Hi all! I sometimes like to learn why we use certain decorating touches in our cottage homes and thought I'd ask you about the bird and the nests too. Does anyone know how or why they came about? Thanks!

Birds & nests go waaaaay back in art. Hmmmmmmm. We would have to do some research to answer this one!

I think right now birds and nests are popular because of the phrase "feathering our nests" and "nesting" it conjures up a visual of cozy homeyness(is that even a word ) and nature.

Good Morning Ladies, :)
Heather, I could be wrong about this but, this is what I was told about Black Crows or Ravens. They symbolize hope and protection. In some cultures such as Celtic, they symbolize death or a bad omen.
These people didn`t like them because they neglected their young, and always seemed to be present at the time of a death or a burial. Much of americana art work such as primitives, country, and folk art, most always feature black crows in their designs.
Crows play a very important role in the environment, as they are scavengers and will eat just about anything. They eat what most others won`t. They are natures garbage men. :) I think the other ladies are right about what the bird nest symbolize.
Enjoy the day everyone!
Hugs,
Linda :)
