Hi everyone! I am new here. I live in Norco, CA, otherwise known as Horsetown USA. I live in a small 1950 one-story ranch that used to be an egg ranch. Over the years we have lived there, I have had many people drive up and honk their horn and when I go outside, they want to buy eggs. Small, under a 1000 feet on 3/4 of an acre. We are right on the horsetrail, which is interesting and fun at the same time. Hubs and I have remodeled the house completely over the past few years. Put in all wood flooring, along with a vintage kitchen with a 1950 Wedgewood stove. The only thing I would like to add is a sleeping porch off our master bedroom, but have yet to convince hubs. He is a west coast guy and just does not get the concept of sleeping "outside". I love anything vintage and love to use and reuse and repurpose stuff. We have a saying here in Norco "junk goes from one house to another". Everyone puts out what they don't want anymore on the horsetrail every Sunday. I found an amazing antique dresser that I now have in my kitchen as my coffee station, and an old iron gate that I hung over my stove for a pot rack. I am so happy I found this forum. I love the magazine, so I know I will love the forum:)

Beverly, welcome.
This is a wonderful and helpful group here.
Would love to see pictures of your charming home. I like the idea of people putting out their unwanted stuff, great recycling idea :D

Welcome, Beverly...you sound like our kind o' gal! I agree with annielinz...it's such a terrific idea that people put stuff out to "swap". What happens if no one takes it? You all could wind up with a giant landfill! :D

Hi vintage girl~welcome to the forum! Your home sounds so wonderful. I'd love to see pictures. I've been sitting here 'picturing' your coffee station~what a neat idea:)! You're so lucky to be able to go to go to Sunday swaps.
I also like your idea of a sleeping porch. My grandparents had one and it was used often. Maybe you can eventually convince your hubby:).

What a great welcome. Thanks so much:) The stuff that is put out and not taken, just sits there until it is. That can sometimes be an issue if people put out a lot of stuff, but normally it goes, or the garbage man takes it on Mondays. I have found some amazing things. I found this wonderful six foot long bench that I used as seating at my dining room table. I covered it down the center of the bench with an old floral rug that was on the horsetrail also. What is so funny is that my neighbor across the street grabs all my stuff that I put out. We joke that if I get bored with my house, I can move across the street to my "other house". Here is a link to my vintage kitchen and some of my other great finds in my dining room and living room. You can see the dresser that I repurposed as my coffee station. I did not like the original paint (black milkwash), so I just rubbed on some blue paint and I think it turned out great.

Welcome Vintage Girl!
I googled Egg House and got some crazy things. Love your kitchen.
I put things out on my road at the end of the driveway. No matter what, the stuff is gone fast!!

Thanks for showing us your album, Beverly...great stuff in your rooms!
I'm also planning on a red (and white) kitchen...have been tracking down red Formica, for starters, for the counters.
When I see wonderful photos like yours and those of the other ladies on this forum, I wonder why some people like boring, PLAIN designer rooms. There's nothing to look at!

Great pictures, Beverly. Thanks for joining us here. I think you'll like it!
I put stuff out on our street all the time and it's usually taken in a matter of minutes. I like the idea of our old stuff going to a new home. And think of the stories we're providing: "yeah, I found this on the side of the road".
I'm also a scrounger from way back. I once hauled 10 van loads of bricks from an old chimney that the owners didn't want. That was backbreaking!

Beverly, welcome to the forum. I love your pictures, especially the chickens! I have exactly the same chandelier in my dining room that you have in your kitchen. Isn't it a wonderful piece? I adore the way it sparkles when the light's on. Your home looks so cozy and comfortable!

Welcome Beverly,
What a great addition to the group of ladies on here.
I have a screen porch on the back of the house and believe me there are days I can go out there- crawl on the thick cushioned iron sofa and just fall asleep.
In our old house next door it had the portico turned into a screen porch as it was made so narrow you could only park a mini cooper in it and open the door. Anyway, when I was pregnant with my daughter my son then 2 and I would lay on the porch on our iron sofa and take our afternoon naps.
Ahhh I miss those days.
Anyway glad to have you here...your swap stuff sounds like fun.
We also do the same thing- we have the "claw" truck come from the city every Wednesday to pick up bulk trash - which is anything that doesn't fit into the trash can..and we all put stuff out - but then a neighbor picks it up. We call it rotating our trash ..hahaha
