Does anyone have the new issue? The entire magazine is entertaining and informative & I especially enjoyed the article - A Trip to the Country. Lots of great pics and ideas. I look forward to the next issue!:)

Where did you find the magazine, Linn?
I live in a very rural area and I haven't seen it at any of our local stores, which is not at all surprising. Plenty of Farm and Tractor mags, but not so many home decor mags. :D I want to try to find it when I go Christmas shopping in the city.
I'm dying to see an issue!

Lynzee I got mine at Walmart - I got the last copy too - I live in a very small town (1300 ppl) and I have to drive to get mine but I really enjoyed it and I esp like that it's not just cottages but bungalows as well. There's something in there for everyone.

I picked up a copy on Saturday and have not had time to look at it yet. I'm hoping to hide away tonight and read!

Is that the one that says Winter 2008? If so it depressed me. I loved all the houses in there and it saddens me that I have no clue what mine is supposed to look like. :( I did love the article about how bad it is to mess up a bungalow or craftsman and how you'll pay in the end for the disasters you've done by "modernizing" some things. I so agree with it!!!!!;)
Aren't I one of the people who is constantly saying think twice before you paint the wood trim, pull out the windows, etc. Nice to see someone else agrees with me. :D

Chyna - there's a big Christmas tree on the front cover and says Warm and Cozy Holiday Homes. I really enjoyed that issue.
In a perfect world all the trim in a bungalow would be natural and unpainted but in our house's case we did go with the paint. Trim was missing - window pulls were broken and hubby insisted on new windows (I wasn't happy about that) but we had to compromise since he was gonna live here too;) and after the windows were installed they looked odd with what dark trim was left. I have asthma and stripping and redoing the trim ourselves wasn't an option - hiring someone to do it was out of the question as well because of the cost involved so we painted and I do like it plus it brightened it up in here - Craftsmans tend to be a bit dark inside. I think what people forget is that when the homes were first built the trim was not dark - it was natural wood and I found that out when the doors were taken down and the hardware removed - I was surprised at how light the wood had once been.

Ok, so I have a secret...you will all probably hate me after I tell you...I HATE unpainted wood trim. I mean HATE it. So, I'm probably going to craftsman bungalow hell for admitting it, but I feel better after getting that off my chest.

Cohen ya had me laughing there! Hey variety is the spice of life - if we all did the same exact thing how boring would that be? Your house your choices - it's all good;)

I looked at my magazines and I have both. :o Haven't had a chance to get thru this months issue but so far so good.
Hey while your in bungalow hell, make sure to tell the previous owners of my house how much I curse them. I could deal with the paint if it didn't have lead in it and was a boring dingy white color. ;) For the asthma part of the problem, that is why I'm using shellac. Oh yeah I'm sorta old school here. :D I also learned from my bungalow friends that not all of the house would have the unpainted trim. The public rooms were the natural/sealed wood but your more private rooms (bedrooms etc) would have been the painted trim and less quality woods too. Though compared to much that is out nowadays even that is superior. Kinda sad actually if you think of it that way.
I hear ya on missing trim. That is another reason I'm cursing those people to cottage/bungalow hell. I hope demons continually whack them with trim oh and maybe splatter them with stripping compounds. Not the safe stuff I'm using but the professional stuff I wouldnt touch with a 10-foot pole. Maybe toss door knobs at them too. Oh yeah I'm actually happy with that visual. LOL
