I just passed a nice hour with the new issue of C&B. I enjoyed the article about the Aladdin Bungalows, the eye-popping makeover of Chateau Vin-Mer, the potting table makeover in Reader Scrapbook, and (especially) Hillary Black's article on porches. It was nice to see so many interpretations of what constitutes a porch and so many ideas for decorating and using a space to make it porch-like even if it isn't a "real" porch. In the picture on page 66 there is a rug that I just fell in love with. Wow! This was a fun issue.

Good Morning Everyone, :)
It`s out already?? I have been checking our book stores and Wally World. I haven`t seen the new one yet. Now you got me all excited to get my copy. :bouncing:
I can`t wait to see what new ideas they will plant in to my head, so I can add them to my ``Hunny Do List.`` :D ;)
Enjoy the day.
Hugs,
Linda :)

Oh, Tammy, I'm with you on missing CL and CH! Truly, every time I get a new home magazine it is like a little treasure. I wait until I have time to get lost in it and then re-read it. A few months ago I started cutting out pages that had info or rooms that I wanted to hang on to and started adding them to binders.
And I have hung on to all the CH holiday issues and ALL the CL issues. Just can't seem to part with them. :(

New issue? When when when? The current issue is supposed to be displayed "until July 20" so I knew not to look for the new one for at least a week. Do subscribers get them first?

I miss our CL too. :( I do seem to being able to supplement though with our publications. :D And I'm missing ME Home too, not sure why. It was turning into Better Homes and Gardens, in other words rather faceless among all the others very similar to it. Think I just miss Mary.

Has anyone noticed all the special publications of Southern Living? They seem to be changing a bit..wonder if it is because the editor is from our beloved Cottage Living?
I got their top easy redo's and it has a lot of the stuff from the old
Cottage Living magazine- it is a keeper.

Hi Ladies, :)
(sigh) I miss our Cottage Living too! Yarborough, I will check out Southern Living. The last time I looked at it, I wasn`t thrilled at all. Maybe you are right, and our old Cottage Living editor is breathing new life in to it?
I am off to Barnes and Noble to see if the new C&B is out yet. It wasn`t last week when I had checked. I hope C&B knows what a dedicated reader I am. I drive a half hour away to purchase it. :)
Enjoy the evening everyone!
Hugs,
Linda :)

Good evening ladies,
Just found the new issue of C&B on the newsstand at Wally*World today. I haven't had time to read it yet...it's the kind of magazine where I clean the house first, sit down in the sun with a cup of tea, and enjoy. It's an event. :D
C&B must be selling well, because my Wally seems to stock about a dozen of them, and they are always gone pretty fast.
For those looking for it, it's got another DOOR on the cover. :p
Oh, and I HAVE noticed that Southern Living(?) and a couple other home magazines are putting out oocasional Special decorating issues. They must be picking up the slack for the magazines that folded. And why not? I don't mind a $10 issue if it consolidates all the decorating in one issue with few ads. That's the nice thing about C&B. Each issue of C&B is a mini version of the special issues. There is very little of the junk that clogs other magazines. With C&B, I don't have hunt for anything.
I was just looking at an issue of Sunset all about gardening, and all the good stuff was hidden away somehow. I didn't even want to cut anything out of it.

I'm in love with the porches! I got mine well over a week ago and still haven't made it thru yet. Too much going on around my house. :(

I thought you might enjoy seeing the August / September issue cover. The magazine just hit newsstands yesterday 7/21 (my brother Chuck's 40th birthday -- !) but subscribers may have received it earlier.
Let us know your thoughts!
Thanks,
Hillary

Wow, even if I didn't know that magazine - that cover would have me picking it up for sure!
I'm off to get my copy too! I LOVE this magazine!
Nice job Hillary.

the thing I love about this cover . . . it's a beach house - in August! Even in September it is still warm in most places (even cold Wisconsin). Look at the covers of many magazines and you'd think winter was around the corner! For those of you who live in warm climates maybe you look forward to cooler weather (and any sign, even a magazine cover!) BUT for those of us that have such short summers, it is just a reminder of the depressing weather to come.
So I applaud C&B for not showing Santa on the August/September cover! It is a beautiful cover and I"ll go find it this weekend.

What a beautiful cover. I just started buying C&B a few months ago. Not sure why I did not discover it sooner. Hubs probably hid it when we went into Lowes or Wally World;) That cover is fantastic. What a great porch. I love the colors. I just redid my vintage kitchen, so I am looking forward to that article, to get more tips and ideas to add to my kitchen.:)

Are there different covers? I swear mine looks different than that (now I'll have to remember to check when I go home tonight:D).

I enjoyed the story that went with that picture. The color of the walls has in a part of the room's history. I'm a big believer in how love, family and home intermingle ~ this story was a testament to that thought. Great issue, Hillary.

Can't wait to see it. But have to say the vintage kitchen makeover sort of scares me but then it could be all the kitchen makeover juju that has been happening on here :)

The kitchen makeover is actually quite nice, if a bit too yellow for my taste. The only fault is that there seems to be no window. :( Otherwise, I love the facade of the house.
I've been through the issue. I really like the green direction the magazine is going. It's not the green of new solar panels and hippe yurt houses. It's a lot more about reusing and recycling. I love the sidebar about reclaimed wood. I also love the idea of living smaller.
I also like the C&B is showcasing different parts of the country, not just the tradtional bungalows in Califonia. You can have cottages in any state and any climate -- this time it's the Carolinas. Can I live in the house on page 58?
