Hi, I am going to be painting some items white here this weekend (if the rain stops for a minute). And white can be so hard to find the right one.
I don't like stark white as it is a bit jarring but more something creamy white without the yellowing in it. Does that make sense? Okay I like shabby chic peeling paint white. But what color is that exactly?
Do you have a fave white paint you buy? IF so please share.
I only have Lowes, Home Depot, Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore to deal with. Please help as I'd like to find a great white and stick to it from now on.
HELP....

I've got alot of BM Simply White in my kitchen and LOVE it (it's also the match for my Ikea cabinets exactly). It's nice and creamy - not stark... nice on the eyes. When it gets just a tad lighter outside I'll go take a pic.

I am a huge fan of white decor, and use different hues of white and cream all mixed together. I think shabby chic peeling paint has a tad of yellow in it.
I am using Behr "Creamy White" (from Home Depot) on my walls, ceilings, and cabinets. No yellow tones. Just a soft, scrumptious, pure cream color that looks gorgeous with white-whites.
Have fun!

Love that cabinet Heather. thanks for taking time to post it.
Whites are so hard arent' they? My dream is to have an all white, cream and beige house- BUT with 4 kids - 3 being boys and a husband it will take awhile to that comes to fruition..haha
I'll have to go get samples of those whites to see how they look.

My dream home would also be tone on tone cream and beige's, but even with the kids out of the house it seems unattainable. I have a lot of black and red accents in my rooms so I can't see me realistically going in that direction, but a girl can dream.
I am taking notes on the whites because I do prefer them to be more in the creamy direction not stark white.
Hope the rain stops for you so you can work on your projects!

Oooh, I'd like to see more of that kitchen. I love the contrast of the handles and the cabinets. More, please?

See it is replies like those that mean everyone needs to be taking pictures of their entire homes to put their "virtual" tour up on June 1st...get those kitchen pictures done Heather.
I actually did my kitchen pics today as the kitchen was totally clean and clutter free- that barely never happens.

Memmey uses Zinsser primer in white and her house looks pretty good. I don't think it comes out a bright white but more of an antiqued white.

I've heard very good things both word-of-mouth and from salespeople about the Zinsser primer. Of course, this is after I used another brand.

We used Zissner's primer on our kitchen and bedroom cabinets, and it is stinky but works well!!

Zinsser is awesome - you don't have to sand it!!
I also used Zinsser in my bathroom - it was a "mold and mildew proof interior paint" and I had it tinted grey to cover up a real bad faux finish job I did. It covered it VERY WELL and only one coat too - excellent stuff!

Oh it's only because I cleaned it today... Don't usually do it on a Monday but my sister "babysat" and Junior had an accident in his pants - partially my fault because I gave him licorice - had to tiptoe around in there yesterday lemme tell ya... But you're welcome.

Are you guys saying you use the Zinseer primer as paint?

I had the same question as Annielinz- are you using the zinser as the paint?

We used it as primer under oil paint, and we did sand it b/c we wanted our cabinets to be really smooth. It sands like glass!!

Mem uses it as paint, she swears by it. She may hop in here someday and tell you so. ;):p:p

We used Zinser primer on my mom's kitchen walls on Saturday. It does cover very nicely. It seems to be a bit thicker than other primers. Does stink though.
Great bathroom pic. I love the mirror.

Zinsser is the best! I wouldn't use anything else. I use it as a primer though and not a finish coat.
Believe it or not, the only paint I use is from Walmart. The Color Place is the name on the can and "White" is the color. I always add drops of black paint to mine, which a friend who is a painter told me would keep it from yellowing, and it gives me a very creamy white.
Love your bathroom, Heather!

Yup, I used it like paint. The can says:
Zinsser Perma-White (but I had it tinted...)
Mould & Mildew-Proof Interior Paint
~ Self-priming
~ Scrubbable
~ Stain resistant

Where's Ms. Memmey???? She uses it as paint for all her furniture- which is beautiful!!!
Maybe Ms. Memmey herself may check in and confirm this!

Tammy did you settle on a white? Did you get your painting done?
Lynzee that's a good tip about adding in a few drops of black - thanks!

Heather -
Also going to paint my bath grey - yours looks like the perfect color. Who makes it and what color? I've already bought my Behr paint but just in case it isn't the "right" grey!!!

Hey Heather,
I got some painting done..the kids seem to be taking my time up..dang them :) I got the zinser like you said and I like it. I initially bought the spray paint one so I could do smalls...and I love that it has a kind of chalky appearance - not a shine at all. I do think it may be too white so was wondering how do you get yours tinted? Do you tell them to add so many drops of black? I also picked up a Valspar color - Cream Delight. It is nice maybe a little too yellow but I liked it.
I got the wooden things painted and put together - pedestals, a wooden lamp painted white, an old iron floor lamp that had seen much better days painted white and all my iron hooks for my bath painted.
I was hoping to post pictures today but instead went shopping with the girls: mom, sister and 4 year old daughter. Oh well. I will work hard to post pics tomorrow.
I did decide on a color for the dining room..I painted my bedroom this past weekend a Behr color - cup of cocoa - and love it. So, it is a neutral and I figure I want to go that route this time. Not as much color on the walls so I can change things up a bit in different seasons. Use my colors as my accents instead of the walls. I always wanted to do that just had a hard time finding a neutral I liked.
well I have rambled on and on..I'll have to take pics of my tjmaxx and tuesday morning goodies I got today - woo hoo

Tammy it was Lynzee who said that she added a few drops of black to the white to prevent it from yellowing. I had my tin tinted grey at the store.

Thanks, Heather! Will be painting the bath this weekend and if my paint isn't the "right" color, I'll be looking for yours.
