I thought you might like to read about my new friend.:)
About 3 weeks ago a white cat showed up at the salon. It was a big cat, all white with a grey tail. It looks kinda funny all white with a grey tail.

The weather was very nice and I had the salon door open. The son of a client was hanging around the open door and noticed the cat kill a snake. It was not a huge snake but nevertheless a snake in the flower bed in front of the salon. We could not believe it. The cat ATE the snake. Well we were shocked. Soon enough the cat came into the shop and my clients son pronounced it a girl cat. I was thinking what a worthy girl kittie, killed a snake and all so I started to feed her.

I made her a box and put lots of blankets and towels in it and now every morning while my coffee is brewing I go check her. She made one foray into the dog yard and decided it was seriously not a good idea with Chevy and Runt hot on her heels. So now she stays around the big wooden shed and seems to be content.

Last week I noticed a bite on her neck and I thought maybe a male cat had his way with her and I knew if I had any chance of keeping her it would not be with a ton of kittens too. Miss Runt rids the back yard of anything that moves and an innocent little kitten wandering in there would not be pretty.

My good friend Janie's daughter is a vet and Janie volunteered to take her to be fixed. I didn't want to pay for that but I would have to find kittens a home if Runt didn't get them sooooo she took her. I told Janie to tell her to do what she could for her but if it was over $100 call me.

Janie called that afternoon and asked if I had $100 to pay for the visit. I was secretly hoping it would be around $65 not $100 but oh well it's Christmas.

Anyway Janie started to laugh and said no it's just $12.50 what??? why??? She was starting to laugh so hard and she said that her daughter inquired, " MaMa did you and Mem look at this cat before you brought it here? Well we thought we did....it was a neutered male. Oh my.

Now I have this great snake killing big boy named " Yow", he is an outside cat and doesn't want to come inside so I guess he is mine now. I have tons of covers for him so he won't get cold I hope. I got a wooden box and covered it with thick plastic and made him a house. I will worry cause he is outside but he prefers it I guess.

Someone must have dropped him off here but he will have a better life if they didn't want him. I just don't want him to be cold this winter. I may find him a sleeping bag also...LOL
I have a cat! named Yow

Mem, That is a great cat, christmas story and it was Yow's lucky day when he showed up
at your salon!!! He has a secure and happy life ahead of him!!!

My neighbor's outdoor kitty tired of the hustle and bustle and scrambling for food with 2 other cats, a dog and countless raccoons. Without checking with anyone, she moved over here and found a nice quiet spot under my porch. I thought she was a stray. I started feeding her, then found out she belonged to the neighbor's. We tried to get her to move back home but she had made up her mind and everytime they took her home she would come back her the minute they let her outside. She prefers to be outside, but now that she is under my tractor beam, I bring her in when it is cold.......she was unhappy about it initially, but she has adjusted.

Have fun with your new kitty Mem!

I'm guessing by the color and name that maybe he's a siamese mix? they are some ferocious hunters so that is a good friend to make. :) That is funny that "she" is not only not a female but not a female in heat. I prefer boy cats anyday so good for you.:)

Yow sounds wonderful! I used to have a male Siamese that killed snakes. None of my current kitties are interested in killing them:(.

Yow is a lucky kitty to find you:D!

This big ole cat is fearless.
Miss Runt, my old dog, in her day has killed 2 cats and about 3 chickens. She is not a bad dog, she is scarey and was ridding my back yard of vermin in her eyes. I nearly died. Poor little things. Horrible.
Well yesterday I called Yow to eat and he just jumped over the fence INTO THE BACK YARD and Runt and Chev rushed him. He swatted at Chev and he did an exit stage left and I screamed at Runty to stop and Yow kept on walking and over the fence to eat. My heart stopped.
Now this was preceeded the day before by Yow coming through the dog door and into my house. I looked up from TV and there he was. The dogs didn't see him so I ushered him out. What a cat!!! he also climbs up and sleeps ONTOP of my carport...ontop. What is the deal with this crazy cat. He is scared of nothing.
When it is time to eat he comes and finds me and tells me so. No dry catfood for him he wants wet food. He will come to the window by my chair and look in and tell me it's time to eat. ughhhh now I am being held hostage by Yow the mystery cat.

Being held hostage by a cat pretty much sums up cat ownership! :D

Good Morning Everyone, :)

Memmey, that was so nice that you took in Yow. I have a full house of pets. Some were rescues, or drop~offs. People think just because you have a barn and animals, that you want what they don`t.

Give your new boy a snuggle for me. Maybe you should change his name to ``Braveheart.`` :) He sounds like a keeper. Have a great day.

Hugs,
Linda :)

I love your kitty's face. What a cutie.

I had to laugh last night. I rarely just lay down and watch TV, but that's what I did. I had all the dogs and cats laying on me or near me. They must have thought it was a special occasion!

I like the name Braveheart for Yow. :) Sounds to me that Yow was raised around dogs and doesn't think he needs to fear them in the least. My Tubby doesn't think much of a dog barking at him or charging him either. About the only response you'll see from him is an irritable flick of the tail.

Poor ole thing he just sits by the back gate and dreams of coming into the yard/house. Remember my little bird Bitsey Jo? I can't have a cat in my house. I have had Jo for about 9 years. I feel for the kitty and he is eating well and has a warm bed but he CANNOT come inside. Jo would look like dessert to him.
Oh if I could find him a nice home. He is a wonderful big ole cat. His motor runs so loud when you pet him and he makes biscuits on your arm. That's cat talk right? I use to work at the no-kill shelter when my husband and I first divorced and I really needed money. I took care of 50 cats. Sweet little things that would reach out of their cages for me to pet them. I never brought one home becacuse I had dogs, NOW this kooky fearless cat has wandered up here.
I can see him with his arm up to his shoulder reaching into Jo's cage for a snack.
He's wooing Miss Runty right now for an invite into the yard.

Hi Everyone, :)

I have to say that all of my pets get along very well together. Once in a while there is a little scuffle, and it ends as quickly as it began.

Our cats get along with the birds. The dogs get along with the cats. Even the bunnies and the smaller dog play, running around the house, some times the cats join in. It is so funny watching them. The cats stare at the fish tanks. I swear the fish taunt them. :D When we had our little white mouse, he would sit on the cat`s head, and the cat would purr. The cats played with our ferret when he was alive.

We raised all of our animals to get along with one another. If they are raised that way, then there aren`t any problems. My friend`s dog hates, hates, everything. I warned her from the very start to socialize him with kids and other animals. If and when she has kids, the dog is going to be a problem. :(

Hugs,
Linda :)

Lisa S

You're completely right ~ most animals will get along if they're raised together.

I love the dynamic of our pets relationships. We have a very tubby kitty who has recently started cuddling with our Golden Retriever, Lucy. When Lucy was a pup, my cats thought I had lost my mind bringing such a beast into our family. Our littlest cat rules the roost and all of the other pets are afraid of him. The dogs won't go near the door if this cat is standing any where near it.

I get a kick out of their routines too. The dogs have to run around outside while the kids wait for the bus. They know when the bus is coming home too and beg to go outside.

You know I can't let this kitty feel unloved so tonight when I finnished in the salon he came in and we sat in a chair and had quality time. He LOVES me. He picked me. He laid his big ole head on my chest and purred and purred. It's like he knows I'm trying to do right by him.
Maybe he can be a salon cat sometimes.
He follows me like a dog and I swear he understands what I say. I tell him stay and he does. LOL Do you tell cats to stay...LOL I'll get a pic of him to post.

You're a good woman. I think a salon cat sounds like a terrific idea. No perms for him though... promise?

chyna
01-09-2009, 01:47 PM
A salon cat sounds like a great idea!

I feared for our birds when we got them because my cats are major bird killers and other than the one incident where I came home to find the bird cage on the floor, a very irritated cockatiel flapping around and another cockatiel in the cage looking less than happy to be in a cage on the floor they've been good kitties. I honestly don't know why, not like they care what we want. :p I even put the birds outside in the cage (the heavy duty iron cage) and the cats leave them alone, Tubby lays in the grass beneath the cage but he doesn't try to get them.

But I know if that bird were to get out and he was in the house he'd be a dead bird. I was threatening him the other day with letting him out and letting Tubby eat him (cockatiels are way noisier than I thought and this guy is super annoying) and I swear Tubby gave me a big ol' cat smile. Little brat.:D

You give cats an inch and they'll take a mile as they worm their way into your heart! Yow sounds like such a big sweetie!!

Someone once told me:
The difference between cats and dogs is simple. Dogs see these beings that treat them well, give them attention, food and water and think, "Wow, they must be gods!"

Cats see these beings that treat them well, give them attention, food and water and think, "Wow, I must be a god!"

I say this as I try to type on my laptop with Kita slowly progressing towards a sleeping position that covers more and more of the keyboard!

Lisa S
01-18-2009, 06:35 PM
I type that way 90% of the time. I've got three of the little buggers (and two of the kind that think I'm the god!) The little kitty drapes himself on my arm while the big fat kitty sits on my keyboard and types messages out with his 30 lb. belly. My orange tabby thinks of himself as one of the dogs.

He is so beautiful! He is one lucky kit-kat to find such a home....

What about the doggies? Will they become friends-ya think? Kitties have a fine way of "getting out of the way" of dogs, etc...

memmey
01-19-2009, 07:10 PM
Wellll........not today. They are so intrigued and possessive of the back yard. It may be just a matter of them thinking he is getting food that they could be eating. They love to eat, so does Yow as a matter of fact. Yow was skinny when he came here and now he is filling out.
I think eventually they will all blend together. I just don't trust him around Bitsey Jo ( parrotlet).

Do you think he has a little Siamese in the background since he has such odd coloring. All white with a dark tail makes me think so. Do you think?

Belly typing? What a concept! ;)

Our Trixie is an "arm draper", and we always say that Skippy is our DogCat...he carries things around in his mouth and gathers all his toys outside the bathroom, upstairs. Then he lies there, as a king with his treasures! Rusty, our orange cat is what we call the "perfect cat"...does nothing weird or wrong!

ChapterTwo
01-20-2009, 01:45 AM
Memmey...Yow is gorgeous! Since he's neutered, it sounds like he was dumped - sad to say. I have two cats that I feed outside like that - extremely affectionate siblings that have long fur, and it's easy to tell they once had homes. I really want to take them in, but don't know how they'll get along with my existing three, who are like the Three Amigos!

I was just able to post some kitty pics in my album (SUCCESS! I never had luck with photos on the CL Board.) The first one is the two ferrals - Grey Fluffy and White Fluffy (so creative, huh?), and then we have Skippy on the couch (b & w kitty) and Rusty on the living room radiator. (I believe that's the pretty rose towel you sent me, Memmey!)

P.S. - I backed up and read how Yow came into your life...nice story/brave kitty!
What I hate about having my ferals for friends is that I worry about them so...especially in this cold weather. They do have a spot under my house where I put soft beds...but it's still outside and it's still cold. Their coats fluffed up tremendously in this bad weather - God did what He could to help!

Thanks everyone for saying he is gorgeous, you know I do think he is handsome for a cat that just showed up.
I am the consumate worrier so I made him a wooden box and covered it with plastic tablecloths I had and put tons of warm blankets in it. I had this bench on the carport so I put it on top off the ground.
The yellow building there is the shop, it's the last thing I have to paint this spring. My son moved the bench and his box inside so he is inside a wooden building , inside a wooden box with 2 rugs and lots of flannel covers.
I have a feeling he is not going anywhere.
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o243/memmey/things177.jpg

The yellow table napkin is his door, LOL LOL I put it down at night and it keeps the cold air from coming in. Do you think I should have had more than one child? LOL HOVERING!!!!!!!

Some of my best cats have been ones that have found me. Yow is adorable, what a great story.
Currently I have only one cat (DH is not a cat person but I keep him anyway). Here's pepper the cat, she is getting on in years and has had a few tussles with the mean neighborhood bully cat. She had a fight with him and he tore her ear :(, poor thing hasn't been the same since. After the Billy the dog died she has been the sole animal and she loves her new status. She was never a vocal animal now she talks incessantly, and begs for food.
This is prior to the fight, she's vain and doesn't like her picture taken since the ear incident.

I think he could be part Siamese just because of the yowling noise you said he makes, and he reminds me of my Tubby who I know has to have some Siamese in there somewhere.

You and my mom should live next door to each other with the cat parenting hover. I was remarking to my brother how we were never really allowed to sit in one of the chairs at my parents house and yet the cats get to lay there whenever. She has also devoted entire couches to the cat (s), made up a bed in one of the windows and they are spoiled rotten. Those cats are treated better than the dog!

Pepper is a beauty! I could post about a billion pictures of Kita. I knew I wanted to adopt a cat, so when I went to the adoption place, I saw her and asked to see her. Another couple was thinking of adopting her, so we all sat around in a circle and the worker placed Kita in the middle of us. Kita came to me, immediately flopped onto her back and started purring. She came home with me that night! She'd been abandonded because she'd gotten pregnant. When I got her she was a thin li'l thing since she'd just finished weaning, and now she's a wee bit on the chubby side. She has short legs and tail to begin with and now she looks kinda like a butterball with legs. I love her desperately!

I am wondering about this....I see Tom cats sneaking around my house lately. My neighbors cat is here constantly posturing really ugly toward Yow. What is the deal?Yow is neutered, so is my neighbors cat. What are they doing? Is Yow gonna have to fight every cat that sneaks over here?????

chyna
01-27-2009, 08:38 AM
Yes, probably so. I don't know why but my Tubby and my next door neighbor's tom battle all the time. They have even snuck into enemy territory and glared at each other from the other's roof and thru this summer the two of them would sneak into the other's house and we'd find them in the morning. good thing Nina and I are friendly to each other or there would be a battle over the other one's pets. ;)

One of the outdoor cats that I feed, and another neighborhood cat (both males) are often having yodeling contests. When I hear them, I go outside, and see them posturing (just as you said, Memmey) and sort of sizing each other up. Then I break up all the fun by yelling, "Stop it! Stop it!" I don't know if the next step would be fighting, but I'm a pacifist! :o

Cruelty to animals is so hard for me to understand. They are so innocent and don't understand why they are being treated that way.

I remember years ago on Judge Judy's show, a woman was suing her 'boyfriend' for hurting her little dog because is 'got on his nerves'. It came out during the trial that he now babysat her baby all the time~what was she thinking? Anyone that would harm a little dog, wouldn't stop at a baby:eek:.
