If things work out, and I can find someone to stay with my dogs at night, we are going to drive to Pigeon Forge, TN and go thru the Titanic Museum. I feel really guilty that hubby hasn't gotten to do anything fun the past 1 1/2 years, and I have taken 2 short vacations. I asked him if he would like to go and he said yes. It is an 8 hour drive, so I am thinking of leaving Fri after work and driving half way, spending the night somewhere, and driving the rest of the way on Sat morning. Drive thru the mountains on Sat, museum on Sun, then drive back on Monday morning. Long ways for a 3 day weekend, but he has no vacation time. My neighbor said she would cover the dogs during the day, just need someone here for night and early mornings.

Sure miss the kids not here to back us up. :).

The Titanic Museum, he is a Titanic freak.....watches those movies all the time. The reviews on the museum are mixed, but thought he would enjoy it. Long ways to go for a museum, but thought he might enjoy it, and I love visiting Pigeon Forge. It is our next best vacation spot after Daytona Beach and the ocean.

I don't envy all the driving in such a short time but if you don't mind - go for it, and have a great time! :D

Sounds fun, Marie. I've never been in the Titanic museum--closest one to us is in Branson, but I've heard a lot of people love it. I know it's pretty awesome to drive past~so I'm sure the inside is interesting.

Well, it was a good thought, or so I thought.......he told me last night to forget it. GRR, no wonder I tend to do things on my own or with a sister. Why are some men such downers. Just last week he said he would like to go to the mountains again at Pigeon Forge. I am just going to quit trying, and I am no longer going to feel guilty for what I do. Guess I'll be cleaning out Austin's room and working in the garage. Happy4th. :(

I'm sorry about the change in plans, Marie. Put on some music, get your chores done, and you'll have a good sense of accomplishment! Maybe this trip just wasn't meant to be, for some reason. Keep your sunny side UP! :)

Yep, going to go look for flooring tonight. I definately have to get some work done this weekend, it is only supposed to be 90 degrees. :)

The Titanic museum sounds really cool, I'd like to do that some day. It's funny how such a tragic event has captured the imagination of generations the world over. When my father was a young guy, one of the first jobs he had was for NZ Rail. He told us that there was an old Irish chap who worked with them, apparently served his apprenticeship on Titanic, Olympic and the Britannic when they were being built in Belfast. Cool, enjoy that museum.

Too bad it did not work out Marie. Hopefully you can go another time and maybe spend a bit longer. Have fun picking out your flooring. We are all excited that starting Wednesday we will be cooling down under 100:eek: It has been hot, hot, hot. Well over a 100 every day. I have been off work for a week with strep throat and am finally feeling human again, but have still been stuck inside due to the heat. But today hubs and I are going to go yard saling in about an hour, than breakfast and off to Lowes. Hubs has to work the graveyard shift tonight, but will be home to enjoy the 4th (after a nap of course). We are going to barbecue tri tip and corn on the cob. And we have fresh cucumbers and tomatoes from our garden. Should be a nice quiet relaxing 4th. Hopefully:D

To whoever stated "Maybe there is a reason it didn't work out" (meaning we didn't take the trip)..... Well, here goes.....

Got a text from Austin this morning, he said he is broke, owes 2 months rent, and can he borrow $500 dollars. I was supposed to move him back on July 30, but guess what.....his butt is coming back next weekend.

I have not talked to him yet, as he worked 2nd shift and isn't up yet.....I will be telling him that I am moving him back next Saturday. He can come back here and find a job as an STNA until college starts 3rd week of August. There is no ifs, ands or buts in this. It is on my terms if I am bailing him out. He has been in Columbus for almost 2 years, has spent way way too much money, basically everything he has earned, and if he wants my help, it is on my terms only and my way. He has proven to me that he is not mature enough to work/budget money/pay his bills/and properly manage a debit card.

So, I guess this may have been the reason we didn't go to Pigeon Forge, as they say, everything happens for a reason. Ugg.

As far as his bedroom floor....guess I won't be doing it after all, at least not now. I will shampoo it and throw an area rug over the ugly carpet.

I am not a stupid mom, I knew sooner or later it was all going to catch up with him. Guess now I have the upper hand in this, my way or no way. He has screwed up with his money. GRR. :(

I would like to see him talk me out of this one. It won't happen. And the debit care has got to go for awhile too. :)

Oh boy. I'm sorry to hear about Austin's money troubles. We don't do a good enough job in schools teaching kids about how to manage money. Good for you for putting the brakes on his spending habits and bringing him home. Maybe you can make him help you do the floor in his room in exchange for bailing him out...I think he owes you some labor for your time and trouble.

That would be me...:o

I've seen it often enough, in my own life as well as others' lives, not to "push" things. Sometimes the Universe (or whatever) is trying to gently guide us in a direction and it's often wise to listen.

However...
The third week of August will be here before you know it. Then do you have to find a new place for him to live out there, and he will have to find another job when he goes back and start this all over again??

No, he is not moving back there. He has been living in Columbus for almost 2 years. He is starting the nursing program Aug 22 here at our local community college, so will move back for 2 years and then will be done. He will have to find a job when he moves back home.

It sounds like a good plan. Good luck to all!
