View Full Version : Has anyone ever experienced unexplainable occurrences in an old house?

Hi All, :)
Well... we have. At first my hubby thought I was losing it, and made light of the situation. Most of the occurrences happened when our kids were babies. My mother~in~law swears it is my deceased father~in~law checking in on the new little ones.
He was tragically killed when our first daughter was almost two.
Our house is only 30~yrs old, so it isn`t what I would consider old. Seasoned maybe? I have sworn I have heard my kids call out to me, and no one is in the house.
I have sworn I have seen one of them get up in the middle of the night, and walk down the hall, only to find they are all fast asleep.
We have had unexplainable noises, even my hubby can`t explain. Our dogs will bark and growl in to thin air. We had a neighborhood power outage, and one of our bedrooms was dimly lit. Cold breezes on hot days. Nothing ever bad, just unusual.
We rented an old victorian years back. I could swear I saw things that weren`t there, and hear people talking when I was alone. I hated the attic, I always had an uneasy feeling up there, and it was cold in the dead of summer. More on that house later on. :)
I was curious if anyone else has had these experiences in an old house, or a house that you have lived in?
Hugs,
Linda :)

Oh no you don't....now I am dying to know about the victorian house. Come on I have to know now. Spill it sista;)
( I was having alot of dingy bad luck last year and I blessed my house with Holy Oil myself. I live in the heart of Catholic country. Now I was told you have to close the back door , start there and bless your way out of the open front door. That is old school Catholic stuff. Actually my house loves me, no really I feel it. Now that is a 2 page story..LOL)

Hi Memmey, :)
Okay, about the Victorian, only if you tell me about the 2~pager that you had mentioned. LOL!
I never heard of blessing the house backwards. Hmmm.
Carl and I rented a two family victorian from good friends of Carl`s parents. We moved in and it was a mess. We had to repaint, refinish, and stain everything. Not to mention it being filthy.
My mom had come over one morning after our daughter had gotten on to the school bus. Nicole was our only child at that time. Mom and I were washing walls and started painting, and all of the sudden ``BAM!`` The french doors that were in our daughter`s room slammed shut. Now, there was no breeze, no windows or doors were open. It was still march and too cold to open them. So, I went back there and opened them. We started to paint and once again ``Bam!`` I decided to leave them shut.
Later on, Mom went to go bring us back some lunch, so I was all alone. I could swear out of the corner of my eye, I saw a little girl in period clothing. You know..... those funny buckled boots they use to wear, and poofy dress, and ringlets. I didn`t see a face, it happened so fast. I ran thru the aparment thinking maybe the lady downstairs had one of her grand children stop for a visit, and wondered up to my place. NO! The doors were locked, and no one was there. Okay, I was losing my mind. LOL!
One evening, the old lady from downstairs calls us up on the phone, and asks us to have our daughter stop roller skating across the floors, it is driving her nuts. It was 10:00 P.M., and we were all asleep I told her, plus our daughter doesn`t have roller skates!
Our dog would pace the floors howling and whining. Sometimes she would just bark and growl in to thin air. The attic was cold even on the hottest of days, and I would get chills. Carl never experienced any of this.
There were a lot of odd things happening that couldn`t be explained. There was a couple called the Warrens that were ghost chasers here in CT. (They have a web~site) You all may have heard of them? They came to our town and gave a lecture. My mother~in~law told them what was going on, and how I was basically the only one being effected. The Warrens researched the house thru some records, not sure which ones, and had found out that a little girl did die in the house. And apparently there were a few others. How strange is that?
According to the Warrens`, only some people are sensitive enough to see and hear these things. Now.... I don`t know if I believe in ghosts or not. But I have had several instances where I can not explain what just happened.
Remind me to tell you all about the house my MIL pet sat at. LOL! She wanted to see if I was going to get any reaction from this place, and I did. :)
Hugs,
Linda :)

Hi Everyone, :)
I am not sure if any of you have seen this web~site or not? It was sent to me a couple of years ago, and to my surprise, my kids` school is haunted.
They don`t go there anymore, but they did.
Here is the link: http://www.theshadowlands.net/places/connecticut.htm
Scroll down to Winchester. That is our town.
Also if you scroll to Cornwall, Bristol, Norfolk and Torrington, they are close by us. Also, the Falls Village Inn, in Falls Village is haunted. My oldest daughter worked there for a while. I forgot to see if it is also listed. I will. :p
One of our oldest cemetaries in Winchester Center is suppose to be haunted by The Green Lady, thus the title ``The Green Lady Cemetary.`` That was not listed, I wonder why? Also the Famous Dudley Town. I think that was in Cornwall??
Here is the main link to check and see what is haunted where you live. Look under your state. http://www.theshadowlands.net/places/
I would be interested to see who has a haunted house or building in your area.
Have a good night.
Hugs,
Linda :)

My mom and dad looked at a house to buy about 30 years ago. As soon as they walked into an upstairs bedroom, my mom said, "We can't buy this house. Someone died in this room." They later found out that the former owner had hung themselves in that very room.

Hi Lisa, :)
Is it just your mom that is sensitive, or other members of your family as well? From what I have been told, if there is a death or murder in a home, it has to be disclosed to the potential new buyer.
Our house never had a death or murder, just unexplainable happenings. I was wondering if this house could also be on an old indian burial ground?
We live up on a mountain, even though it is residential.
Have a good night.

Linda :)

When I was growing up my mom and I used to hear a lot of noises in our kitchen late at night. It sounded exactly like dishes were falling and being thrown all over the floor and breaking~ we would walk in there and nothing had changed. It was pretty creepy because it was so loud. This went on for all the years I lived there. I've never asked her if it kept up after I was married and moved out of the house. We finally got used to it and quit checking on the noises, but still, it was disturbing to hear and we never figured out what was causing it. My mom and I were the only ones that ever heard it. If my dad and brother were staying up late, the kitchen stayed quiet. (This was not an old house~my parents had it built).
Lisa, I guess your mom really got chill bumps when she found out that someone had hung themselves in that room.
Linda, neat stories~I'm looking forward to hearing more!
Mem, I have heard of blessing the house that way, but didn't know that people could do it themselves without a priest.

Hi Rosemary, :)
Now that would make me scared. Dishes being broken and you don`t see them. I would be interested to know if your mom still hears that happening now or not? I wonder if your house was built on ancient burial grounds? Or, where a war took place?
Glad you liked this thread. I find it facinating myself. Too many people report hearing and seeing things. How can it not be true? I am one of them. :) I never worry about the dead. It`s the living you have to worry about.
Have a good evening.

I'm sensitive to the happiness factor of houses. I can feel if they've been lived in well or not.
I'm pretty perceptive to things before they happen. I wrote my dad a 6 page letter about what a wonderful father he was and gave it to him the week before he died of an unexpected heart attack at the age of 49. I just felt that it was important that I told him.
I have a long time friend who lives in Arizona. Every time I start thinking of her for days on end, I know I'd better call her 'cause something is up in her life. I've never been wrong. And she doesn't really live a dramatic life!
Before my aunt was diagnosed with colon cancer, I wrote her a letter about why I loved her too. I starting thinking I should quit writing letters. I'm happy to report that her cancer was 5 years ago and she's healthy and happy. I was right about loving her. Wrong about the sense of urgency to tell her. Good thing!
After my dad passed away, I really felt that my perception was keener than ever. My mom and I tried a few experiments. In one of them, I completely described and then drew out the apartment that she and my dad lived in before I was born. I guess I was pretty much right on the mark.
Doo-doo-do-doo, Doo-doo-do-doo!

Good Morning Lisa, :)
WOW! That was so interesting. It does amaze me when these things happen, and we find that we had done them just at the right time, as you had said with your dad. The strangest thing for me, is being in a place I have never been, and feeling a familiarity about it. Has that ever happened to you?
Several years back when our grand daughter was just a baby, I told my husband that I just envisioned our oldest daughter and the baby in a car accident. I was flipping out. My husband kept telling me not to worry. I had this strong feeling I wasn`t wrong, and there was an urgency to find her.
I called her house, no answer. I called her cell phone, no answer. I called my MIL, and she didn`t see her. I called several other family members as well as her friends, they didn`t see her. By this time I was bouncing off of the walls.
Finally, our daughter calls us, and was asking why I left a hysterical message on her cell phone? I told her what I had seen, and kept asking if she and the baby were okay? Which they were.
An hour or so later, my mother calls us, telling us how my brother`s girl friend hit a patch of ice, rolling the car with her and the baby inside!!!
I was off on which family member was in the accident, but I was right about the accident with a baby. She and my little nephew were okay, thankfully. But let me tell you, those I had talked with about this, while looking for my grand daughter and daughter were shocked. The accident was in the local news papers.
That is one of my Doo....Do....
Doooo...Do...Doos.
Thanks for sharing your experience Lisa. I find this all fascinating.
Have a good day.
Hugs,
Linda :)

my only experience like these was in a hotel that I stayed in Oaxaca City Mexico. It was a spanish style building that was built in the 1600. I was traveling with friends, but had my own room. I could never get a good night's sleep because I always thought somebody was in the room. I would wake in the night and open the closet, check behind the curtains and in the bathroom. I finally decided that since the hotel was so old, with so much history that there probably WAS somebody in the room with me!!!

Very interesting topic Linda!
When we moved into the Victorian house my dh was busy outside unloading the truck and bringing things in the house while I was in the dining room unpacking and trying to organize when someone called my name from the back door. I looked and no one was there. The voice was female and that was the only time that happened.
I told dh what had happened and he told me that he heard someone calling helloooooooooo - no one was there. Whoever or whatever it was was friendly cause nothing scary ever happened after that.
The house next door was the original school house circa 1883 - it's now a rental. Several people have come and gone and I know some had intended to stay cause they planted gardens etc. So one day I noticed that once again the renters were moving out. I went next door and asked the lady if anything strange went on in the house - I was concerned that she might think I was a little daffy - but she said that they heard doors close by themselves and her father had seen a dark apparition in the doorway. He also heard a child's voice cry mama mama. They didn't move cause of the creepy stuff they just wanted to move back to their old town. Anyway I was in the library one day and got to talking with the librarian and she told me a guy here in town had told her that a child was killed in the old house next door.

Hi Evelyn, :)
That certainly is unsettling. Was any mention made of the hotel having any occurrences, such as what you had described?
When we went to England a few years ago, our friends took us to one of the most haunted inns in England. It is an inn and a pub now. They actually had brochures that you could take, explaining the history and what to expect if you had stayed there. I opted to just take the brochure. LOL!
Have a great day!

Well the Dark Man lives at my house, I don't sense that he is dangerous but does spook my dd so I've had to forceably ask him to quit scaring her like that and just go away or stay hidden. I suspect it is him that wakes me up with phantom smells too. See when my dd was really little she would get sick with fevers and so forth (ear infections among other things) and you'd put her to bed feeling fine and then whammo she'd be sick in the middle of the night. Well this angel/personal assistant would wake me up with the smell of smoke so I'd get up to check it out and sure enough minutes later my dd would be waking up crying from the pain of the ear ache. Or would be vomitting from her sinus' or meds. The first couple of times it irritated me that this creature was waking me up with my biggest fear of the house catching on fire but grew to understand this was the best way to get my attention and then I was ok with the idea. Clever ghost/angel/spirit. :)
My grandparents house is haunted but the only people who have ever heard anything is my dad and me, possibly my brother. I believe my grandma would also hear stuff or see stuff but she passed away when I was a child so really any info I could get from her is long gone. Anyhow my grandpa married a woman with a son roughly my age who was staying upstairs with my brother in the boys suite. Now understand that we were treasure hunters most that summer, snooping around the old buildings in the town, snooping around the house and outbuildings so my thinking they were snooping around upstairs while I was stuck downstairs is understandable. Until I asked them about looking thru the dresser in the bedroom above mine and they hadn't. matter of fact they'd gone to bed the same time I did and hadn't went in any of the rooms. My dad later on told me that you'd hear noises coming from that room on ocassion. And that the original woman who lived there never really left and now my grandma could possibly be hanging around.
I don't really see the spirits but can sense them. From what me and a friend have figured out it is also something passed down from generation to generation. My grandma was quite spooky in what she'd know, prophesies that sort of thing. I only had the one prophesy and it upset me so much I've just decided that I won't go into a trance like that again. I'd rather not know about someone's death before it happens. :( I did sense something horribly wrong on the way to work one morning and looked over at these hills I don't really go to. Come to find out a friend of mine and his uncle were out 4-wheeling and rolled the truck. His uncle died and he was badly hurt. I do try to listen to those feelings, figure it is my duty. I'm not Catholic but I do have a pretty healthy Catholic guilt thing. :o
I like having a home with a ghost or spirit. I find it comforting as long as they aren't being negative. I did have to bless the rental we were in against a negative spirit. I think the original owners brother was hanging out there (I didn't send him away) but he'd decide to smoke a pipe in my house and I detest smoking so I'd have to give him a stern talking to and he'd stop. I mean come on, he knows I don't like smoking so why stand behind me smoking a pipe?

I don't know a thing about spirit energy or anything else about spirits for that matter but I do l believe in angels.
There may be an energy that stays or something? Especially if an animal gets a sense for it. You can always count on an animal to react true to a situation.
I think that the world flies by so fast for us all that we miss the rythms of things. Remember when we were little and just laid on the grass and watched the clouds go by? I might lay down and see the clouds but I would be thinking of all the things I need to do. The clouds would look like laundry or dust bunnnies.
Maybe things get trapped here with unfinnished business??
This totaly the truth- It was the first Thanksgiving after my Mama died and I was cooking.
My Sister was coming from Dallas and bringing Pop with her.
That morning I got up to start my dinner and I left my bed unmade and thought I would do it later( My mother would have never started cooking with out her bed being made) as I was leaving the room MaMa's picture fell off the wall. No really it did. I picked it up and told her OK OK I'm gonna make my bed. I did and took her picture into kitchen and sat her photo on the counter and began cooking. That photo has never fallen off the wall since and had no reason to fall then.
When I have been low on cash I have found money in my housecoat pocket and once a ten dollar bill was sticking out from between 2 books on the shelf.
I NEVER put money in my housecoat pocket. My Sister and I just say it is Mama watching out for me.
Call the looney bin because I do believe it is my Mom talking to me.
So in conclusion your honor.....I do believe:)

I believe YOU! My mom used to experience the money thing when we were growing up. Actually, here's an interesting recent story about her and money.
My mom and dad knew each other 3 days before they got married. (For my husband and I, it took 2 weeks but you can see it runs in the family!) They loved each other like crazy for 26 years and then my dad passed away suddenly.
My mom has really struggled after his death. She was wounded spiritually and emotionally. My dad was the sole bread winner in our family, so over the years, money got tighter and tighter.
One night, my mom had a dream about dad. In the dream, my dad told her to look through his retirement paperwork from the military. He said there was something in there about his exit physical and this information would help her with her financial problems.
Mom never bothered to look at this paperwork before ~ who would? She had a great sense of urgency to follow my dad's instructions, so she pulled boxes out of storage and started searching.
She found that in the physical, the Marine Corps had uncovered the fact that my dad had heart damage which indicated a previous heart attack. Either Dad didn't read all the medical mumbo jumbo (mom had to look the terminology up on the Internet when she read it) or he didn't want to tell us. Since he had a pre-existing condition of what ultimately killed him, his military benefits should have been more. After a long fight, the Veteran's Administration ended up paying my mom all the back benefits.
I have no other choice than to believe my dad helped my mom when she needed it.

This is probably one of my favorite topics other than gardening and home improvements ;) I am an open minded skeptic but I had an interesting series of events happen to me when I finished Grad school. My first job in my field took me to north FL and I moved in to some really nice luxury apartments in a new town. I had a closet by the front door and everytime I'd get home the closet door would be open about 5-10 inches. Normally I wouldn't have thought anything of it but the this door was one of those "sticky" doors and you had to really get a good grip to turn the handle to open it. Very annoying. Also, if the closet door is open, then I couldn't open the front door all of the way. Even more annoying.
I came up with all of these excuses- the suction from the A/C is popping the door., the cats are opening it, I'm forgetting to close it...blah blah...It was wishful thinking. I ended up calling the manager, (who was new to the complex as well,) and explained that I was having issues with the door and he had somebody come and fix the hinges and replace the knob. Much better! The door stopped sticking but I kept finding it part open.
Almost 2 1/2 months after moving in, I was very sick and I was running a fever that I could not get down. I missed a week of work and stayed in bed for most of that week. I didn't have too many friends, being new to the area, and I lived alone so I was pretty miserable. But I did have my cats :)
The night my fever finally broke, I was woken up by my cat Petey. He was sitting by my face just staring at me, (those of you that have cats, know they do this every now and then). I pet him and tried to make him lay down next to me, but he was being stubborn.
What happened next I can't explain and for all I know I could have been hallucinating, but I know I was awake. I looked over Petey and I saw a woman sitting at the foot of my bed. She wasn't facing me so all I could see was her profile and she was staring at the wall. Her hands were folded in her lap and she had straight red hair. I couldn't make out her facial features -they seemed smudgy and kind of 'not there'. Every hair on my body stood up and I was frozen. Then I remembered thinking- "I must be hallucinating from the fever" and I rolled over and went back to sleep-I was sooo tired from being so sick and not getting sleep the prior nights.
Other things kept happening like the small shadows I kept seeing and finally I called the manager and asked him if the tenants before me had ever complained of anything 'weird'-- anything. He said no. The next day he called me back and told me that he did some research and told that in the 5 years the complex had been open they had 2 people die on the premises. One of the 2 people was a woman and she had died in my apartment. He couldn't or wouldn't tell me how old she was, how she died, or what she looked like. He was new too and maybe he didn't know. but he told me that by law he had to disclose this information to me. "a little too late" is what I was thinking.
7 months after moving in I decided to move out. I never saw the woman again but I kept seeing these little impish shadows and they freaked me out. The last straw was when a friend of mine was over. It was night time and I had seen the shadow streak across the floor. I didn't want to scare him so I didn't say anything, until I heard him say, "What the hell was that?" He had seen it too. My friend was Todd, who is now my husband :)
I was relieved that he saw the same thing I had been seeing and I felt like I wasn't losing my mind. I broke my lease and moved out 2 weeks later. I still don't know what I was experiencing, but it got me interested in the paranormal. I'm still a skeptic, but I'd love to have some answers.

Good Morning Everyone, :)
I really appreciate your stories and experiences. I find all of them so interesting. I believe those that loved us in life, also love us in death, and watch over us. Guardian Angels. :)
At first I was a die hard skeptic, but too many things have happened for me not to believe. I also welcome good spirits in to my home. I have yet to have a bad experience. Only once or twice in other people`s homes, have I felt apprehensive and uneasy about being there.
I have had the smell thing happen here. I kept smelling baby powder of all things. It was so strong that it made me nauseous. I was gagging. No one else in my family could smell it, and looked at me like I had grown three heads. It lasted about a half hour or so. I have no idea what that was all about? I have also smelled flowers when there are none around. No doors or windows open, none in the house. It could be in the winter, and I can smell them. Again, not sure what that is all about? Does anyone here know?
I would really love to learn more about Ghosts, Apparitions, Spirits, Poltergeists, or what ever one chooses to call them. Apparently each one is a different type?
I hope this thread continues. The more I read, the more fascinated I become. Have a good day everyone.
Hugs,
Linda :)

Hello Everyone, :)
I was wondering if any of you have given this any thought, and what your response would be?
We are all born. We live. We die. Why is it that those that pass~on make no contact, and then again, there are those that do? What makes those that make contact, or make their presence known, able to do so, and why? With all of the loved ones we have, be it friends or family, you would think ALL would contact us in some way.
Hugs,
Linda :)

I think it all depends on how they died, how soon and how badly they don't want to leave. My grandma doesn't check in anymore like she used to but I think that she is the angel watching my dd. No reason to think so but I just suspect that she checks in on her on ocassion. I used to feel her there or smell her there but not had that happen for quite awhile, guess she thinks I need to be pushed out the nest as it were. ;)
Other times I think that the spirit just loved where they were so much that they don't want to leave. As long as they aren't being a pest I see no reason why not. And others, well they are mad because a place they loved is being treated badly or their resting place is being abused. I have this intense dislike/fear of walking on someone's grave. To me it just seems disrespectful to be standing on top of someone's resting place. so after I die and you come and stand on my grave you can rest assured I'll be using every ectoplasmic energy I can gather to knock ya on your butt.:o
Anybody ever watch Ghost Hunters? There are only a couple of episodes that stand out in my mind, the live one where they went to the Outlook Hotel in Colorado and the little girl was talking to them (major hair standing up on that one) and the other was a water mill Back East where this little boy kept talking to the guys and Jason invited him to come back to his house and "live" with them. I thougth that was incredibly sweet, just wonder if the kid did it.

Yes, I have to add my thanks to Linda for this thread...verrrry interesting!
My grandfather passed away of a massive coronary in the kitchen where I've lived for 30 years (he died in 1957)...but we have never had any "events".
However...
When my father passed away in 2005, there were a lot of things that happened. My daughter and I were sitting in the dining room of his house - I was sitting in my Dad's desk chair, sitting turned away from the desk (he had his computer in there) and my daughter was sitting facing me. All of a sudden, her face changed and she said, "Mom...LOOK!" I turned around towards the desk to see a wooden barometer that he had hanging from his lamp swinging WILDLY back and forth! Now, there was no construction in the area or anything that would cause that...and it kept swinging for MINUTES!
Also, my father was an electrician by trade. Soon after his passing, the electric went out over his cellar workbench and all the outlets around it! It wasn't just a fuse - I checked that.
There were some more things...but I'll stop here for now...
Thanks to all for their stories - I really enjoyed reading them!

A few years back my brother in law Rick was very sick and was in the hospital. My DH was visiting him at the time. My dog Billy and the kids were with me at home and all of a sudden around 5:15 p.m. Billy the dog gets up and slowly and very cautiously walks to the front door; all the while there was a low growl coming from him. He just stops short of the front door and freezes. He stood like that for a few minutes, then wags his tail and comes back to me with a smile(no joke) on his face. My DH got home around 45 minutes later and said his brother had died at 5:15. Rick was very close to my kids and I swear he stopped by to say his goodbyes. Coincidence, I think not :)

My aunt Rose was in her final moments. She was very scared. All of her sisters where near her. Rose started having a conversation with herself ~ or so my other aunts thought. They could see her calm down and watched her body relax. She said in a loud voice "Thank you for comming, Bobby. You made me feel so much better. I love you." And then she passed away. Bobby was my daddy, (her big brother), who had passed away about 15 years before.
BTW, my dad, my aunt Rose and my uncle Sonny all died on the same day.
OMGosh...I have goose bumps. Wow.

BTW, my dad, my aunt Rose and my uncle Sonny all died on the same day.

Good Evening Everyone, :)
Annie, I truly believe animals are intune to spirits just like we are. We have had several of our dogs through out the years bark and growl in to thin air, then stop and wag their tails. I am sorry to hear that you had lost your brother~in~law. I think he did stop to say his final good bye. (hugs)
Lisa, oh my goodness. Your poor family, to lose three people on the same day. I haven`t had that happen, but my Gramma did the same thing that your aunt had done. She had congestive heart failure, and was in I.C.U. She was moved to her own room a few days later. My aunt, cousin and I, had stayed with her day and night. The hospital furnished us with cots. One evening, my aunt wakes my cousin and I to look at my Gramma. She was sound asleep with her arms up in the air laughing! She was talking like a little girl. We just looked at one another and said nothing. She kept saying ``Flora....Flora.`` Then she would carry a conversation. Flora was my Gramma`s sister that had passed~away several years before.
Gramma also kept saying ``I can see you. You`re both in black trench coats.`` My aunt and I got chills, and my cousing knew nothing about what she was talking about. The two that wore black trench coats in the family were, my Grandpa, and my Uncle George, who had passed away. Gramma didn`t say too much after that. About a month later, she passed away.
I truly believe we are being watched by those that we love. :)
Hugs,
Linda :)

I thought I would tell you about my Uncle George, who I miss dearly.
My Uncle George had passed~away in his home from a heart attack, a week after our third daughter was born. He never got to meet his only grand child, a boy born 6~yrs later.
My cousin was pregnant with twins. She lost one, and carried the other to full~term. When my little cousin was 3, he was upstairs in the bedroom playing. My aunt had heard him laughing and playing. She went upstairs to check on him, and he told her that Papa George was being silly. My aunt was taken back because, there were no pictures or mentioning of my uncle because, they didn`t want to confuse him, and thought they would explain about his Papa when he was older.
My aunt asked him again who he was talking with? He said his Papa George. My aunt asked him what does Papa George look like. He told her he is right there, and he is a big, big man. My uncle was tall and a big guy. My aunt said she got chills. My little cousin also told her that Grampa John was with Papa George. She said she had to leave the room. Grampa John is my Grampa who died when I was 12. He passed away more than 30~yrs prior! There is no way that little boy knew who he was. Again, no pictures were around, nor was he mentioned. My aunt asked what he looked like, and he told her. He has glasses, and he and Papa George have long black coats on.
My aunt called everyone in the family, and had told us what had happened. My little cousin also said he plays with his brother! No one mentioned that he had a brother that died. How could he know all of this? He had spoken with both of his Grampas and his brother a few more times. Then it just stopped. This made a believer out of my whole family. I swear to you, this is true.
Hugs,
Linda :)

Ohhhhhhh, Linda! And you expect me to sleep now?
All kidding aside - I'm quite convinced that people can communicate with those on "the other side". I was in a gallery for John Edward (Psychic - Cross Country) about 2 yrs. ago - unfortunately, no one from my family came through, but it was quite an experience to hear the stories of others.
My guess is that Papa George stopped coming through because he felt at peace; he got to meet his grandson and his grandson got to know who he was. Thanks so much for sharing that!
My friend in PA went to a seance in November and it was quite amazing. We hope to set something up so I can attend, in the coming months. I'll keep you posted.

John Edwards, he's the guy I was trying to remember the name of. My dh and I used to watch him all the time on cable. Pretty amazing things he can get from the others.
They say that children are more able to see the other side, not sure if it just goes away, they grow out of it or they just learn to distrust something that makes no sense. :(

I know this is an old thread, but I hope you don't mind if I post a reply to it since I hadn't joined yet when you all were having this discussion. I've never had any paranormal kinds of experiences, or if I did, I wasn't sensitive enough to sense them. But my nephews' babysitter related something to us once that was pretty interesting. My nephew and his brother are a little less than two years apart. When they were very young and playing together once, the babysitter heard the older one say to the younger one, "Remember when we used to be girls?" They talked about it as if it were just another thing in their past. Makes you wonder, doesn't it?
It does creep me out sometimes when my cat seems to be watching something in the house that I can't see...not just staring in a particular direction, but actually seeming to be tracking something. Hopefully it's something friendly.
If there's anything in my place, I hope it's a guardian angel. Being accident prone, I'm sure I must be keeping it plenty busy. :)

What an odd conversation for those two boys. How old were they at the time?
My cat does that creepy staring/watching thing, too:eek: It really gives me a 'crawly' feeling when I'm in the house alone and he does it.
My cats do that as well, which doesn't bother me so much.. It's when my dogs start barking and growling in the middle of the night for no apparent reason!

Rosemary, I think the boys were probably 2 and 4, maybe 3 and 5, but quite young. I do wonder about past lives.
I used to live with some dogs that did that growling thing at, apparently, nothing, but we had a lot of rats and squirrels around the house, so I always assumed it was one of those. But the house was built in the 20s, so who knows what else might have gone on there? I know the basement totally creeped me out, especially when I had to go down there in the dark to flip the circuit breaker after turning on one too many appliances. My roommate at the time, though, was very sensitive to paranormal type things (she said she'd seen death standing in her living room once when she was sick) and she said she didn't feel like there was anything in the house other than our...count 'em...four dogs and four cats. That was fine with me. I think I'd rather read about a haunted house than live in one.

Do you think that it is in the cat handbook that they do stuff like that just to freak out the humans? :p I don't recall any of my cats doing that but they are sneaky buggers and could have been staring at stuff and I wouldn't notice. As for growling for no good reason, that is a daily thing around my house. I have some fairly young dogs that seem to think they are old bats and a puppy that has come to us in the past few months. The growling level has certainly gotten higher.
No mention of dark man lately so maybe he/she has gotten better at watching over us and not scaring the pants off of my dd. Or she believes me that it is a guardian angel. Long as they don't pull pranks or cause trouble I say stick around if you'd like. :)
