If any of you are in Irene's path, I hope you had time to batten down the hatches and that the storm causes no damage. I'll be thinking of you.

While it won't affect us, I am watching it closely. I do have friends in Newport, VA.
Stay safe everyone.

Yes, indeedy, and thank you all for your thoughts and prayers! I live about 10 miles from NYC, as the crow flies, so anything you see about the weather in NYC will be pretty much what I'm experiencing. I've taken all the precautions...have food that doesn't need cooking, water, a battery flashlight, an emergency (crank) radio/light, cell phone charged (and can always charge in the car), car's tank filled, secured outdoor items, etc., etc. It's a very tense situation to wait like this; the anticipation is nerve-wracking! I will certainly keep in touch when I can, my friends! :)

I'm back, everyone, and thanks for your good wishes!
I've never heard or seen so much rain in my life - actually, the wind wasn't so bad. I wound up with about 3" of water in the cellar and while trying to deal with that, the power went off yesterday afternoon around 2 P.M.
It was an early bedtime (boy, are we spoiled, with all our electrical/electronic devices!) and I woke up at about 5 this morning. Miraculously (it seemed), at 5:39, everything came back on...it felt like Christmas morning! :D
Parts of upstate New York really got hit bad; there are some gorgeous old homes that are now sitting in the middle of what look like lakes. Really sad...:(
And yet, the bottom line is that so long as the owners are alive, there is hope.
I missed you all and hope you're well.

I'm glad you successfully weathered the storm. Be careful cleaning up that storm water in the cellar! It's good to have you back.

How's this? :D
All kidding aside, my cousin and his wife asked me to go to dinner last night, and on our way to the restaurant I was shocked to see whole sections of my area still without power. (I hadn't been out at night since the storm.) My cousin said he had heard that some people were told that "hopefully" they'll have power restored this Sunday (it's Tuesday, as I'm writing this)! I feel very sorry for those affected and very thankful that I didn't even have to go a full 24 hours without a power outage. Once again...:D
