View Full Version : Mattresses?

I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions for how to fix our mattress dilemma? We have a really nice (aka expensive) pillow top mattress that we got in 2005 from my grandmother when she sold her beach condo. It was barely used (my mom slept in it twice), and we've used it as our primary mattress since then. It's a pillow top, so we can only rotate it and can't flip it, and now we have permanent valleys where we sleep. The valleys are in the pillow top and not in the mattress itself. Does anybody know if you can get a pillow top replaced or would getting some sort of wool or feather bed help us out?

Are you sure you can't flip it? I have a pillowtop also and thought it could not be flipped, but most pillowtops are pillowtops on the top and bottom, just so you can flip it. If not, you can purchase a pillow topper at Walmart. They are a bit pricey, but a lot cheaper than buying a new mattress. They are memoryfoam and work very very well. We got one to put on top of our mattress in our motorhome, which is hard as a rock, and it worked beautifully. I think the queensize was just under or about $200.

Yes, I'm sure we can't flip it b/c we tried and failed! I was thinking about one of those toppers, but I'm worried that if the base isn't level then it will still have indentations...

That should not be an issue. Our base on our mattress in our motorhome is not level either, but the topper just sort of smoothed it all out. I get very frustrated with mattress's. They say they are supposed to last 20 years, and really play that up when you pay a fortune for them:mad: But than they start to lump up and go bad about 5-7 years, so you have to go buy another one anyway. They should just charge less and be honest up front and tell you they are only good for 5-7 years.
