Here's a recent picture of the lake house. We'll paint it a dark brown with green trim and a red door. The recessed area will be decked and have twig furniture and huge lantern sconces. My husband and I are planning to salvage some lumber from our old chicken house and make shutters.

Oh, Lisa, it'll be a joy to "cottage it up" on that house...so sweet!
I like your color choices too.
Where do you find twig furniture? I'm still beating myself up from about 10 years ago when I passed by a twig chair at a flea market, then reconsidered, and when I went back, someone had it in her hands!

I'm going two routes with the twig furniture ~ I'm looking on Craig's List and I'm trying to figure out how to use the pile of logs and twigs on the property. Right now, free or cheap is a must.

It's brand new?! I thought it would be an old place! No matter, it will be a cottage when you are finished. I'd love to come help!:)

Nope, this is the place we've been building for over a year. My house in town is an oldie. I'll put you to work as a shopping buddy if you're still coming out this summer!

Hehe! This place is a whopping $40 a square foot to build (in an area where most houses are $150 + a square foot), so you can imagine how bare bones it will be. It'll be fun to add character.

What's inside, Lisa S? Are you workin' with the bare bones?

That will be so nice when done. That is quite the hill. Is there a deck on the other side?

Right now it's bare bones. The builder is still in the process of putting up the drywall, cabinets, sinks... We opted to have them leave the carpet out (wet mountain range and allergies makes me think carpet would be a bad idea!). I found some manufactured wood flooring at Ikea about a year ago and bought it. It was on sale for .17 cents a square foot. We'll have to lay it ourselves, but it'll be much nicer.
Someday I'd like a deck out back. We have a little peek of the lake and it would be lovely to spend a lot of time out there. I altered the plans a bit ~ replacing a garage with and area for a future screened in porch. You can tell my cottage sensibilities are solidly in place, right?

where is this lake house and how close to the lake are you?

The lake is in the coast mountain range near Astoria and the house is situated less than a block away.

Lisa - sounds like your cottage is in a gorgeous location! Please post pics as the inside takes shape. How wonderful to have your own cottage at the lake.:)

I'm posting the "during" pictures of the lake house. Again, not at all fancy, but very fun!

I love all the windows! You are going to have some great views. I can't wait to see the progress as it comes along!
And you guys are so smart to go the $40 a square foot route~you won't ever regret it. 'Bare bone' has to be the most fun to work with~it will make it truly your home, not like everyone else's.

Thanks! It feels like a tree house when you walk in.
I have a folder full of ideas that I can't wait to implement. I wish I could afford every great idea I have, but such is life. I want to do all kinds of fun and inexpensive things too ~ like build a coffee table from the birch tree that was cut down from the construction...

Ooooo, how exciting!!! Your first pic looks almost identical to my tiny kitchen area - what room will this be?

Really, it's just as well that you can't. It's like rich people being able to buy everything they see...we appreciate what we have because we CAN'T have it all!
I can just imagine sitting there, with a nice iced tea, and looking out of those wonderful windows! It's coming along great...:)

Zu ~ that room will be the kitchen.
I think this should be the location of our future Cottage Ladies First Annual Get Away. Come on over!

Uh-HUH! Utilizing steely Sherlock Holmes skills, keen reason by deduction, I discovered that you named the .jpg "futurekitchen"!!!
I doubt I'd be able to make it to the future Cottage Ladies First Annual Get Away unless it is a couple years from now. We have purchased our solar panels and there isn't any traveling $$$ in the budget. :( Gotta buy a lottery ticket!

It's the small print and our old eyes...
Good for you for getting solar panels. Tell me what you think of them.

I think they look pretty good in their boxes leaning up inside the shed. Hubby needs to weld brackets, then we'll put them in place and hook them up. I'll let you know how they work out. ~ Zu
