What was this for specifically? I suppose it was used in the kitchen as a roasting pan? It's like 17 inches long and has a hole in it (to hang it up?). I'm not sure how I could use it as a decoration but I like it!

Perhaps it was a dish pan.

Heather - I was thinking dishpan also - definitely a hole for hanging. Is that a floral decoration on the side of the pan? I wonder how old it is?

Yes you all you are right. They are dishpans. Most people use them now as:
fruitbowls, or as insert bowls on potting benches. It is enamel ware and some of it is quite spendy to buy. The coffee pots are hard to find.

Now if you find a bucket that is more roundish with a handle on it and a top - well that is a chamber pot- or pee pot as some call it.

I plant in them all the time...they do well with succulents and also drought tolerant plants as you don't water too often as there is no hole unless gosh forbig you drill one :)

I have one just like that (without the hole), Heather! It was my grandmother's. She used it in her kitchen to wash dishes in--she put it inside of her sink. She said it used less water than filling her sink. I have several others and use them as planters.

Heather---OMGoodness... I have the same bowl (well almost), but mine doesn't have the pretty blue embelm on the front.

I never knew it was a dishing washing bowl. Mine has the red trim, and just a bit of wear on the bottom. I love Rosemary's idea of using it as a planter ;)

It doesn't have an emblem on the front of it.. it is just gunk.
I kinda thought it was a dishpan (or a roasting pan), so thanks for your input!

No emblem then it's junk? That's why I think I'll use it as a planter... :)

No GUNK, not JUNK - ya know like I haven't really cleaned it up completely after rescuing it from the depths of the basement.

Gunk or no gunk - it's great Heather. Do you have any idea how old it is?

I would love to have one of those, Heather! I actually use a dishpan when I'm washing dishes.

I have one of those chamber pots that Tammy mentioned.
