Doesn't that sound like a song title like White wedding? :D

Anyhooo, I got some of the walls painted pink in the kitchen. yep I took the plunge and did it. I'm unsure of it at the moment but once the trim is up, the shelf over the sink is up and the ceiling is finished I will just love it. I do like it now, just unsure if the color is too well pink. Oh what am I talking about?!!! It sure beats that cat poop color that was up there from my failed attempt of finding a good food color. :o Oh and forgot, must get the last cupboard sanded, painted (and primed of course), cut out the back for the pipe that runs out of the wall right at that location and screwed up there. Thennnnn it will be good. I also decided that I'm over the black doors on the cabinet under the sink so I tried to paint it bright white. That didn't come out so well so I think I'll get one of those little jars of apple green paint and maybe lighten it a bit and paint that area. Wanted to do some pinstriping on that set of doors but I can't figure out how to tape it off to do it so on to plan B or was it Plan C.

Chyna, your kitchen sounds adorable. I painted my DD's bedroom pink years ago, she is a pink lover and it is bright. When she has the lights on and you look in from the outside it actually glows.
Are you going for a romantic/shabby look or a funky look?
Please post pictures would love to see the project.

A pink bedroom is one of the reasons I resisted the pink kitchen. When we first moved into our house I painted a mural on one of the walls and then said hey little girly-girl needs pink walls so off to Home Depot we went. Let me tell you what, Piglet Pink is not as light of a pink as you think! I had to tone it down with some white washing and it is still in your face pink. But my dd likes it so up it stays.

the color I used in the kitchen is called Rose Buff. Now don't you think that goes with my rose theme for the entire household. :p Funny how the little things come up but I've noticed that there are alot of pink touches all over my house. Hey I did ask dh if he had a problem with pink in the house and he said no.;) I think it is pretty sweet and romantic-y in there now.

In answer to your question I'm going more romantic shabby whatever in there. Funky would be fun but just wouldn't fit the house and I promised it when we bought it that I wouldn't abuse it like the previous owner. So far it is keeping it's side of the bargain. :D

I just picked up the latest issue of House Beautiful, and there is a whole piece on different shades of pink paint. It had some really good colors and ideas...

Hi Chyna, :)

See... I told you when you first mentioned painting the kitchen pink. The worst thing that could happen is, that you hate it, and would have to repaint it. It sounds like you like what you had done. Always go with your first instincts. :)

I am with the other ladies. I can`t wait to see what the end results look like. As for the pin stripping. Can you take the doors off of the cabinets? If so, you can lay them on a flat surface and pin stripe them free hand. That is what I have done. Or, there is a pin stripping tape that you can get at craft stores. It is real easy to use. The black cabinet door can be primered, and then repainted. What ever you do. Have fun.

Have a good day!

Hugs,
Linda :)

I finally found some "grout" tape at Ace Hardware so I managed to get my pin stripes in. Had to go back and touch them up since that faux grout tape let the paint bleed but all and all I think it came out ok. The red sort of worries me. Yes I intended on doing a nice apple green but while standing there looking over the paint sample jars I couldn't resist the red and it won the "this or that" test at home. :p

I have alot of china with red on them and it just seemed right. Rather overpowering though but my intention is to put some rose Wallies on it which should tamp it down a bit on the in your face-ness.

My dd and I got bored waiting for my dh to finish his football game so we hung a few things over the stove and it is so darn cute now!!! Honestly I'm just so tickled with how cute it is. I also picked up some matching outlet covers in a white wood that really just makes the whole pink walls sweetly sing. The old outlets were mismatched. Three covers and three finishes. Not attractive at all!!!

I think that the stove needs a shelf above it so that will probably be the next woodworking project to be completed????????? don't want to rush anything you know. :o:D

I am worried that it will start ot look like a Valentine's card exploded in there though. Trying to be light on the red. :o I'm thinking of putting another pinstripe below the first just to tone the red down a bit more and jazz it up. My other goal or quest is to find some door knobs in white with red polka dots or red with white polka dots. I do like a challenge. :o

Will we finally get to see pics of some of these amazing projects you work on, Tanya?? The pink and red-- we must see! (PLEASE???)

Also the painted "rugs" you'd done on your floors. It's always fascinating to hear about, but my imagination isn't so good that I can picture it all!!

Jen tried to kill me with one of zombie squirrels this morning. I think the radiation off of those teeny tiny transmitters got to the little guy. Or it was a really smart squirrel, stopped and waited for me to drive by before crossing the road/street. Not normal!

Guess I should give you an update on the pink kitchen. I had to change the shades on the light in the kitchen and decided that since I have the ladder up and in the house (it is really heavy, one of those ones that you can make into a A shape or just a leaning against the house) I was going to get the last cupboard cut out and attached so had dh up and sawing. Then since again I have the ladder out I grabbed one of the trim pieces from the beadboard kit and put it up as trim. that went so-so. Where the previous people put that square arch and replaced the plaster with sheetrock it is sorta wavy so it didn't fit as well as I'd hoped but I did get it up there. Had an extra piece sitting there so said what's the chances and measured the space above the shelves and whaddayaknow it was just right with a little trimming off of an angle.

Won't lie, I'm not sure what I think of the pine trim coming down over my pink. Something doesn't seem quite right about it. Could be that the rest of the ceiling isn't installed yet. :o I fully intended on kicking the dogs out from under the staircase and pulling down the rest of the beadboad and putting up on the ceiling but best laid plans and all. Plus I really should stain them first. some of the boards we put up there already aren't stained but I figure that once I put the shellac up there it won't matter and will have character.

I also have a small problem with the kitchen sink, everytime you use the dishwasher it backs up into the sink. No handwashing won't fix that. ;)

Lizzie and I found some things upstairs while moving furniture around that would be great in the kitchen so I still need to figure out where but it is coming along. Just need to find some tissue paper or scrapbook paper to tear and modge podge on the backsplash and we should be good as gold. DH is not talking, not sure what he thinks of this radical change in direction.:o

Hi Folks,
I'm new here but just had to pop in and put my 2 cents in. I would LOVE a pink kitchen but my husband would never go for it.
I just did my kitchen in red and white. I've decided it's TOO much red and am going to tone it down a bit. I am going to add splashes of aqua in the kitchen as well as my livingroom which is has alot of red too. I saw a room in a mag that had reds and aqua accents. It was beautiful.

Good luck with the pink. I'm jealous!

My hubby wasn't too enthused about the pink either but finally just buckled under the pressure. I think it helped that I didn't use too girly of a pink or too light. He generally doesn't care what I do around there as long as I don't ask him to help. He who doesn't give opinion get no chance to complain later on. How's that for a fortune cookie saying? :p

Welcome Lisacraftiques! The red and aqua sound like a very workable combination.

Tanya- Yes, the squirrels are watching you. :) They're waiting until you finally go out and then searching your house for the digital camera we know you received, like, a year ago. And then they're going to take photos for us.

That's why they have those teeny-tiny hands. :)

(Watch, she's going to be laughing now every time she sees a squirrel.) :D

Love your fortune cookie advice. I kind of work on the same plan. I pretty much do what needs to be done regarding painting and choice of decor. I've been semi considerate of him re: the home and the house is pretty much gender neutral, but there is "my decor cutter" as he calls it.He has to deal with it. He has this huge golf trophy and I let it stay in the family room so that's my compromise :)

Welcome, Lisacraftiques! I am doing my kitchen in a lot of red, too. My cabinets, anyway. It has taken over a year to find the 'right' red:o.

Your aqua sounds very pretty with the red! I have a sort of silvery green that I'm using with mine. Let us know how it is going!

Tanya, are you leaving the pine trim natural, or painting it?

Busy thread since I've been away for, what, a day.

Chyna, I'm on the side of the squirrels. I am a visual person and need pictures; the whole "A picture is worth a thousand words" thang. Interesting complication with the dishwasher acting up - must be the ladder in the room. I have a ladder in the room, and I'm washing dishes by hand.

Good Morning Everyone, :)

Welcome Lisascraftique. I would also love to see your finished project. As for the squirrels. I wonder if we all can train them to paint and do housework? :D

The Fortune Cookie comment was cute. My hubby is very passive. He rarely if ever complains. We tend to have the same taste.

This certainly has been a busy thread. I had some connection problems and haven`t been able to stay on line long enough to read through everything. It is annoying to say the least. I just hate when I am cut off in the middle of your ideas. :p

Have a good day today Ladies. Take care.

Hugs,

Lisa

I was going to leave the pine trim natural (well relatively, I planned on staining and shellacking it) but now I'm wondering if maybe painting it white would be better or even the antique cream whatever white of the cupboards. Problem with that idea is that the paint is about a goner. I think I can get enough out of it to use on the last cupboard and then I need to call defeat and toss the rest. Bad can and it is just getting gloopy.

Was thinking that the natural would tie in with the ceiling better but should remember that the rest of the trim in the room happens to be stained Merlot with two coats (or maybe it is one) of amber shellac or painted Saddle Brown. I know I don't want either of those colors of there (I think) but the pine isn't really lifting my skirt either. :(

Chyna,

Have you tried diluting your paint? Diluted paint is kind of the way to go on woodwork any way.

chyna
01-15-2009, 10:12 AM
I'm afraid to dilute this stuff. My dh grabbed if and many other gallons of paint from a hardware store that closed it's doors and put this paint out for whoever used it.

Always a surprise to open some of those cans to discover what color you'll see.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.
I will post pics on my projects as soon as they are done. It may be awhile as it's hard to find the time to work on my own projects. I am always doing something to put in the shop.

Anyway...I would love to see pics of the pink kitchen too!
I always love to see other people's decorating projects and getting to peek into their home. It's great to see other creative minds at work.
