I redid my kitchen vintage/shabby a couple of years back. The entire thing cost the price of paint, and discount, free or repurposed items. I did purchase a 1950 Wedgewood stove, but got that for a bargain also. I also just recently had new countertops installed, but got them at a great price due to the economy right now. Hubs and I thought about just gutting the kitchen and starting from scratch, but we wanted an authentic vintage kitchen, and since our house is about 60 years old, we figured we would work with what we had. The cabinets were in good condition and solid wood, so we just took the doors off the top and bottom cabinets. We left the top cabinets open and I put cafe curtains on the bottom cabinets. I dressed the kitchen out with fun and vintage accessories, made my curtains from burlap feedsacks and vintage hanky's. I am very pleased with it and it is not "cookie cutter", and I did it myself, which was fun. I have lots of items that are very important to me. In the second pic you will see a chalkboard on the wall. That is from my husbands grandfathers ranch in Wyoming. I framed with with an old window. Also my prized carousel horse. It is made from the old "Wonder Horses" that we had as kids years ago. It fit perfectly in the opening between my kitchen and dining area, so I figured what the heck! Here are some pics of my kitchen.

I love your kitchen. It looks like such a warm, happy place to be. Everywhere you look there is something to make you smile. You must get a tremendous sense of satisfaction every time you go in there!
