Does anyone have any inspiration photos of kitchens that have only open upper shelving? I'm thinking about pulling our upper cabinets out and replacing them with open shelving. I think we could actually have more room to store things b/c our current cabinets are small and awkward. The stainless steel open shelving has been a trial run, and so far the things on those shelves don't get dusty and gross with dog hair. We would keep the upper cabinets in the attic so that we could reinstall them before selling the house if necessary.

Heres a few I have, some are regular kitchen cabs with the doors removed others are floating type shelves.

Did you come up with anything CC regarding your open shelves?

My open shelving is set up the same way as vintagegirl's. I just took the doors off the current cupboards and called it good. Of course I painted them so they looked like built-ins but other than that they came out quite nicely. Somebody else mentioned that since the doors get left opened anyhow you might as well take the doors off, that is why I did that in my house. :p And then I did install a shelf over the sink and on the wall perpendicular to that sink wall and it came out really charming and I can actually show off some of my more vintage stuff.

Great photos and great jobs! My kitchen is 38 sq ft and I will be putting up shelving when I start the re-do. I never understood putting up cabinets and leaving a few feet at the top, esp in small kitchens. Early 1900's arts & craft bungalow kitchens had the cabinets going all the way to the ceiling.
