So this evening, I stood in Walmart scouring the magazines. The only mag I saw that I really wanted was "Cottage Style", but it was $10, and I think that is a lot for a magazine so I didn't buy it. It must come out 3 or 4 times a year for that price? They don't even have Coastal Living at Walmart. I saw "Country Living", and browsed thru it, but it is a little "too country" for me. I thought I had read some where on here that "Country Living" is coming to a halt also, but in the mag I looked at, there were subscription cards in it, so I wonder if they are stopping since they are still putting in the cards. I also looked thru "Cottages & Bungalows", and while it was ok, the mag itself was "quite small", and not quite my style, not a lot of cottagy to me, and I think the price is a little steep. I ended up buying a Better Homes and Gardens, which I used to get but my subscription ran out.

Oh well, I got Cottage Living for a year, and that is probably about the best I have seen so far, with Coastal Living coming in next. Too bad that took CL away, it was a great magazine.

Besides Country Living, Cottages & Bungalows, and Coastal Living, Better Homes & Gardens.......what other home decorating mags are out there that cater to the "cottage" lovers?

I was happily surprised to see that Country Almanac still exists. I scooped it up the other day...which is what I seem to do now more than ever. I'm so afraid they're all going to disappear! It might be too "country" for you, but I love it.

I paid the $10 for the Cottage Style magazine ~ I love it & used to buy it all the time and I preferred it over Cottage Living. What a disappointment when it was no longer available.
As far as I know C&B is the only cottage~type magazine available on a regular basis. I like the magazine & the only thing I would say is it could be a little "beefier" and the more pics the better esp of the living rms.:)
One of the things I really appreciate about C&B is that it's not what I call hoity~toity ~ it's mostly older small homes with furnishings the reader can relate to ~ I'm not gonna spend thousands of dollars on a sofa or custom~ made drapes etc. It has some great ideas & I just hope it stays around for a long time.:)

I agree, Breezy, I was a big fan of Cottage Style magazine too. It's such a shame that, over time, there were more and more magazines to suit our tastes, and now things are going backwards, and we're left with only one that it truly "cottage".

Mac78, I have two editions of the cottage style magazine 2007 & 2008 and was willing to hand over the 10 bucks. They are worth the price. I was so disappointed when the one they have on display now is just last years reprinted

There are no ads and the pics are beautiful. Its like all the magazines you subscribe to rolled into one. Think of it as a coffee table book only its not hard bound. Its a keeper you will go thru over and over again, especially now since there are no other magazines in this venue.

I think it would of been great if the folks from Cottage Living would of compiled the best of the photos from their mag and produce a magazine like this.I would of handed over the money for that too.

My major complaint of magazines now are the tremendous amount of ads, I know they need them to survive but make up for it with readable/viewable content folks.

I just got my replacement for Country Home.....Ladies home journal....waaaaa.

Alright venting done.....

Am I understanding this right, Cottage Style is done too? I am 99% sure I saw an issue at WalMart and it was close to $10.

Marie ~ the Cottage Style magazines that cost $10 only come out a few times a year ~ I think. The CS that came out on a regular basis cost way less. I pay the $10 cause I really enjoyed that magazine and it would be great if they brought it back the way it used to be.

I have the Cottage Style 2007 too! Is that the one with the woman who did her entire cottage in pink, yellow, and green? Sounds crazy, but it worked.

I admit, there are so many cottagey mags with similar names that I can't keep track. Cottage Living, Cottage Style, Country Living, etc. Maybe it's time for a consolidation.

These magazines are going down with the economy. Housing and any form of decorating are being hard hit by fall of the real-estate fake-boom. Decorating is considered a luxury now that we are all hunkering down. At least with cottage style you can pick stuff up at the flea market.

Maybe the larger names like Sunset or Southern Living will pick up the decorating slack left behind by the country shelter mags.

I hope C&B survives, even if they have to expand the advertisements.

Country Home is what is going under Marie, not Country Living. CL is my fav magazine and I'd hope they have way too big a following to stop doing it, they've been around for years and years like Southern Living, which by the way, I have enjoyed as a replacement for Cottage Living even though it is way different!

I think the sister magazine to C&B is pretty cottage-y too. Romantic Living (right? I'm really drawing a blank here on the name), or at least if you are a romantic cottage type of person. I'm considering subscribing to it too along with C&B. If my estimate/guesstimation is correct they alternate months so I'd be getting a magazine each month still. :o:p
