I swear to all of you, I need a personal assistant to remind me of my little projects I'd like to do. Went to a couple of garage sales Saturday and looked at a stack of tile with cutesy bugs on them. I passed them up because I didn't want cutesy bugs as my backsplash. Was thinking of all the little projects I'd like to get done tonight once I get home from work and it hits me. I could have Modge Podged the rose decals over the bugs!!!!:o:rolleyes: I've been looking for tiles to put up as the backsplash to cover that awful counter material they took all the way up the wall to the bottom of the cupboards.

sigh, I swear I need to just leave everyone home and just think carefully when I'm at these things! I also didn't think I had enough money on me. D*mn it!!! :o

Chyna - I do the same thing----should have, could have, darn I should have purchased it! Just think of the next project and scan each store twice. Alot of times I do a quick scan then go back and take my time--- really I need the extra time for the ol' brain to start working :D

I do this all the time! It is so frustrating when I realize I really could have used it and actually had it in my hand but didn't buy it!

I think of ChapterTwo's advice when I go into the thrift store now. PICK IT UP and carry it around while you decide. People shop our local thrift with carts full, so hey, maybe grab a cart or bring a box to garage sales and load it up while you decide.

Sorry the bug tiles got away, Chyna.

Thanks, Zu...glad I helped! :)

And still...I made a mistake two weeks ago. We went to a town wide yard sale...yeah, believe me - it boggles the mind! The trouble is that there are so many great places that you can really only go through each ONCE, or you'll not get to see that many individual sales.

Anyway, I got a rip roarin' start, buying a bunch of old things (including a Madame Alexander doll for $1, and I didn't even know that's what she was!)...So then as I was going on, I was sort of telling myself to SLOW DOWN, or I'd be filling up my entire car.

I saw a neat looking fan (resin, I think) which was offered for $5, and the seller accepted $3, and I figured I will paint that and put it in front of the fake fireplace in my "new to me" house...
Then about two stops later, I saw a wonderful fireplace screen, which I would have liked better, for in front of the fireplace, also for $3. But my mind was spinning at this point and I told myself it would be stupid to buy that, since I just bought the fan. Despite my friend's urging, I left the screen there. :(

Now I could kick myself!
Soooo, as you see, ZuZu, I make mistakes too.

Okay for me with 4 kids and usually the two smaller ones in tow, I get frazzled and scatterbrained quickly. So, I have to use my anal type A organizational brain to help me out in these situations. I have a small notebook that goes EVERYWHERE with me. It has pages in it of each room in the house with measurments of windows, open spaces that I'd like something to go into etc..then on each room I have notations of things I'd like for the room or things I am looking for for projects. I tell you if I didn't have this I'd never remember stuff.

Tammy, that's EXACTLY what I do - one end of my notebook is measurements and "things to look out for" etc. and the other (boring) end is the ole' grocery list. I also keep a ziplock in my purse with all the paint chips for each room and fabric swatches for curtains, pillows, and linens, and an extra diaper. Do you?

Heather you and I must be twins..I have a ring of index cards that I have my paint swatches taped to and then I stapled a portion of the index card to the fabric swatches and hooked them to the ring..so my own personaly designers swatch ring..haha

guess we are waaayyyy to organized you think ? :o

I should totally put my paint swatches on a ring! They are floating loose in my purse right now, but that would be much more orderly...

OH no my anal organizational crap is rubbing off..

Don't worry, I'm OCD anyway so you aren't turning me to the dark side...I'm already there.

Oh you organized ladies put me to shame, great ideas.

I tell you there is not much I regret when I go to our thrift stores out here. Nothing but a lot of overpriced cr@p.
I'm hoping this summer while I'm off to do a little more exploring at some other towns near me and maybe hit some garage sales and flea markets. I want to find some of the cool things y'all find. :)

It's funny...for me, part of the joy of this style of decorating is disorganized decorating! I have the paint colors in my head and I just sort of wing it...I don't want things to be so "matchy matchy". But to each, her own. Whatever WORKS! :)

Me, too:D! And I agree with 'whatever works'--wouldn't it be boring if we were all alike?

I do the ziplock thing with all the swatches also!!! But I love the idea of keeping measurements and "wants" in a notebook. I could put all of this on my itouch - since it goes everywhere with me!!

I'll see something and then wonder what I would do with it - get home without buying it and then live to regret that mistake (again!!). If I just had it down someplace - well then it wouldn't be as likely that I'd forget what I was looking for!!!

It sure would be boring! Our differences bring some spice to these forums too!

I just read, in some Flea Market magazine, that if you are drawn to something, you should buy it, even if you don't know where you will put it (I think this rules out HUGE furniture and expensive antiques, though!). You will find a place...;)

I think that would be dangerous if you have a small house too! We would run out of room in a heartbeat. If we only had a basement or outbuilding...

Chapter two.-

I am a firm believer that items that are able to talk to you should go home with you. :) I hear items talk all the time and I get them not knowing where they will go until I get them home and find the exact place for them.

But I also feel it is wise for me at least to have my notes and colors because sometimes something might feel great but it will not match a dang thing I have so I would be spending money on something that would go to a yardsale. just me though.

My paint chips are in the "House In Progess" photo albums I started when we bought the house. Good thing too because a few of the paint colors have mysteriously been discontinued or just forgotten. I'm still perplexed on how Lowes can forget a color from a line they carried not long ago and tell me they never had it. It that is true then I think they owe me some cash for at least 4gals of paint.

If I had been there with just the dd then things would have been fine but to my great delight my dh was along too and sitting in the car with the a/c on complaining about the dog food getting hot. The back seat was down on one side, I think the trunk was being cooled too. Now it wasn't a total loss, they were packing up and just gave me three small throw pillows and a pillow cover (med sized) for free and sold me the other stuff for cheap. then I walked across the street to their neighbors sale and picked up a tropical print purse for this summer, a broomstick skirt, a water bottle (pink ribbon) and three games that my dd has been bugging me ot play. One is for Warner Brothers and the other is Disney part 2. The warner bros is tough by the way. It is just the one that got away that irritates me. :o
