Just out of curiousity, does anyone know why some of these mags are shutting down while others continue? I was at Wal-Mart today and noticed that Country Living, Victoria, etc. are still available. What makes those different?

They must have more advertisers, also Victoria I believe had a strong following and when they closed down before there was a huge outcry. Also maybe some of them are older than others and therefore worthy of keeping going.

Chyna is right, it has to do with advertisers. My guess is since most of the bigger name mags are owned by just a handful of publishers, the publisher decides which of their magazines they are going to "push" the ads to. And you know, I think I will ask for refunds because I don't want to be told which magazines I will be getting - they should have offered choices.

I read that CL had a "very loyal following" but just not the advertising support. Maybe this discussion has already been had, but I just can't figure out why CL was cut.

Anyway, I was given Sunset as a replacement, and though it's not bad, it's certainly not my style. Frankly, other than Cottages & Bungalows, I don't think there is any other mag that I would be interested in.

I just saw on Karen Weir Jimerson's blog that she's going to be writing a column in Country Gardens magazine. The column will be called Slow Lane, just like it was in Country Home. It'll be on the newstands May 18th. She says she has an article in the March issue of BH&G interviewing the Barefoot Contessa. She has an article in the spring issue of Creative Home where she writes about gardening with her kids. That was, I believe, that last issue of Creative Home that was published, at least for subscription. She says she's compiling a book of essays as well. If you want her to send you a note and let you know when it comes out, you can e-mail her at karenweirjimerson@gmail.com, or if you read her blog, she'll be announcing it there as well. I'm so glad to see she's found a new home for her article. She was one of my favorite columnists ever at CH.

Last week when I was in Walmart a man was putting out new magazines so I asked if he had C&B and he said the guy who used to supply them just up and quit so it will be a while before they are in stock again. Bummer.:(

I finally saw it in Joann's (the craft and fabric store) the other day, which is also where I found Romantic Homes. Other than that, I've looked everywhere and couldn't find either one in stores.

I am ready to subscribe to Cottages & bungalows. Boy, it's the most expensive magazine I will have ever subscribed to! But I am going to bite the bullet and do it.

My question is, do I dare subscribe for 2 years? I'm so afraid it will go out of business too!!

Oh, I hope we don't lose this one! Is the latest issue out yet? I subscribed awhile back and haven't seen or heard anything for awhile now.

I think C&B is expensive because "they" chose to limit their advertising to related products. The ads are so fitting that they are almost part of the magazine. Two years on, and not a single ad for makeup, or shampoo, or prescription drugs. I hope C&B finances don't suffer because of it.

I sent in my subscription, here's hoping the magazine continues!
