The hem tape reminded me of my brother's dilemna at his apartment. He has what could only be described as floor to ceiling windows in his livingroom and he's on the ground level so people can peer into his place which well annoys him. They are steel framed with large picture size on the bottom and then what I'd consider transom size on the top. He really doesn't want to cover up the top windows since that is one of the few sources of natural light in the place. To add to the problems is that there is baseboard registers under the windows about 2-3' high. There are some blinds on it that came with the place which he hates. I've suggested sheers for daytime and then some nice light blue/chocolate cotton to draw during the night when he wants some privacy. This would be fine except he can't sew (told him about the hem tape or even the glue) and he's worried about the registers.

Any ideas? I told him to put some of that mesh fabric along the bottom with the big holes that would allow for heat to pass yet give the look of normal drapes.

I get the idea that I may be dragging a sewing machine to Seattle some week and camping out in his livingroom making these darn things.:p

I wonder if you could do fancy panels on a sliding track? Ikea has them....

Another thing he could do is use those clip-on curtain rings and just get long lengths of fabric, fold the top down to make a "ruffle" at the top and create the length he's looking for, then slip the rings on a rod. I did that to create a room divider. I used a long and very pretty lace tablecloth which I didn't want to cut, so I just folded the top down and clipped the rings at the fold.

I think his biggest concern is that heater, if he doesn't go all the way to the floor it just looks funny but he's afraid of them catching on fire if against the heater register. Oh and he isn't fond of the blinds either. He pretty much can do what he wants since his the apt manager and the owner just adores him but he also doesn't want to put loads of money into it either.
