I usually make a lot of decorations, but this year I just made some cinnamon/applesacue ornaments. I 'aged' them with antique white paint, letting lots of cinnamon show through. After they were painted, I put a few coats of glue/water mixture on them to seal the fronts and make them a little stronger. I put them on a little tree in my kitchen window and we also put a few on a tree out on the porch. I didn't take a picture of that tree, as it doesn't look very good--the cats keep climbing it and knocking it over!

Absolutely beautiful! You're so creative. Did you use a mold?

Thank you Lisa and Lynzee. I used some of my Twelve Days of Christmas cookie cutters for them. Next year, I may try to do a whole set of the Twelve Day theme for one of the trees. They are just made out of applesauce, cinnamon, and glue. Then dried painted and sealed.

RoseMary,
These are so pretty! How much applesauce, cinnamon, and glue do you use?

I intended on making a few of those felt cut out ornaments and got started on one but best laid plans and all...... It was supposed to be my keep busy project while waiting for Jason's surgery but Lizzie and I ended up going shopping (she built him a Get well moose over at Build A Bear) and our grand idea went south. :o:p Then again I've been intending on making some button legged raggedy annes for my old timey tree for a couple years now. One day ladies, one day.

Zu, I used 2 cups of applesauce, which I put in a cloth lined strainer for about 30 minutes to drain some of the liquid out. Then, I dumped it in a bowl and mixed in 2 tbsp. glue, and cinnamon (approximately 2 1/2-- 2.3 oz bottles) just enought until it could be kneaded--it can take more or less cinnamon, depending on how 'wet' your applesauce is.
Then I rolled the dough out, coating my rolling pin with cinnamon, and cut out the ornaments, poked holes in with a toothpick (a very important step!) and put them on a cookie sheet to dry. I turned them over a couple of times a day to keep them from 'warping' and it took about 2-3 days to dry.
After they were dry, I sanded the rugged edges with a fingernail file and put 1-2 coats of paint on (I rubbed mine off to make them look old). After they were dry I put 2 coats of 1/2 glue, 1/2 water on them, drying well between coats.
Tanya, those button legged raggedy Anne's sound cute.

Rosemary, I have forgotten about making those kind of ornaments. I love how you painted them and made them look old. Thank you for the "recipe", now I just have to remember to make them next Christmas!
By the way how do they keep from year to year?

Thanks Rosemary, I think I bought the original one at Jo-Anns on clearance and just wish I could have got more. They look absolutely easy to do, I just get wrapped up in other projects and keep forgetting to do them. :o There is also a clothes hanger with a cute pinafore on it that I'm dying to recreate. I need to quit my job and stay home to do these projects I keep finding!!!!:D
Will have to remember this project to do next year with Lizzie. Sounds like a great thing for us to do. Though waiting for a couple days for them to dry will be a test of patience......;)
