One of my 2009 decorating resolutions is to get some rugs for our house. We have 4 big dogs (with lots of fosters and client dogs visiting), so durability and ease of cleaning are pretty critical. I just got a dark charcoal wool rug for the living room, and although I love it, I think it's too dark and fluffy for summer. So now, I'm trying to think of ideas for summer rugs. I'd love to do a jute or seagrass rug, but I'm concerned about stains, etc. Do y'all think doing an indoor outdoor rug would be a good idea?

Another possibility would be a light tan colored cow hide rug. We just got a white one for our bedroom for cheap on ebay, and they are supposed to be durable and easy to clean. Do y'all think that would be cute or creepy in a living room seating area?

I'm going to try to post a photo tomorrow so you can get an idea of what the space looks like...

Thanks!

Is that a picture of one of your dogs? We have a Golden too ~ I love them.

I've found natural fiber rugs as not very easy to clean. Good luck on your quest.

I just put down new carpet upstairs. I wanted something cozy, but that would also be welcoming on a hot day. I wish I could remember the brand, but the distinctive thing about it is that the both ends of the loop are sewn down..........it is not fuzzy.....just a warm covering..if that make sense.

I spent a month or more picking out carpet since it is such a big investment. The one I wanted initially is very different than the one I ended up with. I would suggest bringing home samples, see how they look and feel and think about them in each season......

Evelyn, is your carpet Berber? I had that in a previous house, and it was so nice. We have all hardwoods in our current house b/c any kind of wall to wall would be GROSS in a week with all the hair that we have. Lisa - That is one of our dogs (Ruby), and all 4 of them are Goldens. Aren't they the best? We vacuum a lot, though b/c we get some serious hair tumbleweeds.

We don't have a problem with our dogs having accidents inside, but I'm a dog trainer, so client dogs stay with us sometimes and they do occasionally have accidents.

Yes, it is a berber. Same with the downstairs. I am so impressed. I have had my downstairs carpert for 10 years, and it inludes the stairway. There is no visible wear on the carpet. It was expensive, but I can say that it is well worth the price.

Do you know that a carpet store can make anyone of their carpets into an area rug by finishing the edges? A friend of mine just did that because she wanted a wool area rug for her son's room.

My last dog was a golden.....I love them.

My last "baby" was a golden, Sadie. I found the new "baby" being given away on the street a little over a year ago. Here she is . . . Lucy, with my daughter's golden-doodle, Melvin (who was 5 months when this was taken) while we were out looking for our tree this year.

Awwww. Lucy and Melvin look like such good friends. What an adorable duo...

(Can't imagine somebody was giving sweet Lucy away! I got one of my dogs...years ago...that same way. His name was Randy and he was a Fox Terrier mix.)
