OK so here's my new TV stand. The stereo, DVD, etc. is all tucked below. There was no room for the speakers but I'm going to have to figure something out to break up all the black. Any ideas?
A colorful tablerunner with coordinating colors in the room?

Wowzers!!! It looks great, Heather! Another idea - you could paint an accent color or words/numbers/initials on it...

I LOVE that idea, Zuzu! What a beautiful pic, is it yours?

Love it Heather.
I agree put a piece of fabric on top of the stand. Burlap is a good choice and to break up all the black- are you going to leave your speakers up there?
If so I'd cover them with burlap - just tape it to the back where no one would see and it wont' interfere with the sound quality.

Love the idea of covering the speakers with burlap!

Heather...I have several pieces of furniture that I want to paint and I really like how your tv stand turned out. Could you tell me the paint color you used and tell me the steps....I would really appreciate it!

Look in the decorating thread, "Painting Kitchen cabinets black....." and how Annielinz did it. Tammy posted on how to paint and distress them.

And while I'm looking at the picture of your beautiful black cabinet, I want to say, too, that I love your floor!! You know, something red would be a nice contrast with the black, or maybe red and white, if those colors fit your decorating scheme in any way.

No, Heather, that's not my cupboard. It's from one of the bazillion Nordic blogs that I visit. Isn't it scrumptious?

So many of us are into "Trash to Treasure" decorating, and I came across the term "Wood Icing", which I'd never heard before. So I wanted to share the site with you...this product is something interesting to consider, I think!

That looks like a neat product. I saw something similar in a magazine or book to create a raised design on a wall. A lot of work but yields great results. I'd like to try it sometime.

I put table runners on my tv stand to protect the top and add color.
I notice that you have gold or bronze harware on the cabinet. Why not take a gold or bronze paint pen from the craft store to the detail in the doors to make them pop?

Carrie - I redid another cabinet for my tv so I don't have that one anymore (got $100 for it!):

I haven't painted it yet, but I wanted to show you the little cabinet that I got for $5 at a recent local flea market. It looks somewhat like an old library card cabinet, and is heavy wood, but had a "China" sticker on the back! :o
There were drawers missing, as you can see, but I just organized them in a way that it "works" (I think). I have more stuff to show you but this is all I have a photo of, so far.

Tnx, yarborough house and shabby chick...
<<That's a beautiful box! What do you plan to use it for? >>
I have NO idea! HaHa! That's the trouble - I see so many things that are "cute", but I haven't even gone through all the boxes from my old house (and my parents' house!) and you know how it goes...there are only so many walls and spaces for stuff. :o
Soooo, for now I'll paint it, stash it in the cellar and hopefully it'll find a place.

I know what you mean. I have more shelves and cute pictures than I have wall space. I suppose you can always paint it up and give it away for xmas or sell it on e-bay, but I always hate to part with something I've bought even if I can't find a single use for it.

Better check with the Keno twins before you paint it! It may be old and worth more unpainted.:D

Ooh that is so cute. I can think of a zillion uses for it. Spice rack, mail center, bathroom accessorie holder, knick knack holder, etc etc. Very good find:D
