Remember I was struggling with paint colors for my kitchen. Well, I have decided what I am doing in there. I am putting up beadboard wallpaper below the chair rail, then painting above chair rail a sand color. I will accent with color in the curtains and throw rugs, and wall decor. I am just to unsure about painting it blue as I wanted. Something tells me to go neutral.
My first step is done.....removing the wallpaper border in the kitchen and washing the walls down. My daughter and I did it Sunday. Bless her heart, she is such a good kid. (She is 18). NO MORE wallpaper or border for me, well except for my beadboard. I am too old for peeling off wall border. lol I am buying paint tonight, and am going to work on painting it in the evenings.
I have 2 months to get it done, as my daughter's graduation party is
June 13.
I just need to find some decor for the kitchen now, and material for a curtain.
What a sweetie to be 18 and chip in! I know it's NOT the easiest job taking down wallpaper etc. I love bead boarding and we just adding some in our beach home. We put it about 4 feet high.

Neutral is always good. You can add blue in with accesories and maybe in your fabric choices.
What a sweet DD you have, and what a fun (?) bonding moment. Actually some of the best times I remember is when DD and I removed wallpaper and painted her room.

You've made a lot of progress, already. I hope a good night's sleep worked wonders for you! ;)
I agree with you and annielinz...when in doubt, go neutral! You can always add (and change) your accents for the touches of color you want. Keep up the good work!

I haven't painted the kitchen yet, I did decide on a color.....I am going neutral, sand color (I think). The only time I have to work on it is the weekends, and my weekends are so full, as this Saturday I am going to Toledo to take my son to a college, then Sunday we have to take my daughters prom dress back to Lima because they didn't do a very good job of taking in the bodice.
My goal is to have the kitchen painted before the graduation party.....I hope.
Oh it's so nice to have a goal- a graduation party is perfect too!
Our goal is to have our beach property ready for a September wedding
One step at a time... our problem is we always have toooo many projects going at a time.

So, I had these mags from my neighbor, that I have been looking at for the past week. I kept looking at these pics of a living room and a kitchen in blue......so......Saturday about 5:00 I went and got paint and started painting my kitchen.....BLUE, and white under the chair rail, until I can get the beadboard wallpaper up. I love it...the blue. I am done with the main wall , and need to finish the cupboard wall. I just mopped and am putting the kitchen back together. I still have the chair rail to paint,as I was afraid to mask off the freshly painted walls. So I gues I am getting there. At least I really like the blue I picked.
And yesterday I was gonna go neutral....and had that color picked out.
I am that way, change my mind last minute on things. I think I spend too much time looking at mags. ;)

I do that too, change my mind at the last minute and it is usually for the better!
Are you going to post pictures?

So, here is a peek to my color. I did not paint the chair rail yet as I was afraid to mask off the fresh paint. I am not sure I like the stark white....it was called "Silent White" and I thought that is what I wanted, but I don't think so. I may try a more creamy white on the bottom. I am just painting the bottom till I get my beadboard wallpaper up. Which may be a few weeks.
But I do love the blue....the blue appears a little darker in the kitchen than it does in the pic.

That's a beautiful shade of blue. The wall is going to be wonderful when you're done!

The blue looks so fresh. Isn't it funny when you have an idea and then go and do a total turn around. I have found picking the right shade of white can be just as difficult as picking a color. I tend to lean towards creamy off whites in my house. All in all its a wonderful improvement and Bravo to you!

Marie ~ your blue walls are just beautiful. I had the feeling that you really were leaning toward blue so I'm not surprised that you changed your mind about the neutral color. It looks so fresh and crisp with the white. As for the white color you're looking for try to picture white caps on the ocean waves and that is the white to go for. I personally like a pure white ~ no cream (yellow) in it ~ with blue. Just goes together so well and so clean looking. You've done a great job so far & keep up the good work!:)

Have you thought about having some yellow accents?
mac78
04-05-2009, 05:13 PM
Yes, I like yellow too. I almost picked up a big pack of nice yellow dish towels today.
As far as the white, I am going to try a different color, it is called Sand Castle, and is a color that is in my dining room. I have some here so I can experiment with it.

So I got more painting done. I wish I had a whole day to myself to get it all finished,,,,,but I don't see one in the future.
Here is a wall I did today. I can't believe the difference in how the cupboards look against the blue. I was so scared to do color in here, but I love it.

I LOVE it too! Blue is my favorite color...and it looks wonderful against the white cabinets!
Step one down---Yah!!!! Great job.;)

are you going to paint the window trim white also?

Wow  that looks incredible!
Hanging some plates or platters in your soffit area would look great.

No, I won't be painting the window trim, hubby won't let me. :( I do want to find some things to hang on the soffet area. It looks so bare after having border up for so many years.
I was in a consignment shop last night and bought a white valance with embroidered edges on it for $4 to hang in the window. I hope to get some more done tonight.

Hey that is my Wedgewood color scheme I considered. Looks as wonderful as I'd imagined. :) I don't think the white is too stark or is this the other white you talked about getting? Looking good, can't wait to see more. ;)

The white I was talking about was in the first pictures, and it is the white below the chair rail, where I will eventually put beadboard wallpaper. It was too white against my oak floor and table. The cabinets have been white for a few years which I like......as long as my dear son keeps his dirty hands off of them. :p

That is the meaning of life, you will never get time. You will have to arrange that one. Life is really short. If this is the case than I think you should hire any helper or may be some high school student can help you and you can pay for that.
What do you think about this ... you will have to complete at least 10 days before graduation party, so that you can arrange other things as well.
I haven't painted the kitchen yet, I did decide on a color.....I am going neutral, sand color (I think).
