Just thought I would share with you all.....that I registered for 5 classes starting the last week of August. All 5 computer classes. Desktop Management, Access, Power Point, Speedbuilding, and Quickbooks. 3 of them are 1/2 semester classes, and 2 are only offered online. I am hoping to have my Associates completed in 1 1/2 years if all goes as planned.

Good for you, mac78! Are you taking your classes at a local college/university, or online? This is an exciting time for you, and I wish you the best of luck...it's never too late for us to learn!

We have a community college 20 miles from us. 4 classes will be on campus, 2 online. I don't know about the online ones, I am more of an inclass kind of person so I can ask questions, I always have questions. lol

That's okay - the online classes will be a new experience, and you may grow to like them more than you think you will. At least you're DOING it; I give you lots of credit (no pun intended!) :)
That is terrific! You will do wonderful-- I just know it. I work at a college and it seems the adult students are really more relaxed, good students, and great multi-taskers.
I'm really happy for you! If you need any HELP in your computer classes-let me know- I am FAR from an expert, but have taken some online- and computer applications for my degree...

Wonderful. I am always impressed with older - or non traditional students in college. That they have the gumption to go back and that they do better than traditional students.
You will do great as you have done the hardest part - made the decision to do it.

When the time gets closer, I know I will get very nervous. It is 5 comupter classes......how will I ever keep them straight?
Hi-- Acouple years ago I finished 60 credits in 18 months. Keeping it all "straight" was a challenge-
My advice- keep a GOOD calendar, a board to clip important dates, items, security codes for online classes, etc.. Also get a folder for each class- as you need this done arrange them by dates, etc...
And oh- forget about cleaning the kitchen floor while this is going on- if you have your family's support you are half way there!
Seriously- you'll do great!

When I went back about 10 years ago I sat my family down (the two youngest boys and husband) and told them what I expected from them and how things would change for me - no more cooking every night or being the one to take care of every detail. I just let them know that this was important to me and it was time I did something for me.
I think there were many nights that dinner was cold cereal - and at least the teenage boys were thrilled. It was tough - I carried a full load of 15 credits each semester and worked and things weren't always up to my standards. But you'll adjust - you'll have to!:D

This will be my second time going to college. I went for 2 years part time and completed a 1 yr certificate in December 2004. I honestly surpised myself then and did really well. I was on the Dean's List. I only took 2 classes at a time because I work about 55 hours a week as a daycare provider. My kids were just entering high school when I finished the first time. This time all three of us will be in college, that sounds so weird to say that. I know I will like it, as it gets lonely with my job working at home by myself everyday.
Here's a picture of my graduation day at University of Maryland with my granddaugther (she slept on her granddaddy's lap the whole time)....

Congratulations, Marie! I'm a big believer in adult education and in lifelong learning. You'll do fine. When I was learning new computer applications, I went out and bought the "______ for Dummies" book for each thing I was trying to learn. In my opinion, those are the best computer manuals out there because they walk you through all the baby steps that other computer manual writers assume you already know. They're worth the investment. I even bought House Buying for Dummies when I was first thinking of buying, and it helped me a lot. I think there's a whole website with the "for Dummies" books for sale. Best of luck to you. I hope everyone in your life surrounds you with love and support as you go back to school.
