Don't you hate it when you tell the paint store what paint you want then get it home to do the second coat and they did it wrong? I should have known as the paint guy who usually mixes my paint at H.D. wasn't there and the girl looked quite confused..
she used the wrong base to mix it so thus it does not match at all.
I am ready to finish today but noooo I get to go back to HD tonight when hubby gets home from work and get the right stuff.
Now it says non-returnable on it but believe me they better take the 2 gallons back and give me the right stuff - it was her mistake..
dang it now I'll just have to waste time in blogland :)

Oh Tammy, I would be sooo ticked off about that! I'm so sorry for your frustration and I hope all goes well with the return. Do you have the lid from the previous can to prove the wrong base was used? Enjoy your free time today:).

We had a paint fiasco today too! DH drove over an HOUR to a store that carries Aura paint. I had specifically been instructed to not call my order in ahead of time, and when he arrived at the store this am, their tinter was broken. So 2 hour round trip and no friggin paint

Oh, boy...I'm glad I didn't have any thoughts of painting today...it seemed like a BAD PAINT DAY!
Yarborough, I find the key is to just keep your cool and explain what happened. This was not a case where you changed your mind about the color - you were given the wrong paint.
And Cohen Cottage, how ridiculously annoying that the tinter was broken! I guess, whether or not they like you calling, you'd better call to make sure that all systems are GO at the store. Your time is valuable!! Zheesh...

Paint is taken care of..thankfully the normal guy that waits on me was there and he said - well of course this won't work like the other one..I'll redo it not a problem. Then he took the other stuff to Oops it- hubby says i should have bought it back at oops to do other rooms..nahhh
then because the kids made me put on a bathing suit and take them to the pool today and the paint fiasco, I decided to shop after home depot..hit the new ollies that opened up and got some cool stuff. love big salvage stores that buy stuff from stores not needing it then selling it cheap.
then i hit tjmaxx and hit the motherload. their clearance section was full of stuff today..got all the white dishes - plates they had. the same ones were at marshalls the other day but not marked down..got lots of other goodies there too.
all and all it was an okay day...there are a few yardsales tomorrow - we'll see if I can get up early enough to hit some..
what are you all up to tomorrow and this weekend?

Tammy I'd love to spend a day shopping with you!
This weekend I'm attacking the exterior of the house. We've got the paint all ready (grey, remember? The other thread about going grey but ended up being about circut machines...) I'm having problems getting help though! I've asked every teenage kid I know to come over powerwashing and get paid for it. All the kids have 'plans' this weekend (going to the lake, etc.) I dunno, I just need the house powerwashed and then I can get going on the areas that need scrubbing and then paint! The weather has just been fantastic here too - I want to take advantage of it!
Happy painting gals!

The tinter finally is back up and running, so my mom was very very nice and picked the paint up for us (she lives there) and brought it to us! I've got dog training appointments all day, but DH is outside scrubbing the house with a soft brush on a pole and some special cleaner. It was DIRTY!! He's having to scrub small sections, rinse, rinse the brush, and then move on...taking a long time. Maybe we should bathe the house more than once every two years?!
Unfortunately, he didn't realize you needed to wait 2 days after washing before painting, so he won't be able to start painting until Monday. He had been planning on starting tomorrow morning.

Too bad you didn't buy/rent a power washer...he'd be done in no time! (And if you do it every two years, or more, it'd be well worth it.

He decided that he didn't want to risk blasting the paint off with the pressure washer, but believe me, I suggested it!! He's being a cranky a$$ right now...

Hey CohenCottage! So, you're painting your exterior then? What colour are you going with?
I powerwashed all day yesterday and blasted off loose bits of old paint - what a job. There's still flakes which I can pick off with my fingernail so now I don't know what to do! I've called in the family members today to give me advice, to scrub, or to sand - I dunno!
I found though with the powerwasher (and I'm NO expert) you can adjust the amount of pressure. Parts of our house didn't have the chips so it just needed washing and it did a great job without taking paint off.
I'm just itching to paint - this part is a DRAG!

Wow, Heather, you did a lot of work! We aren't painting our entire exterior, just the crawlspace, front porch, and window frames. The front door is currently just stained, but we are going to paint it a color too. Now that the house is all clean, I'm seeing places that didn't get completely clean that are begging to be repainted. We found a telescoping brush at Lowe's that did a great job getting all the gunk off. It also got loose paint flakes off in a few spots too. Good luck!!

Oh wow Heather! You did an incredible amount of work. I have no suggestions, but to get a good adhesion I'm thinking sanding after the house dries really well and lots of primer. I agree prepping is a drag, but so worth it in the long run with getting a good finish coat. We've always painted our own house but last year --or was it 2 years ago--this old mind forgets:rolleyes:, anyway we hired out. Too many years of DIY painting had taken its toll. We have a wood front and the rest is stucco, they did a great job both in prep and the finished project.
I wish you luck, that is going to be quite an undertaking, but be patient for the best results.....I speak from experience here:p

Oh thank you Cohen Cottage and Annielinz for the encouragement.
The house looks so "ugly" right now and I want to get it painted and looking perfect right away but I know that the prep part is very important.

Actually, I was thinking that the brown and white splotchy on your house looked cool like a birds egg or something, but I know what you mean.
I forgot to tell y'all that we are painting all the black parts 'texas leather' (a gray brown) so that our pumpkin trim and white siding don't look like Halloween anymore. The front door is going to be 'grasshopper' green!

The husband painted ALL of the crawl space yesterday!!! I have to give him credit, he did the entire thing by hand with a brush! It looks great, and we can't wait to finish the porch and windows. Now we are wondering why in the heck it took us 2.5 years to get around to doing this when it was the first thing we wanted to do when we bought the house. It really hasn't been that bad so far!
He is doing the porch and posts today, and I will probably do the windows on Sat. b/c I'm a better detail painter than he is. We will also do the interior and exterior of the front and back doors on Sat.
Also, we are using the Benjamin Moore Aura exterior paint for everything except the porch floor, and it is the best paint EVER!! Went on so easily and it covered black in ONE COAT!! Can you believe it??:eek:Totally worth the extra price.
