Why is it that men (well at least mine) can never do things until I go into a hissy, have a hellacious fit, almost to the point of taking the iron skillet to his head.

In our bedroom, we have a big picture window (which is a stupid place for a picture window). About 11 years ago, we had new windows put in. The guy did a horrible job, and it leaked, and the 9 inch by 8 ft section of drywall under the window got wet. Well, we thought we had the problem fixed and I have been on Dave for over 3 years to replace the section of drywall and fix it. Well, finally yesterday, after I had one of my redheaded temper fits, he finally got off his touche and started to work on it. We got the trim and drywall removed. There is still a problem with it leaking, only we are not sure how or why. I called my brother in law who lives 1 hour away, and asked him if he could come up and take a look at it. He is a carpenter/builder and can do about anything when he sets his mind to it. He is coming this weekend to take a look. He said we may just be better off removing the window and reinstalling it. I am hoping it can be fixed with just caulk as I do not have money to spend on reinstalling a window right now with Dave out of work.

I will post a picture later of the mess. I am confident that we can put up the drywall, as there isn't much only a 9" x 8ft section, tape and mudd it.

My biggest question here is: Why is it that men can't get off their duff and do things without a woman having to go into a hormonal fit to get something done? Maybe it is just the male in my house, IDK, but it drives me nuts.

Sorry Sister, dunno what to say... other than jump in there and do it yourself - don't say you can't because you can. Hugs!

Oh Marie, sorry for your woes, but I have the same husband. He's just not handy and when he has tried, bless him, its always a call for someone to bail us out. So I've learned to do things myself or get some one to do the job.

With all the rain we had yesterday, there was a huge puddle of water below the kitchen window. DH stepped right into it and he says theres water all over the floor. No running to get towels or looking what the cause of it was, nope that was me. Sigh....so I totally understand ya sista! Good luck.

I am very lucky as my hubs is a DIY go-getter, but if it something that he feels is frivolous, he balks. In other words, design-related. I don't throw fits, I just do it myself or go one better. I don't stock the fridge or make good dinners. I buy the crappy lunch meat (meat by-product), and get out the hamburger helper for dinner. When he pisses, I tell him I have no time to shop or cook because I am busy completing my projects;) Works everytime:D

I hear you, Marie! I asked BPG to fix the floor in the living room this past weekend. Since it was a long weekend, I thought he'd do it on Saturday and still have a "weekend". Wrong! Because he really didn't want to do it, it took him all three days to complete the task and it looks worse now than it did before he started.

Marie the answer is simple - it's a "male" thing.

Sending you a big ((((((((((HUG)))))))))) :)

I think un-handy husbands (men in general) avoid these things because it makes them feel less manly! In our house, I do it or hire someone. EVERYTHING my hubs has tried to fix has then resulted in getting a professional to fix. One of them told me several years ago, that it would have been cheaper if I had just called him in the first place. Lesson learned!

I have to believe that in my dh case he just has never had to fix anything and just figures if he ignores me it will go away. He unfortunately is ignorant in my stubborn ways, I will win this battle so he should really just go with it.

I did bring in a handy man a few years ago to do something in my bathroom. Got home and he did it before the guy got there, I had to tell him that I didn't need him after all. I'm going to keep that ace up my sleeve for future use. ;):p

I have to tell you. We did the hose test the other day.....Dave sprayed the window with the hose, and then we were able to see where water was coming in under the window. We had about 5 streams in different spots on the 6 ft window. My brother in law came on Sunday to check things out. We recaulked everything really well, and in 2 days we are going to try the hose again to see if all the leaks are taken care of. Hopefully, the leaks are gone now, then we can replace the drywall.

My brother in law said we need another ridge vent on our roof in the area of our bedroom. Not sure when that will get done. No $$$$ for much right now.
