green for his room. Medium green on the walls, dark green on the baseboard trim.

The color in the dining room came from a paint chip called "Mermaid." I'm a total mermaid nut, so it seemed like destiny.

Pink walls in the study, with dark brown trip. My inspiration for this is a paisley bulletin board that I'll put up in there soon. I may do some decorative stuff in here with additional colors.

Great colors! I'm interested to see how the pink and brown combination comes out. That red in the kitchen is pretty fearless! I can't wait to see the finished product!
