My family and I are celebrating pre-Christmas with a week at Disneyland. We're staying at the Grand Californian, which is a tribute to the National Park lodges of our country.

We went to Mommy-and-Daddy Disneyland today: The Gamble House in Pasadena. We took a guided tour that pointed out the finer points of the Arts and Crafts construction of the home. While the house would not be considered a bungalow nor a cottage, it was an amazing experience. Both DH and I felt completly at home on the sleeping porches (as in three!) the kitchen, the great room, and the servants' eating area off the kitchen. What a dream come true!

And as a side note, it is around 60 degrees here. Currently, in Western Washington, it is 15 degrees and snowing. I just e-mailed our neighbors and they are all snowed in. VERY unusual for our area!

Just thought I'd share! I'll try to post some pictures (of the exterior) when we return home.

Hope you are all well!

Shelley,

Have a safe and wonderful journey!

I love sleeping porches. A smart invention for places like the Pacific Northwest. We typically have only a week or two of temps above 90 degrees in the summer and it makes no sense to have air conditioning. A sleeping porch would be perfect.

It's 20 degrees out right now and we've got about seven inches of snow out there. I'm making potato soup and invited some friends over to play dominoes. Gosh, I love this weather. What a special treat for us!

Lisa, potato soup sounds perfect!

I just talked to my mom, who lives around 30 minutes from us, and they have 11 inches of snow! So not like our neck of the woods!

Stay warm and enjoy!

We're still getting skiffs of snow here and yet the weather people tells us we aren't even close to the records of lows. It is a grand 5 degrees! That is actually a heat wave as of late. :p Enjoy that sun and heat, you'll have ot return sometime.
