I just thought I'd share one of my favorite projects - my little herb garden.

I wasn't a very good vegetable gardener and the deer were always nibbling on it anyways so I dug it out from a rectangle to a circle, made some of the stepping stones myself and some were bits and pieces I found around the house when we moved in. I designed it to be a garden my little boy could walk through - he knows to stay on the stepping stones.... I had to make a map of the plants I used (and weather they were perennial or annual) and keep it inside the house - imagining what a 3 year old would do with little stakes with letters on them! Oh my.....

Anyways, spring as sprung here and the blossoms are out. It will be off to the nursery soon to plant more!

ps these pictures are from last year.....

That looks incredible. What a great idea to reuse things you had for stepping stones.Thank you for sharing your pics.

WOW! The great thing about where you live is the climate - much like Seattle's, perfect for growing things! Really lovely.

That is beautiful . I wish I had enough sunny spots for an herb/vegetable garden :) I like the birth bath too.

I have a cute little area a little bit like that ... would you mind sharing some of the herbs you planted? I'm definitely planning to plant an herb garden this year. I love the different shades of green with the mature flowers. I think it is precious. Excellent work!

Bye,

Jenny

Did you start your garden from seeds or from small plants? (Can you tell how incredibly impressed I am and how much I am dying to copycat this look?) Anyway, in all seriousness, how did you go about getting started?

Thanks,

Jenny

Hi Jenny:

I started them from seeds inside my house. I labelled them carefully and then when there was no more danger of frost, took them outside. That garden was a square vegetable garden but it had an established Comfrey on one side and a Clematis on another end so I dug the middle out and made it a circle! I also added a Gunneria which grows just huge if it has lot's of water. Then I put an old birdbath right in the middle of it and "made" stepping stones to go around it and out. Then I looked at my plant list and how high they would grow and what colours they would be and arranged it inside on paper. There are alot of free downloadable herb garden plans out there, the Better Homes and Gardens website had some good ones.
