Okay every year I make a list of things I am going to do in the New Year. Big plans that almost always fall through and never happen. So, thought I'd do it a bit different this year.
My New Years Resolutions for 2010
1. I am not going to try to lose half my body weight - I will just try to get healthy
2. I am not going to get upset the house is a mess if it means I am spending quality time with my kids.
3. I am not going to try to cook good meals every day of the week so I can enjoy some time doing fun things with the family
4. I am not going to try to have a garden worthy of a magazine but one that just brings me happiness, joy and some weeds
5. I am not going to try to do too many things but enjoy the things I do now.
Figure I can accomplish my "not" list.
How about you all?

Know what, I read your list again and I want to print it (if that's ok with you). I want to hang your list somewhere and read it every day.

Sounds okay to me..maybe I should print it too and read it or I'll fall back into being too worried about doing it all this year.

You know I spend a ridculous amount of time worrying about how my house looks to other people , is it clean enough, does the yard look presentable and are the sheds organized and tidy????????Why???
You list is spot on.
Sometimes I will find myself moving the same little table to the left and then over there and then over there and why am I doing that????
I think I need to spiff my home and get out the door and go live. Go for a walk or find something I can volunteer with.
My New Years resolution is to not be so self absorbed, I feel like Mr. McGoo walking in a daze.

I agree Memmy. I try so much to make sure others like what I do- you know strive for some appreciation from others when in reality if they like me they'll like me no matter what.
There is a lady that summed it up for me on a blog..she said we all need to learn to THRIVE. Not just go through life but LIVE it, THRIVE in it.
And that is what I want to do from now on.
What about the rest of y'all- what do you want for the New Year?

Tammy,
Your list is terrific, but please don't think (#3) that you can't have GREAT, healthy food that can be cooked in a jiffy. You sure can!
Years ago, everyone thought a "good meal" meant you had to slave over a roast, and potatoes, etc., etc., for hours on end.
I have absolutely no affiliation with it, but there's a website called healthy-quick-meals.com which will give you a place to start! :)
In fact, maybe it'd be a good idea to start a thread of quick and healthy meals. I'll try to do that tomorrow!

I think your list is great, YH! I really like the idea of thinking in terms of things I will not do. :)

Great list, Tammy! I especially love #2!
For those healthy meals--cook some ahead, or have pita sandwiches--kids love them and they're quick and very healthy.
I'm taking a break from worrying about how my house looks, too. There's just too much that still needs done to it to make it look the way I'd like. So, I'm not meditating on it like I was. I didn't even worry about it over Christmas-a time when I'd like it to look perfect. I mean, it's only a house. There's lots more going on in family and friend's lives that's more important for me to help with!

It seems that we all strive for the same things; how to spend more time with the people we love and less time worrying about perfection. When someone figures out the magic formula, be sure to give it to me.
I desperately miss my "house" magazines. On the other hand, I'm not as bitten with the remodeling/redecorating bug as I was. (No cable t.v. either!)
My mother-in-law gave me a book about old time home remedies. In the 1920's, one woman wrote "don't eat too much ~ save some of it for later". Don't ask me how that can be a revelation to me, but it is. It's kinda like spending money... save some of it for later. This year, I want to embrace the idea of only using what I need to use.

Haaay Leee-sa,
I have been really good at hoarding things for my house and now maybe I should try to focus that on hoarding a little spare cash huuummmm do I have any spare cash? I know my house is full of "stuff". I want to get out into the yard in the Spring and spend more time outside and not so much on the inside. Outside is not really that expensive if you think about it. Seeds, compost,a little homemade trellis and a food garden. I thought about it last year but I didn't have the follow through maybe this year ...maybe:).

See, here's the benefit to a down economy - you really figure out what's important! I'm looking for less stress and a slow down of my crazy life. I need to get back to saying "no" to things - something that is hard to do in my job, but I AM going to make a big effort to do it! :D
