View Full Version : Help With Dried Hydrangeas?

I cut some hydrangea blossoms off my bush this fall and let them dry naturally in a vase. Now they're dry, but every time I touch them, bits crumble off. I'm trying to arrange them back in the same vase they were in, but now that they're dry and not very malleable, it's hard to work with them. Does anyone know if there's something I can spray on them to prevent them from crumbling? How on earth do they make wreaths with these things?

That IS the trouble with them (crumbly) and I agree - don't know how people makes wreaths with them...unless they do it before they're dried.
My mother used to spray some of her dried flowers with unscented hairspray...don't know if that would be of any help.

try calling a local florist and ask if they can help.

Thanks for the help, ladies. I found a product online called Shatter Proof that is supposed to preserve flowers long-term, but you're supposed to apply it before you dry, so at least for this year, that's not going to do me much good. I'll ask next time I go to the florist.
I'll give the hairspray method a try in the meantime. Can't hurt!
