My new little cottage has a flag pole by the front door. The current American flag hanging on the pole appears a bit tattered. I imagine I will let a local boy scout troop take care of it in a patriotic manner. I also imagine I will obtain a healthier American flag in the near future. My husband will probably want a flag for our alma-mater (sp?) during football season next year. However, I can see myself getting a little "flag-happy" without even trying. I was just curious if any of you utilize decorative flags. I found some pretty birds and flowers; however, my favorite at this time are the artsy ones (Van Gogh Iris and Saturday Evening Post Santa Claus). So, I was just seeking some feedback. On our old forum, I would have placed this under the "Help Me Find" section ... I want something cottage-quirky without being country ... I never EVER thought I would be decoratorey enough to feel the need to spruce-up my little flag pole. Home ownership is going to have lots of unique costs isn't it?
When we purchased our little beach cottage someone gave us a "Welcome to Fall" flag and pole. I put it on the back porch because that's where everyone enters the house.
I think flags are charming and of course displaying the American flag is very nice too!

When Daisy Kingdom (the parent company to the craft line, but here in town it was a very high end fabric company) closed, they sold their flags for $1 a piece. I bought a few and got hooked.
Now, I seem to find them at garage sales and thrift stores every where I go.
1 dollar a piece! What a bargain! Great find.

I am a little jealous of the $1.00 per flag thing; however, I'll get over it. I found a couple of great websites in my quick searches. I see this flag thing as becoming a problem pretty quickly. First, I will have a flag for each season. Then, I'll have a flag for each holiday. Without even trying, I could need an entire closet for flag hanging. In all seriousness, while I think the "Santa" flag is adorable, I believe I should probably stick with a general winter-welcome flag as my first flag purchase. This will keep me "out-of-trouble" so-to-speak until it is time to go gardening crazy. I doubt I will have trouble finding pretty floral flags ... I'll want to change them weekly ... or worse, I'll forget and be the crazy person who leaves up the snowman flag until May because I get so busy at work. (Just kidding ... but it could be something fun to "hunt-for" over time.) Do you have a favorite flag you look forward to putting up each year?

I think I like our fall flag the most. Miss Ruby, pm me your address and I'll send you one of my dollar flags as a house warming gift!
We use to have an American Flag-but that's gone now. I love my "Welcome to Fall" flag at our beach house- which reminds me---I have to replace it.
I like Rubyslippers "Winter" theme thought about a flag...

I have had good luck locating such flags by going online and using Google to search for "garden flags." There are lots of online sites that sell garden flags of all varieties. You can find some great deals on clearance items, if you don't buying buying a Halloween flag for next year at Christmastime. Most sites have a clearance or markdown area, if you look for it. I am still looking for a garden flag with a bicycle/bicycling theme, so if you find any during your search, let me know!

I have a little flag pole and have succumbed to putting up a decorative flag or two . I try to pick ones that'll get me thru a few seasons.
For the fall I have pumpkins, currently I have a red one with a snowflake which will get me thru January. In the summer I have one with flip-flops but my fav is one with red geraniums on it, its the one plant I can grow without much attention.

I love garden flags, but they are so hard to find. I started to look on ebay they have every flag that you could think of at great prices.
Good luck to you.
