Hi all,

DH and I are planning on replacing our old station wagon this summer, and we've agreed to purchase a Honda. However, DH wants a Pilot and I want a CRV. We are a family of 4 (both kids under 5). The Pilot is bigger but gets worse mileage than our 9-year-old wagon. The CRV is smaller, but gets better gas mileage. We don't buy new cars, so it will probably be a 2005 or 2006. We will drive it till it falls apart. What do you all think? Anyone out there have an opinion on them?

TIA

I drive a Pilot and I really love it. We're a family of 5 (one kids is the size of a grown man) and there is plenty of seating for all of us plus 3 friends. We can fold down the back seats and fit a full sized blow up mattress for camping and it pulls my '67 Aloha camper with ease. My gas mileage is better than average.

I think you should get a used Subaru wagon :) There's room for both kids and stuff in the back, and mine averages 28 mpg even in the city (around 31 on the highway). They have great reliability and are very very safe! My hubby has a Forester and I have an Outback. His doesn't get great gas mileage b/c it's a turbo, but the non-turbo ones do.

I would get a Honda Odyssey. I love those. I have a mini van (Venture), and I love it. It seats 7, is great for hauling things (dryer, washer). Very multi purpose and has a trailer hitch.

Of the two, I would probably pick the Pilot, just because it is bigger and more options to use it. I really like the CRV's, but wouldn't want it as my only vehicle.

Thanks for the responses, ladies!

Lisa - We won't be having anymore children, which is why I think the Pilot is a bit "overkill", though I know that as ours get older and bigger, we may really want all that extra room. At 3 and almost 5, however, it will be quite awhile before they get there.

CC - I know someone else who drives a Subaru wagon and they rave about it too. I'll have to check the price difference, since that is also part of our concern.

Mac - This vehicle will not be our only car. DH drives a pickup, though is older than the wagon. Honestly, I've never been fond of minivans, though many people have raved to me about them, too, for the same reason - more space than I think we need.
