I know you are a Zinsser fan so I was wondering if you've ever watered down your Zinsser to make a white wash paint effect?
I'm thinking about a project and I need bionic paint, like to stick on veneer, but I would like it more beachy than cottagey - know what I mean? Let a hint of the oak veneer poke though.
Thank you!

I know you can water down paint but it would seem to me if you watered down primer it would lose its effect to adhere well. Does that make sense? Like lose it stickability. I like that choice of a word or not? :)
Last year I printed out painting instructions from a antique shop, thrift shop... AND FOR THE LIFE OF me...I can't remember the shop-except it was from the CL forum...so someone may chip in.
Painting Directions: (Directions exactly as I printed them off....)
"When we paint our cupboards, we use Walmart brand semi-gloss COUNTRY WHITE and ANTIQUE WHITE paint.
We paint the cupboard with Country White and then we dry brush the Antique White over it to give it a two toned look. Or you can paint it Antique White and dry brush Country White over it.
When you dry brush, you just dip your brush in the paint and scrape it off. And then just lightly brush over the cupboard so it's not solid."
I have not used the Zinner primer techinque that Memmey's beautiful pieces have been painted with....where's MEMMEY??????????????

Weeelllll, I did it like 10 minutes ago. It's a mirror frame I've been goofing around with... I tried the crackle paint look with white glue AND IT DIDN'T WORK I peeled it all off with my fingernail. I hope my Zinsser white wash paint job works! I'm not going to peek at it until it dries.....
Heather---I haven't heard of the "glue" techinque before. I have used crackle paint on a mirror that turned out awesome. You paint it the color of your choice, then apply the crackle paint... ;)

Wasn't that Ann at GreenOaks in Indiana?
I've never tried watering Zinsser primer down, but have used it to drybrush several things that I wanted to distress and it worked quite well. I like doing it that way because I can control exactly how much paint I want.

Gigi apparently the crackle paint you buy is just white glue anyways.
I think I used the wrong paint for the first coat as that didn't stick to the frame, oh well!
Heather- I didn't know that about crackle paint/glue- very interesting. I can see that now because the crackle paint was clear, etc...
Yes! I think you're right--- Ann at GreenOaks in Indiana! Thanks

I've used glue to crackle and it works pretty well--especially hyde glue. I usually put on a base coat and let it dry. After that, I brush on glue, let it dry about 5-10 minutes (don't let it get too dry), and them put on my top coat and it starts crackling. You can only brush once in one direction on top of the glue or it messes up the crackle.
