Hi folks.
As many of you have observed, things have been getting a little rough around the forums here. As part of a massive technology rework and consolidation, your humble nerd was put on a bunch of different critical projects, which sent him traveling all over the country and working a lot of hours. Unfortunately, it also caused him to take his eye off the ball here, and as you can see, the spammers have gotten the door pried just enough to start sliding junk mail through.
While I was otherwise occupied, the server that this forum is sitting on was virtualized, combined with many others and tucked into a winking stack of gleaming technological marvels in a sterile data center in the heart of America.
Now having done my part elsewhere in the company, I'm able to turn my attention back to our little corner of the Internet here and work to banish the baddies. Thanks to Hillary and her powers of persuasion to the powers that be, we have a license to the very latest version of the vBulletin software, which has greatly improved defenses against the crims out there.
I will be, over the next couple of weeks, upgrading the forums to that new version, as well as implementing a couple of other plugins available for that version to keep the canned meat product out.
By the way, some of you may have noticed that you will get a message to the effect of, "You have tried to log in too many times; please try again in 15 minutes." I have been getting this as well. Turns out that due to a misconfiguration in the firewall, the C&B server thinks that everybody is trying to log in through a single IP address (the IP of the firewall.) Everything else functions correctly and there's no danger of a privacy breach, but it is causing the issue that you've experienced. It should be resolved shortly.
Oh, and one last thing: A tip of the proverbial hat to shabbychick and mac78, who have volunteered their time to moderate the forums and help fight spam. Thank you!
