View Full Version : Swap time?

It has been quite some time since we all did a swap (I think since last summer ) and since there are some newbies to this site, it might be a great way to "enhance" our friendships. Or just an excuse to see how creative you can be with a $10 limit.

So I am happy to coordinate this swap. For any of you who have not done this before, you sign up by a certain date, get partnered with a buddy (the swap organizer does this), then put a gift package together - generally we have a theme to the swap - for $10 or less and you have mailed it out to your partner by a certain date.

If you want to participate, please post "count me in" and we'll get the swap going.

Our theme will be "spring has sprung" and your item(s) should be things that say spring.

Okay - let's get the party rolling!!:)

HaHa! We are on the same wavelength...I was thinking about that a few days ago. I wasn't sure if I had missed a swap when I was AWOL for a while - I'm glad I didn't!

Please count me IN for Spring! :)

This sounds like fun. As long as someone can give me a few suggestions as to what we "swap". Is it something "new", something from a "collector or antique shop"?

I would like to participate in it.
Thanks. Marie

All -

I realized I didn't put in a date to sign up for this - - next Monday 4/6. You have until then to be part of our swap. When you get your partners name, send them a pm and ask for mailing address. Send their package out no later than 4/27 - this gives you 3 weeks to put it together and mail.

When packages start arriving, take a photo and post for all to see. C'mon, there have to be a few more out there wanting to get on board. I'm calling Mem before she misses out!!!

mac -
it can be old, new, handmade, store bought - whatever. Sometimes we get more specific with swaps like a kitchen item or an ornament. But since this is a new home for all of us (C&B), I thought it would just be fun to be generic and see what a spring swap means to you. If you want, you can ask your swap buddy about favorite colors or flowers or what they collect. That's up to you! Enjoy!!!

I would like to enter the swap also. I am new and have been lurking, looking and reading all your posts. You seem like such nice people.

A bit on me. I live in a 1929 foursquare. Not quite a cottage but home to us.
We live in a historical district so lots of rules :) good sometimes not good at others. We have many ongoing projects and the to do list never seems to get shorter as I am sure many are aware of. I have 4 kids ranging from a high school senior to a 3 year old preschooler. My hubby is in the military and is very handy in all things to do with the house.

I enjoy reading all your posts and will join in soon.

Airsides and WannaB
Annielinz and LesB
Gigi and Yarborough
Rubyslippers and Mac78
Shabbychick and Suz
Evelyn and CohenCottage

Send your partner a pm with your "real" name and address. Feel free to ask about favorite colors or things that mean spring to your partner. Then start putting your package together. You have until April 27th to get your package in the mail.

Please, please, please, try and be timely and if for any reason you can't "play the game" let me know. I will be starting a spreadsheet with who was hooked up with who for future swaps. This way you won't get the same person you were hooked-up with for this swap.

Once you get your swap package, please take photos and post on this link. We ALL LOVE to see what everyone gets. Go forth and be creative!!

Cheapdiva...
What about Chyna?? She's away on vacation...I'm sure she'll want to be a part of this. Maybe you can match up Memmey and Chyna! :) (Or have they already been swap buddies?)

okay - Mem, you and Chyna will be swap buddies. And if she decides not to particpate, I have a plan B. Welcome back and don't disappear again!!!;)

cheapdiva
04-08-2009, 06:09 AM
First off - Chyna or Lisa, do you want to participate? If so, let Mem know and let me know.

Okay - Mac wants some help with this whole swap thing so I am going to ask a few questions you can answer if you so chose to help your partner in finding the swap item(s). REMEMBER $10 is the limit and it can be new, old, something you have, something you buy, something you make.

What is your favorite color?

What colors do you decorate with?

What makes you think of spring?

Do you like to garden?

What collections do you have?

Anything else you want to share?

I think I'll bow out this time around. I'm still decompressing from the auction and nursing a really nasty sinus infection. Just plain tuckered out. I can't wait to see your swaps!

chyna
04-10-2009, 02:15 PM
Oh what the heck, I'm in. :D

What is your favorite color? pinks and blue, red is a good one too.

What colors do you decorate with? yellows (as in creams), pink, red, black. My kitchen is really just pastels, majority is pink but there is some cobalt blue, soft blue....

What makes you think of spring? the greening of the trees, grass and flowers!

Do you like to garden? With a house I've dubbed Briar Rose Cottage I guess I'd have to. :p

What collections do you have? crotched potholders that look like articles of clothing, handkerchiefs. Pretty much if somebody has embroidered it I like it. I also like and trying to collect stamped aluminum. So far I have two cakes stands. :o

Just checking in to make sure you have all heard from your swap buddy. If not, send me a pm and I'll check up on your bud.

I am sure you are all shopping, creating, thinking, fluffing up your swap. Can't wait to see what spring means to all of you.

don't worry, I won't be including the radiator knob in my package (this means spring to me when I can shut the stupid things off!!).:D

Well we are in the last week of getting swap stuff ready..it has been fun and a bit difficult as I do not know you all that well. Gigi gave me a great basis to run with and I hope she likes what I did. Should go out via ups this week.

I've been looking forward to getting Memmey for so long and seeing things and thinking of her that now that I do have her I'm like a deer in headlights. Just figured out what I'm doing last night. :o I've had ideas but some involve last minute. Story of my life. :p

Chyna-

Ain't nothing wrong with last minute. Some of my better ideas and follow-through have been last minute. The two best dresses I sewed were my sister and her best friend's prom gowns and I was doing last minute hemming 3 minutes before they left..(hemming while they were wearing it) :)

this has been so fun...the excitement is building..

I was tacking down the beadwork for my wedding dress at the church so yep I guess you could say last minute seems to be my thing. :p In my defense there, my mom was supposed ot have tacked it on while I was in the shower and didn't realize how intricate I'd made the beadwork so once it was on and I bent my arm the beads just popped up.

Mac - - I have been in three quirky little vintage stores in the great hunt for my swap item. I just haven't found it yet. It isn't a matter of "last minute" - - it is a matter of just not finding the "right" thing. I get kinda swap crazy - - I like to find THE perfect thing. So, you are on my mind a lot. I will post the second it is in the mail doing the happy dance.

I just wanted you to know I was thinking of you. Thanks again for the sweet PM just saying, "Hello" - - I needed some friendly Cottage-Buddy words earlier this week.

Bye!

Just want Gigi to know that I am taking the full allotted time for this swap.
I was originally going to mail it out on Saturday the 25th but we have some festivals and such going on this weekend that I need to see if anything else is screaming out at me to buy :) So, I will mail mine out on the last day - nothing like last minute - on Monday the 27th...

Hope you like what you get...

Gigi

alright, all -
You have until Monday to get those packages out (that's when mine is going!). We should start seeing some postings with photos next week.

To those of you who are "worried" about the swap - take a deep breath. We all love a package, no matter what's inside!!

I'm going to what is usually a GREAT flea market on Saturday...so I'm going to wait 'til Monday to mail my swap....just in case there's something that screams out to me, to be included! ;)

yarborough house
04-24-2009, 10:14 AM
Chapter two - don't you love it when things scream to be bought? My husband does not understand that. He constantly tells me - you know inanimate objects do not talk. I merely smile and say - yes they do you just have to listen. :) Enjoy the flea market sounds fun.

ChapterTwo
04-24-2009, 10:47 AM
Yes, Yarborough, they sure DO talk! I've learned to listen...because when I don't, they haunt me, and I keep thinking that I should have bought them!

This particular flea market is held by volunteers of our local animal shelter...the money is used towards sick and injured animals...and so it's not only great that we can find so many good things, but it's for a wonderful cause! I'll let you know what I come home with tomorrow...:)

Gigi - mine went out today by UPS- they said it should be there by Wednesday. I wrapped the items in fun paper but since some were breakable they smushed my paper and encased it in bubble wrap. So, have fun walking on the bubbles like my kids do.

What a nice surprise. I go to pick up my daughter from preschool and when we get back there is a package on my porch from Gigi...
How cute it all was. Sophie ( my daughter) was in love with the bunnies as soon as they came out of the box. The soap smells lovely and the pitcher will be welcome addition to put flowers on the back porch. I am sure my son will steal the margarita glass to take to college with him :)
thanks for it all, I love it.
We need to do this again in the fall- halloween timeframe and then again at Christmas. Those are my most fave times to create and get "crafty" :)

here is my box of goodies -

My spring swap box arrived from Suz! I'm just tickled pink! She made me a wonderful lime green eyelash scarf (that I love and am going to wear to work today) and gave me some flower seeds (morning glory and moonflower) harvested from her garden. I can't wait to get these in the ground! There is also a really cute purse clip for keys in green that I'm going to put to use pronto so I can quit fishing at the bottom of my purse for keys! What wonderful, thoughtful gifts, and I love that handmade touch! Thanks again, Suz!
