Hi! My name is Carrie. I've been reading and enjoying your posts and thought maybe I should come out of hiding.
I am a new home owner. I don't have a full fledged cottage, more a cottage style modular house. It feels like a cottage in everyway though. kind of small, light and airy, butter yellow house with a peaked forest green shingle roof, matching shutters. It kind of looks like a Katrina cottage.
I would like to wish you all a happy new year? Did any of you watch the ball drop this morning? I tried, but I fell asleep. :o

Carrie,
Your house looks adorable. I'd love to see more pictures and to know more about how the modular design works. I like the look of the Katrina cottages and have been wondering if there were a modular design similar to them. My niece had a modular house built in a log cabin style and is very happy with it. Did the modular style present any design problems? How much were you able to tweak the layout or details?
Great picture, and congratulations on owning a new home. Welcome to the land of non-lurkers. :)

Hi Carrie - Glad you de-lurked! Your cottage is so cute - love the Christmas lights. We did stay up to watch the ball drop, but we didn't go out or anything special.

I really didn't get a lot of input on it's design, it was already built. Something fell through and the person that was going to buy it didn't. That worked to my advantage because it was sold to me for 20,000 less than it's original price. I did get to pick light fixtures, ceiling fans, in the house and on the front porch. I got to pick appliances, so I made sure they were energy efficient. The house was made to be energy effiecient and water efficient. That was pretty important to me to start off that way. I got to pick out colors in the kitchen and living room as well. I have a red kitchen and red and cream living room/ The design issues would be lack of storage. I miss having a linen closet and a coat closet in the living room.
I wish I had waited to buy a house a few years later, the modular houses really look much more like regular houses that it would be hard to tell.

Thank you. Be warned I am not a great photographer and definately not great at decorating.
I need to redo my pictures. Photobucket lost most of them when I downloaded. Sorry!

It worked fine, Carrie. Thanks for all the pictures. I see you have something I long for..a kitchen window over the sink! What do you look out on? You do sort of have to be creative about storage in a small place, don't you? Does your home have a garage or any kind of storage building? Or an attic?

I have a teeny outbuilding. I need a bigger outbuilding. That's another update I need to do.
What I see out the window is the neighbors house and whatever I plant outside. This is about as close as I can get to showing you.

This what I see from the big glass front door in the front of the kitchen though:

Carrie,
A bird and sunflowers...what a sweet view out your kitchen window. And the view out your big window is fantastic!

I am glad you dropped in to say, "Hello." Congratulations on your new home! Lack of storage space is a hot-topic around here. Thanks for posting the pics. I like the way you incorporated red in your kitchen.
Happy New Year!

We look out onto our neighbor's houses too Carrie. Last year we planted some wax myrtle shrubs that are supposed to get huge and be a good screen, but we got a batch of dud plants. Luckily the nursery reimbursed us, and we are going to try again this year with yellow anise shrubs.
